Amarius

User Image

Amarius are the ancestors of the modern day horse. Standing about 15 hands, and weigh about 1000 lbs. They are strong and powerful racers with some of the greatest endurance, and swift of foot. They are also the most willing to work with any Arasti that is brought it's way or that they find.

You'll have to test your wit and cunning to be able to keep one of them. Not to mention, your endurance! As a foal, they are playful and mischievous, always trying to explore the world by tasting or poking and prodding. They have an incredible love of running and racing, as they seem to want to gain their own wings by trying to 'fly' over the earth.

Location: They are found everywhere in the valley, except in the roughest of terrain like the tips of the mountains. They seem to have no preference for a particular area of living, though some will prefer the vast open plains, while others may prefer the protection of the forests.

Abilities:

Speed (Spd): Those who gain this ability are extremely fast, though it does not mean they are agile or graceful. They can outdistance many of the Amarius race, and a few of the other races as well. You may not want to participate in a race against this individual.

Endurance (Endr): Because of their constant movement, they can gain exceptional endurance. Some more then most. The ones who have this ability can last longer going the distance, though they may not be the quickest of hoof.

Water-seeker (Ws): There are those who are really good at finding springs or pools of clean water. Those that are water-seekers are the best at this skill, and help lead themselves, if not others, to clean sources of water.

Strength (Str): These are stronger then the average Amarius, and can pull objects 2x their weight.

Herbalist (Hrb): These Amarius have been blessed by Zovan herself, and have gained a better understanding of the flora and fauna around them. They can lead themselves or others to the sweetest patches of meadow or forage, and have a better time finding herbs and plants that may help with sickness or diseases. If the Amarius is so inclined as to garden, they have a better chance to husband the plants that they are growing, and maintain them through the seasons.

Rarity: This is a Common breed and are easy to locate in the valley.

Aglar

User Image

They are the second smallest breed of horse in the valley, with fine bones in the wings, but powerful muscles for flight. As foals, they are not yet able to fly, with flightless limbs that soon grow feathers, though not strong enough to carry them into the sky, but oh how they want to go! As they grow older, if they can find a hill to run off of, they can even glide for short distances. When they are mature, they are in many ways like swallows; spending much time in the air as they can, playing in the clouds, though they also need to fuel that ability to fly, so you can find them on the ground foraging like their land-based cousins.

Taure

User Image

Taure seem to come out either gentle or strong and fierce. Some Taure will spend their time lolling in the grass and watching the stars, or running across the field chasing everthing just to race it, and feeling very protective of those that they are close too. As foals, they start to run around the meadow; strengthening their legs. Their hooves and horn are starting to harden now into beautiful shimmering things that they are proud of. They spend their days grazing and enjoying the sunlight then not trying to outrace birds for the more outgoing of the race. As adults, the more gentle of the breed are said to help keep spring in the valley, and the sun warming the hills. Everything is at peace around them, and nothing is astray. Everything is peaceful, and the atmosphere of the area is of tranquility to them, and their protective kin do much to keep them in this state.

Teter

User Image

Teters are the smallest of all the breeds of horses in the valley, but that doesn't bother them. When they are foaled, their wings are much like a new butterflies, wet and clinging to their sides. Though it can take several weeks before they actually unfold enough for the little ones to fly, so they spend much time roaming the flowers and the earth below, and running away from mice roaches. When they are mature, they look like rather large butterflies swarming around. Their favorite meal is flower petals, and they can drink the nectar from the blooms as well. They range in a wide variety of colors and wing shapes. Though many are not malicious, they can be jokers and pranksters, as their lives are generally short, so they live it to each day.

Trybith

User Image

Not Yet Available

This species was said to draw the charriot of Hades. Not entirely evil, they do have a wicked gleam to their eyes, and enjoy fresh meat instead of disdainful grass. Their favorite meal has to be the bite-sized Teter, and they will harass the little creatures whenever one is unfortunate enough to cross their path. They prefer darkness over day, and shelter in caves, and roam at night, though they are found out during the day as well. The Kirins tend to keep them from too much mischief with the herds at night, though they will run off with an unguarded foal or two if they find the opportunity. They are strong fighters, and are often looking for trouble, especially amongst their own kind. Males are constantly fighting over females, territory, and anything else that they can thing of. Their horns are strong and their teeth sharp. They are one of only only two races in the valley that actually have a rutting season. As foals, they are constantly running around, seeing what can be knocked off walls, or stripping trees of their leaves. They are found butting their heads against larger and stronger trees, learning the techniques of fighting, and strengthening and sharpening their horns. Their meals usually consist of what the parents catch for them, as well as rats and squirrels..

