If I might expound...
Shalom. And may the Father bless each of you to the end of your days.
Earlier I posted an announcement regarding relationships. In my annoyance with the character cap on the post, I'm afraid I broke the rules regarding references. For that, I do apologize... it was also pointed out by brother Hawk that I might post both the Scriptures version, and the KJV, for a better comparison. Again, I use The Scriptures (and others like it), because I'd rather have a translation/transliteration that is more simplified. As in... hebrew to English, rather than hebrew to greek to trashed latin to English... If any of you need another version than what's listed, please let one of us know. I have at least electronic access to many, though I have yet to be able to copy/paste on this site with this device, or type hebrew... but on occasion I may have access to our slightly less lag resistant laptop. Slow enough that I will be assured of a Shabbat rest for waiting. lol

The piece was actually a list of thoughts I had given to a former guild member regarding her marriage. I was asked, not for approval or disapproval, but for a listening ear. Whatever advice I could give. And a little encouragement. The marriage had not been going well for some time, and divorce was imminent. They have, however, decided to live together. For their son. The relationship, slowly, has begun to heal and mature. Though many of their peers are a little too adamant about stating opinions. Forgetting that they had already made their decisions, and mostly that it was between them and the Father in the end.
Looking back at my years of research and peer counseling in this area, I realized there really wasn't much I could advise them on. So I started with something that every relationship should have - love.
See... if you read the scripture, actually sit and READ more than single verses, there seems to be an overwhelming theme through the whole bible revolving around relationships. The whole thing about the covenant was how we interact with the Father. Our relationship with Him. The apostle Paul discusses this in 1st Corinthians 13 and 14.

1 Corinthians 13:13
Quote:

And now belief, expectation, and love remain - these three. But the greatest of these is love.
~The Scriptures 2009

And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
~KJV

1 cor 14:15-17
Quote:

15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.
16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?
17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.
~KJV

15 What then is it? I shall pray with the spirit, and I shall also pray with the understanding. I hall sing with the spirit, and I shall also sing with the understanding.
16 Otherwise, if you bless me with the spirit, how shall he who fills up the place of the unlearned say Amen at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you say?
17 For you truly give thanks well, but the other is not built up.
~The Scriptures 2009

I know it seems a lot, but please find time to see the entirety of both chapters. There's so much more...
Now... this could apply to any relationship of the heart. Or even an acquaintance. Business, passing conversation... and, even as the Master said, our enemies. I started there, rather than the rules of marriage listed throughout the scriptures, because what we lack in today's society for relationships is a sound foundation.

1 cor 13
Quote:

1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of messengers, but do not have love, I have become as sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
2 And if I have prophesy, and know all secrets and all knowledge, and if I have all belief, but do not have love, I am none at all.
3 And And if I give out all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but o not have live, I am not profited at all.
4 Love is patient, is kind, love does not envy, love does not boast, is not puffed up,
5 does not behave indecently, does not seek its own, is not provoked, recons not the evil,
6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices in the truth,
7 it covers all, believes all, expects all, endures all.
8 Love ever fails. And whether there be prophecies, they shall be inactive; or tongues, they shall cease; or knowledge, it shall be inactive.
9 For we all know in part and we prophecy in part.
10 But hen that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part shall be inactive.
~The Scriptures 2009

1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.
3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is is not puffed up,
5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophecy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
~KJV

If we take the time to look back in the Torah (Old Testament), we find that all of these things Yahshua/Jesus was teaching us were nothing new. He was taking it straight out of Yah's/God's Word. Remember, the NT hadn't really been written yet. They all used the OT for teaching and discussions. Yahshua and Paul were actually teachers instructed in the Word. Yahshua a rabbi, and Paul a pharisee.

Mark 9:5
Quote:

And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
~KJV

5 And Kepha responding, said to Yahushua, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. And let us make three booths, one for You, and one for Moshe, and one for Eliyahu,"
~The Scriptures 2009

Acts 23:6
Quote:

Now Sha'ul, perceiving that one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, cried out in the council, "Men, brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee, I am being judged concerning the expectation and resurrection of the dead!"
~The Scriptures 2009

But when Paul perceived that the one part were sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.
~KJV

Quote:

Pharisees. From perishin Aramaic, perushim, "separated." To which Paul alludes, Rom. i. 1, Gal. i. 15, once "separated unto the gospel of God";..."voluntarily devoted to the law"...

