Rider

Name: Zen (Formerly Zennaren)
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Former/Current Craft and Rank: Apprentice Seacrafter
Rider Rank: Sienna Wingsecond

History:
The youngest of 6 in a seafaring family Zen supposes you could call her a seacrafter. She did pick up a lot of the craft whether she wanted to or not, but a life on the water was never her calling. She knew from a young age though that her destiny lay within the skies, and after her eldest brother was taken on Search to Serrat Weyrhold, Zen would settle for nothing less than following him the moment she turned 12.

It wasn't immediate, but as Freyth had risen and a clutch was too be laid, young Zennaren's turn did come around. At 13 she was standing opposite of her brother for her first Hatching, with their parents in the audience watching as two of their children insisted on leaving them behind.

Zofer was lucky. Zennaren was not.

She refused to give up though. Seeing her brother and his new bonded growing among the weyrlings only goaded her to preform better in her chores and lessons. She kept up with her craft, studying under the Journeymen present at Serrat. It made their parents happy at least.

Personality:

Zen idolized her oldest brother when she was small. She could almost always be found in his shadow, watching what he was doing and later emulating him around her own friends. Lucky for her, if not for the rest of their family, pride ran strong through their blood.

Nowadays, her hero-worship of her brother has faded in favor of her own accomplishments and self-worth. Cocky and self assured, Zen's at that age where the world belongs to her and no one could possibly be better than she. She's firmly convinced that she's reached her peak and it will all be smooth sailing from here on. Still, Zen loves to prove herself just to remind others of how awesome she is. What's the use of boastful words if you have nothing to back them with? If she sets her sights on something she'll give every ounce of herself to achieve it. Zen is anything but a quitter. Her desires may change on a whim but once she's set her sights on a goal, she won't give up until she has it.

Competitiveness also seems to run in the family whether or not her mother admits it. She loves a challenge because it gives her an opportunity to prove how amazing she is. Anything from wrestling, to dice, to even the most thorough job completion will draw her interest if it's suggested that someone might be better. Survival instincts can often take a backseat in favor of competition.

Another side of this is that she hates to let people down. You can be assured, if she's asked to do something, she'll get it done. She has a sense of honor and fairness that her brother often lacks. Zen's not afraid of hard work and underneath her carefree take on life, there is a responsible young woman beginning to develop.

While she always aims to be the best, Zen refuses to sink so low as to cheat. Which of course shows that she's already better than someone who does, even if they 'won'. It wasn't rightly earned and they're just an immature loser. Still, Zen is prone to overreacting and melodrama, blowing things out of proportion and holding long lasting grudges.

Physical Description: Standing at a decent 5' 10, Zen is neither impressive in her height, or in the lack of it. She has sharp grey eyes and dark hair that she keeps cut short for comfort. Zen is active, both as a rider and in her free time; and her toned body shape reflects the amount of effort she puts into all aspects of her life.

Zen is a very clean person as well. She likes being freshly washed, with clean clothes, tamed hair and trimmed nails. She's not above getting dirty, but you can expect her first stop afterward will be the baths.

Other:

Dragon

Name: Fafneeth
Age: 7
Color: Brown
Physical Description:
Fafneeth is a drab, mottled brown with a smattering of spots across his shoulders and wings. He is among the smaller of the browns although he'd appreciate it very much if you didn't bring that up. Despite that his build is good and where he lacks in stamina, he makes up for in speed.

Personality:

Fafneeth is the textbook definition of that guy. The one with his hand in all the pies, who knows all the gossip and how to get a hold of just about anything. He is a calculated and exquisitely manipulative dragon, well-versed in getting his own way and, should there be any blame to go around, you can be sure that none of it will land on his spotless brown hide. He is greedy and ambitious , with the right partner, he has the potential to rise quite high.

Fafneeth is on the smaller end of the scale for a brown but that's only served to make him more ambitious. He will never settle for catching any old green that's rising, it will be golds or nothing for this boy. A green might make an acceptable accomplice but he simply refuses to chase them, showing an inexplicable amount of restraint over his instincts.

His ambition causes him to strive towards excellence, intent on being better than everyone at everything. Fafneeth will strive to be the first to learn to fly, to flame and of course to be ready to travel between. He will do his best to meet and exceed the expectations placed on him. Of course he expects no less from his rider and he won't hesitate to snap at his bonded if the other starts falling behind. They are not going to be just another brown and his rider, they will be renowned for their skill and wits because Fafneeth will have things no other way.

If there is any personal reward to be had from completing a task, you can be sure the small brown will be there in a heartbeat. On the other hand, if Fafneeth doesn't see any gain to be had, he can grow stubborn and unwilling to work. There's no glory to be had in helping corral herdbeasts back to the pastures after some dimglow left the gate open, so someone else can do that. It's just plain offensive to ask him to help other weyrlings understand lessons he has long since mastered. There is only so much time in a day to accomplish things and Fafneeth tries to be productive with all of his waking hours.

For all that he has a short memory Fafneeth is an excellent schemer. He will chat up nosy dragons to learn what they've been overhearing or to get them to spread rumors. He'll happily bully the pushovers in his clutch and force them to do his bidding. He's not above cheating either and you can bet that any small misfortunes that happen to his strongest competitors are the brown's doing, although you'll probably never be able to prove it. Nothing stands between Fafneeth and things he wants be they glory or something more material.

For all that he intends to rule the Weyr one day Fafneeth is not so eager that he would attempt to just wrestle authority away from those who have it now. Those who earned their high ranks will have his respect for now even as he seeks to replace them.

Fafneeth is just a little bit paranoid, he's positive someone is going to try and ruin all his carefully laid plans. As such tends to prefer his rider's company to that of other dragons when he doesn't need them for something. Even his clutch mates are not above suspicion and randomly offering to help the brown in any way will get you a wary eye and an interrogation on what you want in return. Fafneeth approaches you, not the other way around ! In fact Fafneeth would much rather trade favors than be left in someone's debt lest they use it against him.

Fafneeth loathes firelizards, they are small irritating little snitches that he can't control and he'll not stand to see them in his weyr.

It would be folly to consider Fafneeth a good dragon, he has time only for achieving things that matter to him and his rider. The Weyr is simply the stage upon which he will be recognized for his brilliance and physical prowess. Still, one would be remiss to simply dismiss Fafneeth. He gets things done and he does those things well, he knows the Weyr, it's inhabitants and their traits like he knows his own hide. Fafneeth is a valuable ally to have and his desire to be recognized will benefit the Weyr greatly.
