So I now there are at least a couple other people besides me who are fans and/or play Magic: The Gathering(MTG). Figured I'd create this thread so everyone can talk about it. The topic can be anything from deck construction, to drafting, to just simple art on the cards. Keep it civil though will ya? I know MTG and the Internet are srs bsns but please? Anyway, have fun people!

Well, since this is here, I suppose I'll give a little bit of input. (Btw, sorry for the dead-ness on the blast...been busy with life.)

I play a White/Blue deck. Yes, I know there are a lot of people who loathe these types of decks but I myself find its construction to be quite useful. I don't want to divulge my whole deck, but the focus of my deck isn't all "CONTROL ALL", just suppression of the opponent long enough to break out my high cost cards before mowing everyone down and recovering my own HP. I used to have a Red/Black deck, and am currently saving money so I can rebuild said deck. I ended up selling that deck when I was strapped for cash...I regret, but don't regret it as I needed the money to pay bills, but I dearly miss that deck.

I'm also very interested in forming a strategy for playing a White/Green deck O_o It sounds very opposite in my head to try and find balance, but Stef is all for this, saying that the challenge would be worth it so we could find a good combination and balance of it. :3

Indeed, I do. If I am not mistaken, a lot of the green cards and abilities focus on mana gen/regen, right? (If not, I apologize, it has been a long while since we've played the game and I have not really focused much study into the other colors besides Red/Black) If so, finding a good balance between White and Green, would be an absolute must

Being able to bust out enough mana in a turn to be able to summon good, superior white cards would be ideal. I can't really think of any good examples right off the top of my head, as I am not familiar with many of the White and Green cards, but it's the idea of the challenge in constructing said deck and all the effort put into finding the right balance of it is what intrigues me. I'll need to read upon and study more of the cards before I attempt to put a tentative list together of possible combinations.

Well, there you have it, straight from the man himself. xD Personally, I'm fine with just our White/Blue deck, but if he really wants to do this, then I'm not gonna stop him <3 Annnnd that's all, here's our little half-assed discussion on MTG. xDD

White/Green is definitely mana ramp and plopping down fatties(big creatures for those not in the know)quickly. Stuff like Elvish Mystic, Avacyn's Pilgrim, Arbor Elf...all three ramp mana to get bigger stuff, like Loxodon Smiter, Craterhoof Behemoth, Thragtusk...Essentially it's a big beats make for good eats system. Though White/Green has kinda fallen by the wayside for stuff like Naya(Red/White/Green)and Green/Black with stuff like Voice of Resurgence and Scavenging Ooze. Don't get me wrong, White/Green is still incredibly powerful. It might lose a bit of steam after Innistrad block and M13 rotate out once the new set comes out. As for my own decks, I'm currently working on building a Red/Black hyper aggro deck. Low curve and burn for LIFE. I also wanna build a budget version of the Izzet Blitz deck, a red/blue deck(focuses on getting a card called Nivix Cyclops out, and making good use of its ability while controlling the board enough to beat down with it. Lots of card draw as well). My hope is to make it work post-rotation in Standard so...yeah.

I personally love playing aggro decks. It fits me, as I tend to have patience problems(big surprise there!). I'm not one for blue, but the deck I want to build is fun in my head so....

Anywave, glad to see at least SOME interest in this topic.

Yeah, my friend played a Red/Green deck and it was aggro and it was batshit powerful. >w< he could spit out his most powerful card in three moves if done right. And the only way I could stop that was to play more preventive-like by playing my cards with the delay abilities and whatnot. X_x My deck was made for Life replenishing and control of the field long enough to build enough mana to dish out my higher monsters and had plenty of flying creatures to dish out damage from afar. *nod*

In all honesty, she plays the White/Blue deck better than I do, as her strategies have always been based around playing defensive-aggressive rather than playing it aggressive and all out. My tactics were better suited for our old Red/Black that boasted quick-burn cards that were all-out. I suppose that just goes to show another huge contrast between us, she struggled to use that deck while I excelled at it, and I have my troubles with the White/Blue while she can utilize them to their fullest potential because despite being the one with heavy impatience, she has always been able to focus almost with single-minded determination when playing MTG, Yugioh, and Pokemon cards. /shrug.

Well, what can I say? It's like me playing any FF game, I have enough patience to sit around in one area and level grind until I'm level 100 or 99 with max abilities, ect before I even advance halfway through the game. (In example: Before I even reached disc 2 on FF8, my Squall was already maxed out at level 100 before any of my others even reached level 30....I trained batshit insane against T-Rexaurs with just Squall...xD) I always seem to have enough patience to do that, but when it comes to everything else...well, my patience goes by the way side and I want EVERYTHING DONE NOW~!! D< Lol. <3

I've currently got 4 decks that I made that I really like

Krenko, Mob Boss EDH deck. It's a ridiculous shenanigans instigator deck. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/red-army-13-08-13-1/

Black/Green Dredge deck. It makes big shagnasties for cheap such as splinterfright, Boneyard Wurm, Cryptborn Horrow, and Ghoultree then sacs them with Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/jarad-dredge-17-08-13-1/

Green/White Enchantment deck 'nuff said there.

and my 100 card skittles superfriends deck of cascading ridiculousness http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/superfriends-assemble-1/

Oh? Is it standard, modern, legacy...elaborate. I'm trying to build a Black/Red hyper aggro standard deck at this point. Missing only a few cards and I'm curious to see if we have the same idea.

That's basically what my deck does, or will do once I get the cards I'm missing. Bascially if everything goes right, by turn three, I have four creatures out and have done 15 damage without blocks being made. It's a case of the "Perfect Hand" but it can happen, and I've seen it happen. Hyper aggro decks in my experience are the most dangerous ones when they're done right, killing you before you get a chance to do anything.

MTG is about soul crushing. ALWAYS SOUL CRUSHING.

Anyways, time to bring up a topic: the new set! Theros.

Theros is the first set to be exclusively based on Greek Mythos, with all sorts of fun myths in the plane. The Gods of the plane are powerful cards, with Thassa, God of the Sea being probably the best. Now for the actual question: With the prerelease of Theros coming a week from Saturday, what are YOU most excited for in Theros, and why?

Personally, I'm excited for Purphoros, God of the Forge. He's the Red God, and is all about burn and raw damage. Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, he deals 2 damage to each opponent, and for 1 red and 2 colorless, he gives all your creatures +1/+0. Second ability isn't that great, but with token decks, the first is absolutely amazing. I've already had horrible ideas(and by horrible I mean terrifying). Theros looks to be a fun set to draft, and take cards for EDH/Commander.