But I digress... in the Torah/Old Testament, we find many stories that have this same theme in their passages. From the beginning, when Adam and Eve were evicted from the garden:

Genesis 3
Quote:

3 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
~KJV

1 And the nahash was more crafty than all the lives of the field which YHWH Elohim had made, and he said to the woman, "Is it true that Elohim has said, 'Do not eat of every tree of the garden'?"
2 And the woman said to the nahash, "We are to eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden,
3 "but the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, Elohim said, 'Do not eat of it, nor touch it, lest you die.'"4 And the nahash said to the woman, "You shall certainly not die.
5 For Elohim knows that in the day that you eat of it your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be like Elohim, knowing good and evil."
6 And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, and she took of its fruit and ate. And she also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.
7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made loin coverings for themselves.
8 And they heard the voice of YHWH Elohim walking about in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves in the presence of YHWH Elohim among the trees of the garden.
9 And YHWH called unto Adam and said to him, "Where are you?"
10 And he said, "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid myself."
11 And He said, "Who made you know that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?"
12 And the man said, "The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree and I ate."
13 And YHWH Elohim said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" And the woman said, "The nahash deceived me, and I ate."
14 And YHWH Elohim said to the nahash, "Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all livestock and more than every beast of the field. On your belly you are to go, and eat dust all the days of your life.
15 "And I put enmity between you and the, and between your seed and her Seed. He shall crush your head, and you shall crush His heel."
16 To the woman He said, "I greatly increase your sorrow and your conception - bring forth children in pain. And your desire is for your husband, and he does rule over you."
17 And to the man He said, "Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'Do not eat of it': "Cursed is the ground because of you, in toil you are to eat of it all of the days of your life,"
~The Scriptures 2009

As we can see, these two already had a relationship. But they weren't close enough in that bond to keep each other out of trouble, let alone back each other up. (this may be my perception, but I'm convicted in this. Test everything)
Hence the eviction...

Later on in the Book of Genesis, we see Abraham and Sarah. Through their lives, the Father actually seems to encourage them to work together as a couple.

Genesis 12
Quote:

11 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14 And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15 The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house.
16 And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
17 And the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram's wife.
~KJV

11 And it came to be, when he was close to entering Mitsrayim, that he said to Sarai his wife, "See, I know that you are a beautiful woman to look at.
12 "And it shall be, when the Mitsrites see you, that they shall say, 'This is his wife.' And they shall kill me, but let you live.
13 Please say that you are my sister, so that it shall be well with me for your sake, and my life be spared because of you."
14 And it came to be, when Abram came into Mitsrayim, that the Mitsrites saw the woman, that she was very beautiful.
15 And the Pharaoh's officials saw her and praised her before Pharaoh, and the woman was taken to Pharaoh's house.
16 And he treated Abram well for her sake, and he had sheep, and cattle, and male donkeys, and male and female servants, and female donkeys, and camels.
17 But YHWH plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram's wife.
~The Scriptures 2009

Some people tell me that this was deceptive, and that they shouldn't have done this. That they shouldn't have lied for personal gain, that Abraham pimped her out, that this and that... But, again, we have to read the whole thing to put it into context. They didn't lie - they were half-brother and sister. And Hebrews weren't exactly that well accepted in this region. Abraham had STUFF, and therefor subject to anyone that wanted to take said STUFF. They were doing what they could to survive. If you keep reading, this actually happened twice (again, in chapter 20). Anybody notice how old these people were? Kings were trying to take her even when she was well past her prime. Wow... And her man knew she looked good enough that he had to protect her from kings? He sure thought a lot of her...

Then, being as old as she was, and not still there yet in her walk, she figured She wasn't going to have children. No heir for the STUFF. So, loving him, she did the next best thing...

Genesis 16
Quote:
2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the Lord hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
3 And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
~KJV

2 And Sarai said to Abram, "See, YHWH has kept me from bearing children. Please, go into my female servant. It might be that I am built up by her." And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.
3 And Sarai, Abram's wife, took Hagar her female servant, the Mitsrian, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Ka'anan.
~The Scriptures 2009

Now... keep in mind that the Father promised Abraham that both sons were to inherit, that both would make 'great nations'. This in Genesis chapter 17, and again later in the book. They also go through a few more problems, but Yah keeps them together... like after Sarah's child was born...

Genesis 21
Quote:

8 And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.
9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, which she had born unto Abraham, mocking.
10 Wherefore she said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac.
11 And the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.
12 And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
13 And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.
~KJV

8 And the child grew and was weaned, and Abraham made a great feast on the day that Yitshaq was weaned.
9 And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Mitsrian, whom she had born to Abraham, mocking.
10 So she said to Abraham, "Drive out this female servant and her son,
for the son of this female servant shall not inherit with my son, with Yitshaq.
11 And the matter was very evil in the eyes of Abraham because of his son.
12 But Elohim said to Abraham, "Let it not be evil in your eyes because of the boy and because of your female servant. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice, for in Yitshaq your seed is called.
13 And the son of the female servant I also make a nation, because he is your seed."
~The Scriptures 2009

Again, best to read it for yourself. With the guidance of the Ruach haQodesh/Holy Spirit.

