Alright everyone, so here's the deal. Lonely Echo here has been living deep under water for all of her life. She has taught herself to hunt, to survive. She speaks rarely, remembering only the words of her naming dream and a spare few from the time in her mother's belly. She has had no contact with sentient beings. And suddenly, a storm tore a huge, gaping hole into her secluded world and real life is about to tear apart the reality she has known.

Echo is going to come face to face with another kin for the very first time.

This is a big deal and will shape her to be the amazing kin she will eventually be and I want one of your kin to be the one to make her take that first step! So, post up anyone you think will fit this role as well as any plot ideas for it you may have! When I've finished typing up her entrance solo and naming dream, I will begin her first roleplay with you. This is how it will start.

Lonely Echo

On a dark and stormy night, a tired mother thanks the Swamp and bares her children in light of the moon on a dark, slick shore that cuts through the swamp like a claw. She left her eggs, for a moment or forever, no one knows, but it was the MotherFather's mind that she may never see those eggs again. Fast currents, tipped with white foam tugged at the water's edge as the river swelled with the weight of the rain that fell, tearing and stealing anything it could grasp and dragging it downstream. These eggs were only a few of the victims claimed that night.

But not all was lost. One egg in particular somehow, magically some would say, guided by the SwampMother would others, was swept by fast currents. Past sharp rocks and fallen trees, and the hungry mouths of the riverborn, the egg was carried until, at last, the river emptied into the deepest lake in Matope. The tide and the currents of the lake carried her gently now, sweeping her into the entrance of an underwater cave long since abandoned and depositing her small egg onto the smooth rocky shore of an air pocket deep inside.

It was there, on that calm, stony shore that her egg did split, spilling her into the world and awakening her from her dream or shifting waves and raging winds. Her tiny jaws gaped, she squeaked and cried for her mother, only to hear her sounds reverberate back to her.

A sad, lonely echo...

She did not live, only survived, not by what her parents taught her, no, but by basic instinct. Before her eyes were open, she sought out the tough, slinging water weeds that blanketed the rocks when she hungered, and licked at the cave walls when she thirst. When the swamp granted her sight, her home was almost as dark as before her eyes opened. The cave was large, with many crannies and nooks. The rock was dark and wet, lined with lichen and crawling with lizards and other critters. From over head, perhaps five tail lengths, sunlight shimmered down in shafts from the cracks that lead to the outside. She remembered words from her dreams and spoke them to the cave when the light faded, learning their taste, their texture, how they swamp around her fangs.

When she grew stronger, the little filly, if one could even call her that, began inspecting the waters that surrounded her embankment. Tentatively dipping a single hoof in and jumping back, eyeing the ripples in wonder and awe. During her watchings of the crystal clear waters, she glimpsed many little fishes, and some big ones too, many different shiny things, and rocks that mimicked the ones that hung from the ceiling. After much mental coaxing, and the tempting idea of chasing the fish, Echo finally let herself slip into the shallows and into a entirely different world. She was at home in the water, she loved everything about it, the way it flowed over her scales and fur, the clean taste in her mouth, and how fast she could move! Before long, she wasn't just chasing fish, but catching them and little Echo grew from puddle monster for terror of the deep. She collected the treasures she found, storing them in her little nooks.

Echo loved her home. She was content, ever thrilled by her findings in the water, and the satisfying burn in her tail and stomach when she went to sleep after a day of swimming. But nothing could prepare her for the night that the storm from her naming dream came back to haunt her.

Winds whistled and howled from the cracks in the rocks, water leaked inside in rivulets, pouring from the ceiling. Bright, frightening lights flashed through the holes and deafening rumbles shook her cave. At one point during the night, a terrifying CRACK shattered the air and something deep in the cave crumbled and shook. Echo took to the waters and found something that would change her life forever. A huge tree had uprooted from the storm, leaving a large, gaping hole. Rocks tumbled and fell, dust settled, and from between the cracks of a pile of debris, two eyes stared back at her.

Whippie
I was considering and I think that the first kin she should meet should be a female kimeti. Although they would still differ greatly in looks, obviously, that would be the closest. She would probably scared poo-less of some of the other breeds/gender. And then I thought that the first kin she met, she would bond with, another obviously. I just feel that a female would make her less hesitant. In a way, that would make her more emotionally vulnerable. Therefore, she might fall in loves with a female. Make sense?