Aquuis

User Image

Not Yet Available

One of the only water creatures to live in the lakes of the Valley, Aquuis can actually survive on land for a bit as they have both gills, and can breath air normally as well, though they can dry out on the surface. They swim like dolphins through the water, and their general meal is fish and seaweed. They can be as playful as the Teter, and can have close-knit family pods under the vast lake. They can be very defensive of their underwater territory, especially their spawning grounds, and underwater battles between lead stallions or mares can sometimes result in injury or even death. As foals, they are curious and trying to see everything everywhere that they can, though generally they either have a guardian watching over them if not their own parents if they are off to hunt, or are kept close to the pod, though they do try often to escape the many watching eyes. If both parents need to leave to hunt, there is a general watcher who takes over the foals, or another in the pod will be assigned that duty.

Tesharak

User Image

Not Yet Available

They are the second longest-lived race in the Valley, and they can either be good or bad. Unlike others of the veil, their skin is covers with thick hard scales, much like armor, and though they are generally wingless, and slower of foot then the Amarius, they can take an incredible amount of damage that no other race, even the Kirins, could sustain. Some study the art of battle, while others study the wisdom of the ages. They generally live in caves as well, though you can see them sprawling on the stones out in the son from time to time, soaking in the warmth. They are carnivores. As foals, they have an apatite that is amazing. They can eat almost twice their weight in a day, and generally tend to sleep a lot, but they grow remarkably fast; obtaining their full growth faster then any other valley inhabitant. Parents are hard-pressed to feed their demanding offspring, and it generally takes the effort of two to raise the foals. The foals may also eat bats or anything else that they come across in the caves that smells good.

Grif

User Image

Not Yet Available

And odd combination of horse and bird, Griff's come as a wide variety. Some have the temperament (and brains) of pigeons, while other tend to follow a more predatory lifestyle of hawks. They also have a variety of muted colors to blazing bright feathers that make your eyes water to look at them. They are omnivores, and depending on their natures helps determine whether it is grass or meat they like best. Some theorize that the Griff came from an Aglar and a great falcon breeding, but no one is ever really sure. Griffs tend to make their homes in the boughs of oaks trees in the forest, and can gather materials to make very large nests, which they defend fiercely from other flying creatures. As foals, they are also flightless much like Aglars, except their meals are provided by the parents. The only area they usually have to explore is the oak, and they must be careful because if they slip, either the fall could kill them, or some other predator might. Some parents only stay together long enough to watch the children fledge, and others mate for life. Sometimes, if something happens to the parents, and Aglar may adopt a Griff fledgling, though it does not happen often.

Kirin

User Image

Specialty Pet

Kirin are the main guardians of the valley. They make sure of the safety of the inhabitants, and sometimes journey out into the outside world to find any different plants or animals that the others may find pleasurable to interact with. They can be very protective, and are known to fight, though they also tend to be rather mysterious. It seems almost every herd has a kirin or two somewhere nearby as a protector, though most are not seen. Their greatest enemy is if a Tesharak has turned bad, or if there is a herd of darker souls, and then it may take more then one Kirin to battle them back. Kirin are silent observers in the world that they call home, and it is rare for them to breed, as they are the longest lived species in the valley. When there are foals, the foals are off on their feet and ready for auction even before they have figured out how to balance. They're wide eyed and splayed legged, and ready to take on the world. You will find them already at this stage trying to help others, or sticking their nose into everything. Kirin females tend to have two horns, while the males have one.

Also, some Kirin have scales while others do not, though they are the same species, just with different traits. The scaled brethren seem to be a bit more active though in fighting battles then their less armored kin, though some of the greatest fighters in legend were a mix between scaled and non.
