Hi there everyone of FEF! Boy oh boy has it been a really long time since I made a thread. I've been thinking about this topic for awhile now and thought it would alright to post about it, since I'm not really sure if there was a previous thread for it or anything?

In any case, I had heard about this title called Tear Ring Saga from a friend of mine that he discovered through the mighty powers of the internet. xD Back then I had only knew very few fire emblem titles on the GBA, or Path of Radiance on the Gamecube. It was WAY before I knew about any of the previous games before FE7. So I wasn't really aware of another series similar to it. I mean, the only other strategy RPG game I played at that point was shining force but then again that's a different game altogether.(Though, I've gone on and on about how much I enjoyed those games. lol )

From my understanding it seemed to be the first game for the Playstation 1 that Shouzou Kaga supposely was involved with after he left Intelligent Systems. I believe it some years after Thracia 776 was made. And there's this whole story about how he somehow ended up getting into a lawsuit or something like that much later.( I'm not really sure too much on the details) It never did end up getting a U.S release or anything... There's also a sequel to Tear Ring Saga called Berwick Saga and that didn't get released either. Although, there is actually an English patch out there for the first game. I'm not sure if there's one for the sequel.. A PS2 emulator would require a really good computer to run it and so forth.

So anyways, I was actually wondering if anyone around here ever heard of or played Tear Ring Saga just out of curiosity? Or might be thinking of trying out the game at some point? As for me, I've managed to try out a little of the PS1 game and to be honest I found some of it to be very interesting. There's also some really nice soundtracks here and there. It really reminds me of how FE Gaiden was on the NES but so much different in a way. And ya know, I've been thinking lately about how Awakening and Sacred stones more or so has the map exploration element from FE gaiden. So I'm wondering what kind of style everyone here prefers? Like how most of the games were by chapter by chapter? Or more exploration on the maps but moving on through each chapter?

Can't say I've heard of that. I'm so going to look into it though. -dives into the internet-

I've played it before, but I haven't finished it yet, mind you. Loading my save, I got to the first Reunion chapter between the two lords, which lets you swap party members and items between the two, but only on those chapters. I actually have an authentic copy of it which I found in a Japanese import store in Vancouver for $5. In many ways it reminded me of FE5 meets FE2. By this, I mean it has the free map exploration and paralell lord system that FE2 has, but at the same time, it takes FE5's lord, calls him Runan, gives him a headband, throws FE3's Katua in the mixture, keeps the skill book concept and calls it a day. It also has FE4's level carry over system, which a person can obtain level 40, but only if promoted. If you're familiar with Hoshigami, you shouldn't be too surprised that optional levels exist on the map for easy EXP exploitation. Lastly, it has FE13's concept of learning skills by level and class, albeit in a much more precarious, free style that is.

For Berwick Saga, while I have never played it, I do know a bit about it, the hexagonal tiles look like a fascinating idea, but at the same time, might cause headache in hard chapters I imagine. IIRC, Ickhoa from SF is starting to translate the script as well as the menu, but I haven't been following, so I don't know how far his project is at.
