Mo's paws pounded on the forest floor. Leaves and various other foliage flitting and fluttered in his wake as he sped back towards home. His eyes remaining forward as the familiar 'scents' of home began to waft to his nares.

Previously, any thought of being a shapeshifter and matching characteristics of a canine would have made Mo shake his head and call you silly for making up stories. Though now, it had been less than 24 hours and he was already fitting in to his new form like a well worn and loved glove! So well, in fact, that he completely forgot that he was still a dog at all! Having been running like this straight to the lake and back, he'd gotten used to it.

It was well beyond dark at this point as he began blazing across the bridge towards the tree. It wasn't until the tree itself began to loom over him did he slow down, catching his breath with a heavy pant, tongue lolling out the side of his gaping jaws as he slowed to a walk to enter and make his way towards Rais' study. If he was lucky, Rais would still be awake. If he was asleep, Mo could wait until morning, he supposed...

Oh man... Sleep. Mo was ready to sleep through three sunrises at this point. He'd ran way too far in just a day alone. And he had taken off before sunrise, too! So... yeah, to say he was tired was an understatement. But he had a task to fulfill. Duties came before personal gain, after all.

His mind had wandered off into other things as he made his way through the tree. Most - if not everyone - had retired to their beds for the night. And - being in autopilot mode, he failed to realize that he nosed Rais' study door open instead of using his hands. He did what came naturally, of course.

Still panting (though less than as much as he was when he entered the tree) he entered Rais' study. Claws clicking on the wooden flooring as his canine eyes looked about, hoping to find Rais within the room.

The hour was getting late, especially for one so used to rising early in the morning, but Rais had reason to still be awake. His wife had been feeling ill again, so he'd taken her some of the medicine that the Seer had brewed up for her to ease her stomach troubles. He'd also taken a walk down to the fountain and back to leave a cup of fresh water by her bedside before leaving her to rest. In truth, he had suspicion of what her illness as of late could truly be, but he was unwilling to say anything for sure yet. Best not to upset the spirits...but he could be hopeful.

Despite the late hour, he had a subtle smile on his face as he returned to his study. Just a little time to wind down, then he'd join his wife in slumber. He'd no sooner settled in when his door was pushed open again. Curious, as he wasn't normally still working at this hour, but perhaps someone had seen the lantern light shining beneath the door and had needed to speak to him about something that couldn't wait until morning. He was more than a little puzzled not to see the face of one of his people emerge from the opening door, but instead had to look down at the canine creature padding across his floor. Alright, this was something new. No hostility present, if anything, a curious creature from the way it looked about the room. Tilting his head slightly, he waited for a moment before quipping, "...err...hello?"

He felt a bit silly.

Mo's ears flipped forward to attention at the sound of movement. He blinked and turned his focus towards the peering head over Rais' desk. A familiar face! A friendly face! A Rais face!

His tail began to wag. As Rais spoke, Mo opened his mouth to say, "Hello, Brother! Good to see you still awake! I come bearing good news!"

But what came out of his furry little lips instead was, "Bark! Bark bark Woof! Yip Woof yap!"

His Mellon then made an appearance, zipping into view and hovering around Mo's head.

It was looking at Mo, shaking his head and giggling like crazy. Mo's head tilted to it with silent inquiry. To which Rais heard the smaller of the pair barking back and laughing periodically.

Mo's eyes narrowed and he growled, swatting at the Mellon with his paw. He then shut his eyes tight. After a brief moment, his form changed and Mo now stood in the room. He stumbled a bit and shook his head. Having been on all fours for a vast majority of the day, he was a bit uneasy on his hooves.

Once he gathered himself, however, he grinned.

"What I said was... Hello, Brother! Good to see you still awake! I come bearing good news!" He was still a bit winded from all the running, now legitimately panting as if he had just jogged up a long flight of stairs within Laisidhiel. Nothing too taxing.

Not exactly what he'd been expecting. Though, he supposed that the fur color and patterning had been somewhat familiar, the true sign that all was not as it seemed had been the appearance of the barking, energetic Mellon zipping around the canine's head.

He really shouldn't have been too surprised when the canine shifted into the form of his second-in-command before him. Terrakin shifters weren't that uncommon, and the Circle shared a shift all their own, which is why the extent of Rais' reaction at first was to raise an eyebrow and ask, "Well...this is new. Does this good news have anything to do with your new trick, Brother? Or perhaps a run-in with strange arrows again?"

After a moment, the hint of amusement started to slip into his expression, much as he tried to keep it hidden. He leaned back, arms crossed over his chest, but looking at ease, if a little tired. That could be attributed to the late hour easily. There seemed to be quite a bit of canine activity around the Tree as of late. First, it was the wolf that had been seen at Faroth's side whenever he visited the Tree, ever since its first appearance at the Calling a couple of years ago. Then, when he'd had a son, while it'd been somewhat surprising at first, the two children with wolf-like features had been accepted the same as any previous Faun children within the Tree. The howling aside.

And now, his Adviser shows up in the middle of the night as a spotted dog. How lovely. He wondered if there'd be a pack running through the Tree eventually at this rate.

"Ha. Very funny..." he sneered, but quickly chuckled back in his response. "Actually, no. I bring news from the lake." he ended on a slightly excited note. He was really tired after all.

He began fishing in his side pouch for the shell. "This is for the Earthmother. From the Queen herself." he stated, stepping closer to offer the shell and it's message.

"I was lucky to run into the Captain upon getting there," he continued, finally managing to catch his breath completely by this point. "They're wary and cautious about our meeting, but the Captain did assure me that the Queen and her court agreed to meet with us. He said they'd send word on when they'd arrive but we won't be waiting too long as to finding out when."

Rais accepted the shell, noting what a curious way it was to send a message...though, in retrospect, when one lived underwater, perhaps it made more sense than he'd first thought. His eyes briefly scanned the message, reminded that his mother had already been in contact with the Naiad Queen in the past. "Of course," he nodded, raising his eyes back to his second and setting the shell beside him on the table. "I'll pass it along to her in the morning, thank you."

He stood and crossed towards Mo, clapping him on the shoulder with a smile. "This is good news! You have done excellently, Brother." Already, the Chieftain's mind was turning with the preparations to be made for the meeting. "Their caution is understandable, especially with troubling events as of late. We shall have to make efforts to ease their concerns, at least as far as our own intentions. They'll be under our protection while on land, of course, as I'm sure much of the issue is in leaving their lake to meet with us," he mused, beginning to pace, rubbing his chin. What other accommodations needed to be made? There would be water nearby; and as he understood it, the Naiad were supposed to be able to travel on the land, at least for a short time, correct? "So much to do," he muttered, "we'll need to be mostly prepared already when we hear from them again."

His pacing halted quickly, remembering how out of breath Mo had seemed when he arrived, in addition to the late hour. He seemed to shake off some of the building tension, reminding himself that even with as much as there was to do, perhaps now wasn't the time. "Forgive me, Brother. The hour is late and you must be exhausted. You need rest, and I'm sure I will need it too for the days to come. Preparations can wait for another night." With a smile, Rais inclined his head to the other. "Thank the spirits, we're off to a good start at least. You have done very well, my friend, and deserve a good night's sleep. Go in peace and sleep well. I believe your mate and children missed you today," he teased lightly, arm around the other's shoulders to guide him towards the door.
