Why do we even have MP taxes?

It is a gold sink. Gold sinks are used in order to combat inflation. If people have lots of gold, then they can afford to spend a lot on - say - a monthly collectable. That means the MP gold price of an MC will go up. If people have less gold, then they will be less willing to spend high prices on an MC.
