Although Xena was bested by Hercules once before, I believe that Xena has continued to train and hone her abilities. We know from previous battles that Xena can (not only hold her own, but) fight Gods to the death. She killed most of the Olympians and could take Ares and Athena (both gods of war). The winner is Xena.

I think that if they fought pre-good Xena, then Xena would totally kick his butt... probably even kill him. If they fought when Xena was good, she would still win, but would probably only incapacitate him. let's face it, Herc may be a demi-god, but Xena's got the moves, the passion, and the desire to win. Plus, the writers were playing with the idea that Ares was Xena's father, which would make her a demi-god too. Then there'd be absolutely NO supporting argument for Herc... sorry Herc fans smile

The only reason Hercules won against Xena in the Gauntlet was because his cousin jumped in. In my opinion, that makes it a not fair fight. Pit them against each other one-on-one, say, in a gladiator setting, Xena would have won hands down.
