I'm a freshmen in college, pretty much just started last week. I'm currently majoring in Mass Communications, which is really quite interesting. I thought for the last few years that this is what I want to do with my life. Two problems, though. First, a lot of people tell me that it's very unlikely I will get a job in my field, namely a job I actually want (something to do with print journalism.) Second, I'm not sure that even if I do get a job, ill actually like it. The field is interesting to learn about, but I don't know if it's something I'm passionate about and want to keep doing for the next four years.
Also, if I switch majors, I have no idea what kind of major I'd actually like or do well in. I also don't want to go into a major that this college doesn't offer, because I love this college a lot, it's such a great school.

Incredibly late in responding to this, but...
You should definitely switch majors if you don't feel comfortable in the one you are currently in. Switching majors is very common, especially in the first and second year. That said, you can always switch majors later on... you'll just be there longer and spend more money. The percentage of people who switch their major one or more times is high.
For your first year, consider being "Undecided" (or your college's equivalent), take gen(eral) ed(ucation) required classes and try electives from several different fields that you are interested in. It will give you an idea of what you enjoy and/or do well in. You may end up going in a completely different direction than you first imagined.
The important thing is to find something that you want to do, but if you change your mind or go in a different direction, it is totally normal. For example, just as I was finishing college, a girl I used to work with called me SOBBING because she was miserable and needed advice. Her first semester of college was a disaster. She missed home and, even though for 18 years she was convinced she wanted to be a vet, hated the classes she was in. She realized that she loved animals but the vet path was not for her.
Long story short, I talked her down, convinced her to transfer to a home college and commute (she was so homesick she couldn't even leave her dorm room), switch to Undecided and test the field. She eventually found the right place for her.
Also, keep in mind that no one can guarantee you a job if you get a degree in a particular field. Sometimes you have to get creative and find jobs in places you don't think to look. For example, an English major? People say it's impossible to find degrees (okay, for Lit majors, yeah), but knowing how to write is a valuable talent in any market. Businesses need writers. Marketing needs writers. Etc.
D: I hope that helped! Please feel free to pick my brain.
