Elemental Shrines The Elemental Shrines are a Spiritual Oasis that absorbs spiritual energy throughout time. Each Shrine contains a different Orb of spiritual energy called Kyutai. These Orbs of energy act as receptors of great power and are activated through specialized rituals which transports their power to the world of their choosing. Normally the Shrines are sealed off so spiritual beings cannot touch it, which will ensure that the Kyutai sleeping away inside of the shrines remained sealed off along with the powers they’ve come to possess.
There is a legend about the Kyutai and the Gates of Hell. They say the Kyutai were created by an unnamed master of Kido centuries ago before the dawn of the Gotei 13 or even Central 46, all there was, was the Royal Family and the King of all Souls. They say that the Kyutai was created to form a lock over the Gates of Hell which created the bottomless prison those who have been banished by the Soul King himself. The legend continues to state, for whoever breaks the seal on these Shrines shall awaken the Golden Lord; The King of Darkness from his sealed slumber. Only to be enslaved by his aura and forced to release him back into the world in which he was banished so he can have his revenge against those who placed him in a prison for over five thousand years.
Once unsealed the Kyutai’s power rages rapid and cannot be stopped by normal means, only by obtaining the Key to the Gates of Hell can one, place dominance on the Kyutai’s power in order to seal the energy within its orb form. The Key of Hell is said to be protected by the Royal Guard and kept within the estate of the Soul King.
A word of caution, the shrines in which these gems of great power are sealed away in the world of the Living, yet there are five families who have been entrusted to protect the Shrines for generations. These families have a sacred duty to protect these shrines with their lives even if they die in the process. The humans built the shrines so they are extremely old and easily destroyed. The smallest disturbance of spiritual power or destruction of the shrine is enough to break the seal over the Kyutai and release the stored energy. Once all five shrines have been destroyed and the Kyutai’s power has been released the Gates of Hell will appear and with the Power Sphere (Key of Hell) the gates will open and the horrors beyond the gate will be free to run wild through the realm of the living, forever! That is unless someone finds a way to close the gates of Hell and reseal each of the Kyutai’s enraged powers.
Now, that’s not to say that the Kyutai can’t serve another purpose. Their powers can be released by a single wielder at a time, but they must be holding the orb, to even tap into their great powers. Tapping into their powers and removing them from their shrines will not release the power into a blinding rage. Destroying the orbs will. Because they are made up of Kido they are practically glass spheres, if they shatter during the process of use their powers will rage rapid and the seal on the Gates of Hell will start to unravel.

The Shrine of Fire Name: Fushicho (Phoenix) Guardian: The Li Family Location: Description: Found within the Elemental Shrine of Fire, is the Kyutai known as Fushicho (Phoenix). Being found within the Shrine of Fire, Fushicho’s powers are focused soley on the control and utilization of fire for various forms of attack, defense, and supplementary bonuses; making it the embodiment of a phoenix, because it also grants immortality to the one who holds it. Although immortality isn’t the correct word for the gift Fushicho blesses its wielder. Fushicho is known as the Will of the Gate and is said to be final key that should be released due to the amount of spiritual energy it has absorbed since its creation. Because of the different degrees of flames, those who travel to Hell are more vulnerable to the flames found in such a place. The Fires of Hell are said to burn till no end, and a normal human wouldn’t last thirty seconds within them even if they were sprayed down with water. The fires just continue to burn. Fushicho doesn’t just have control over the forces of fire, but complete dominace over flames in general, whether they be conjured by the works of magic or created from some special ability. The spirits of flame are drawn to the sphere making the one who wields it unable to be burned or hurt by flames; the same rule applies to the Shrine itself. Because Fushicho is linked with the shrine it protects its home from the burden of fire and absorbs the flames through a powerful barrier it creates. A secret that has been passed down about the Fushicho within the Li family is: If one holds Fushicho and is burned alive they shall not die, but shall be reborn with healing that surpasses even high-speed regeneration. The downside is that the fire must be the cause of death.

The Natsume Family are the protectors of the Shrine of Water; they’ve been protecting the Shrine ever since they were dethroned as a Noble Family. The water inside the orb glow with great power and with a single drop of water it heals all ailments. The water inside of the orb is the tears of the Royal Family, which already possessed a large amount of spiritual power but after five thousand years of absorbing spiritual energy of the spirits of water, these tears now have the power to stop the flowing of tears caused by pain.

The Shrine of Spirit (Heaven) Name: Oin (King’s Seal) Guardian: The Hiwatori Family Location: Description: The Oin is an artifact that previously belonged to the Soul Society’s Royal Family, but having two keys of the Gates of Hell in the same location proved to be rather foolish. Entrusting the Hiwatori Family with the Oin they sealed its great power of Time Manipulation within a container and placed it within the Shrine of the Spirit also known as the Shrine of Heaven in the World of the Living. This golden orb is said to possess the ability to bend time itself allowing the wielder to rewind, fast forward, slow down, and even stop time in its tracks. Legend has it those who hold the Oin for long periods of time can essentially become immortal by freezing their own time, halting their aging process.