The story of David and his first wife, Michal. How, in spite of the fact that he had to win her with his war prowess, she loved him anyway. Even enough to go against her father, King Saul.

1 Samuel 18:28
Quote:
And Saul saw and knew that the Lord was with David, and that Michal Saul's daughter loved him.
~KJV

And Sha'ul saw and knew that YHWH was with Dawid, and Mikal daughter of Sha'ul did love him.
~The Scriptures 2009

1 Samuel 19
Quote:
10 And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin: but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.
11 Saul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain.
12 So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.
13 And Michal took an image, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster, and covered it with a cloth.
14 And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.
15 And Saul sent the messengers again to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.
16 And when the messengers were come in, behold, there was an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster.
17 And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?
~KJV

10 and Sha'ul sought to strike the spear through Dawid, and into the wall, but he slipped away from the presence of Sha'ul, so that he struck the spear into the wall. And Dawid fled and escaped that night.
11 And Sha'ul sent messengers to Dawid's house to watch him and to put him to death in the morning. And Mikal, Dawid's wife, informed him, saying, "If you do not save your life tonight, tomorrow you are put to death.:
12 So Mikal put Dawid down through a window, and he went and fled and escaped.
13 And Mikal took the household idol and laid it in the bed, and put a cover of goats' hair for his head, and covered it with a garment.
14 And when Sha'ul sent messengers to take Dawid, she said, "He is sick."
15 And Sha'ul sent the messengers back to see Dawid, saying, "Bring him up to me in bed to put him to death."
16 And the messengers came in and saw the household idol in the bed, with a cover of goats' hair for his head.
17 Sha'ul then said to Mikal, "Why have you deceived me like this, and sent my enemy away, so that he escaped?" And Mikal answered Sha'ul, "He said to me, 'Let me go, why should I put you to death?'"

Some days, you just do what you have to do. Another good aspect of this story is the bond between David and Prince Jonathan. Another must read.

The Book of Esther. You just have to read the whole thing. I could post it here, but I've already
got a wall of text to beat what I usually do.
I have a link to the KJV though, and when I can I'll see if I can get one to a proper The Scriptures version. Or whatever else is requested. Until I can get something that I can copy/paste or type out...

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Esther 1&version=KJV

Notice that not once is the Father mentioned in this book. But, this is a very interesting portrayal of relationships. That between Esther and her husband (the king), under extreme circumstances. That between Esther and her uncle, and how she makes it work with her husband. That between a queen and her people, who are about to be exterminated in her husbands name, How a holiday can become a blood bath, even between people who love each other. And how we can do the best we can, still love each other, and go back to the party. Amein.

Now, more to the point. Yahushua Messiah/Jesus Christ. The whole reason why He was here was to show us how all of this was done. Not just how to READ the scripture, not how to follow the rules, but how to LIVE Yah's Word. He was/IS a living example of how to do this. If you look at the commandments/precepts/laws, you might notice that they all have one thing in common - how to treat the Father, ourselves, and each other. Yahushua is trying to impress on us that this can only be done in LOVE. Paul reiterated this, geek that he was, in his writings. Most people relate them to stereo instructions, and likewise we'd probably better grab a child to explain it to us. in this case, the younger the better. Some one that hasn't been jaded and corrupted by grownups.

Couple of simple verses that I think we can all understand though...

Matthew 5
Quote:
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
~KJV

44 "But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless those cursing you, do good to those hating you, and pray for those insulting you,
45 so that you become sons of your Father in the heavens. Because He makes His sun rise on the wicked and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous.
46 For if you love those loving you, what reward have you? Are the tax collectors not doing the same too?
47 "And if you greet your brothers only, what do you do more than others? Are the tax collectors not doing so too?
48 "Therefore, be perfect, as your Father in the heavens is perfect."
~The Scriptures 2009

And...

Matthew 22

Quote:
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
~KJV

37 And Yahushua said to him, "'You shall love YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your mind.'
38 "This is the first and great command.
39 "And the second is like it, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
40 "On these two commands hang all the Torah and the Prophets."

Now... please consider where this was going, and what the Master was trying to tell us. Because it doesn't matter what the relationship is, even to be married, there are things to consider. Because, if we love each other that much, we wouldn't do anything to hurt each other. So... even though we couldn't get ourselves to 'love' those that have hurt us the most, or those that we don't get along with, why would we hurt those close to us? Why wouldn't we have the patience and compassion it takes to look at ourselves first, before we condemn the other? How perfect are we? What would it take to extend our dedication to that love for the Father to those around us? Not as a door mat, or 'slave', but as honor and integrity. We certainly shouldn't condone poor behavior. But we can also see that there isn't a one of us that could come up to the Messiah's standard. But do we give up?
Something to think about...
With love, your sister in Yahushua Messiah,
~MW