Whippie has a good point here. While Echo may not be a lesbian, I definitely could see her opening up to a female kimeti must, much easier than any other breed or gender.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.My least judge-y kin, Last Night would be gentle and accepting, but she's also strong. She doesn't need to speak much and she tends to understand what others mean beyond what exactly they are saying. Depending on what you want, Last Night would be okay enter what remains of her cave or lead her out and away, or both. Last Night could also hunt land animals and offer Lonely Echo her first non-fish meal. She'd also have the patience to teach Lonely Echo words, speech, and such. As Last Night is a wanderer, if Lonely Echo was inclined to staying near her cave, Last Night would eventually leave, though she'd be willing to stay for quite a while, but she would return as it is natural for her to do so, or Lonely Echo could wander with Last Night for a time and maybe meet some kin that Last Night consider friends (Nose-in-the-Air, Wards the Way, and Leech).

Last Night will be Echo's first encounter. But don't worry! She has a whole life to lead and I want to roleplay her as often as I can!

I will contact you all when ready for this~

I feel like a strong personality is better for Lonely Echo to meet the for the first time, but if you'd rather someone even more gentle than Last Night is capable, then Ember could work. She's less able than Last Night to separate her associations from reality, so she'd be making weird leaps and assumptions about what Lonely Echo may or may not need while Last Night would silence those thoughts and no make any judgement calls. Ember would probably keep a slight distance at first, but her eaglehound, Walking on Fire, could hunt for Lonely Echo and Ember could tell Lonely Echo stories from her dreams, which might help Lonely Echo learn more speech. Even after parting ways, unlike Last Night, Ember would deliberately seek out Lonely Echo every once in a while whereas Last Night would wander upon Lonely Echo when it happens on its own or when Last Night gets the feeling that it might be appropriate to find Lonely Echo.

Quote:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. I feel like Through Your Eyes would be a better choice for a later RP rather than this one, but I want to offer since I think it would be interesting for them to meet. Through Your Eyes is snarky and teasing, but she would be fascinated by Lonely Echo. Through Your Eyes sees herself as a wolf (not literally, but in a way) and would really push Lonely Echo to leave her comfort zone. She'd also try to get Lonely Echo to teach her how to fish. She'd also teach Lonely Echo how to hunt. But eventually she would move on, she would not seek out Lonely Echo ever, though they may bump into each other occasionally.

So for maintaining relationships, Ember is the most pro-active and would try to find Lonely Echo after their go their separate ways, Last Night does as she does and she'll occasionally initiate, but she tends to go with the flow, and Through Your Eyes is completely solitary and enjoys company when it's there, but would never actually seek out Lonely Echo.

I know you said girls might work better, I still want to suggest Beneath the Surface. You see, he had pretty much never encountered another kin before meeting Fire in the Night. I had basically planned for him to have no interaction with other kin at all. So, it might be interesting to show two quiet, unsure kin meeting another kin for either the first, or basically the first time. Beneath the Surface is very demure, he's not very out there, and so wouldn't be to much for Lonely Echo to handle. Since he wouldn't have interacted with anyone at this point either, he'd be equally unsure, just a bit more developed in the language department. I imagine how skittish both kin would feel, might be fun. He mostly just wandered around in the desolate parts of the swamp for a long time (thus why he never meet anyone) so the fact he was near her cave, alone, makes sense. He could easily have simply chosen this place to hide from the storm. His equal lack of interaction might make it easier for her to handle, since he wouldn't be very pushy or anything.

While the twins are usually never alone, we could just use Watery Depths, the girl, and leave out Murky Shallows, the boy. Maybe the storm separated them? Murky Shallows is very quiet and calm. He's not to intrusive. He is rather easy to be around, as he doesn't ever give off the feeling of not wanting you there. Watery Depths is a bit snarky, and standoffish. She doesn't really like spending time with most people, other then her brother. Now, due to how child-like Echo is, this might not be a problem as she is much more open and kind to children. Her brother does often get her to interact with others, but even if he wasn't here, her and Echo might interact well. A teacher of kinds.

I have another female kin... but I'm not suggesting her because she likes tormenting people. It amuses her. She's not cruel or abusive or anything, she just likes saying or doing things to unnerve people. Unless you would like to know more about her, because you like that idea.

Out of the three, Last Night seems to be most like what I think I'm looking for as Echo's first encounter, or second, should the first be someone scary. Someone calm to sooth her and ease her into life after it, literally, came crashing down around her. I'd like to delve more into this, if we could.

I also agree with Through Your Eyes as a later roleplay. I think it would be good for her to meet someone that would really try and push her. It'd be really good for her character.

SerinaNight
Out of the ones you've posted, I think Beneath The Surface would be an interesting choice for her to meet, though not as a first, I don't think. Perhaps they could meet later, while he's still incredibly introverted and she could compare the two life styles? Or maybe even help him, if that develops in her character?

Thank you both for contributing! I wasn't expecting replies so soon. x3

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Does not Discriminate is the kind to see everyone as an equal. He treats everyone the same and doesn't judge based on looks alone. I think he would be great in bringing out her personality, because his ability to see everyone the same is his biggest trait with all other traits at the same level. He would also be happy to teach her things like hunting and speaking, provided he could see that she wanted to learn. it's possible that he may best suit Echo's second or third RP.

Snow on the Mountain is a very playful young girl and likes making friends and playing with her big family. She would pretty much just think of Echo as a new adoptive sister. Whatever Echo may need, emotionally, mentally, or physically, Snow would help just so that they could have fun. Snow would be good for helping Echo to get comfortable with the above ground Swampland.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.I also have Feral Storm here. He isn't really great with others, only because he too grew up alone. But his character is already growing quickly, so by the time you pick someone, he will most likely be slightly more comfortable around others.

Storm and Echo could teach each other their respective skills in hunting and fishing, and Storm would want to keep her safe from the predators of the Swamp until she learned enough to not need a permanent bodyguard. This would also help him grow too, as it would fuel the spark of certain plot based ideas he shall be having.

First or second meeting would be fantastic! Last Night would have the same reaction in either situation, so let me know which you'd prefer~

Last Night would make sure that Lonely Echo was okay first before trying to initiate any real conversation or seeing if she'd like to leave the cave. Is there anything specific you'd like to see happen/what do you want the end goal to this rp would be?

Well, I was thinking about it when you first posted, so you know. xd

Well, he'll still be really introverted even after joining the herd, so I'd love an RP with Echo, for either of those reasons. He could use some help, and he's a good example of meek kin. I guess just let me know when you want to do that, and we can. Do you wanna plot things out, or wait till you get into her first RP?

Peep is about as non-threatening as you can get. She's soft, gentle and motherly. She'd be instantly welcoming to Echo and when she realized that the other had never experienced life beyond her little cave, would become her enthusiastic little carer.

And perhaps a meeting with Minnow in the future! I imagine Echo would eventually head down to the sea? Since Minnow is a Tidewalker and devoid of any of her mother's uh... prejudices, she'd be keen to welcome and get to know Echo. Friends, perhaps?

This, YES. I actually would love it if Echo could eventually become a Tidewalker her self. I definitly want to develop her more, however, but I will absolutely keep this in mind.

I've decided that I'd really like Last Night to be her first encounter.
My plans for her are this:
At first, she's terrified to leave her home, because it is the only thing she has.
Perhaps Last Night can give her some reason to move on?
Or merely coax her out slowly, so that she can embrace her new world instead of fear it.
What are your thoughts? Any input?

How much speech do you want Lonely Echo to understand? Last Night is good at interpreting non-speech, but how much communication do you think they'll be able to have. I've always kind of assumed that while speech is quite possibly learned, understanding may be more innate because of names and such.

I think Last Night would do a combination of both, not because she thinks that Lonely Echo necessarily needs or should leave her home, but because she likes (for lack of a better word) to expand how other kin see the world around them. So maybe Last Night could realize the situation that Lonely Echo grew up in and, if she sees that Lonely Echo is willing to listen/observe, I imagine Last Night would bring her things like flowers, her first non-fish meal, and different living animals to expand her view of the world. I also got this image of Last Night showing Lonely Echo the constellations by pointing Lonely Echo towards different stars and then drawing them on the ground. I think before Lonely Echo is ready to leave, Last Night would at least help to make her collapsed home inhabitable for the time being.

But ultimately, this is your plot, so whatever you'd like would be fantastic!

All of that sounds wonderful! Ooh, I'm so excited!! x3
As for speech, she'll know some from her naming dream, which I'm thinking will be a story her mother told while she and her siblings were still in their sacks. If you speak slowly and try and work with her, I think she'd understand the basics, I think. She may not speak much now, but she loves to listen and I think she'll be a fast learner. Expect a lot of whys.
xD
