What the Uglies Series is about
Uglies is a 2005 science fiction novel by Scott Westerfeld. It is set in a future post-scarcity dystopian world in which everyone is turned "Pretty" by extreme cosmetic surgery upon reaching age 16. It tells the story of teenager Tally Youngblood who rebels against society's enforced conformity, after her newfound friends Shay and David show her the downsides to becoming a "Pretty". They show Tally how being a "Pretty" can change not only your look but your personality. Written for young adults, Uglies deals with adolescent themes of change, both emotional and physical. The book is the first installment in what was originally a trilogy, the Uglies series, which also includes Pretties, Specials, and Extras
Under the surface, Uglies speaks of high-profile government conspiracies and the danger of trusting the omnipresent Big Brother. While the underlying story condemns war and all the side effects thereof, the true thrust of the story is that individual freedoms are far more important than the need for uniformity and the elimination of personal will.

The Story
It's been years since the extras left earth and created the space stations surrounding earth, people are finally accustomed to the idea that they can expand as far as they want now, with no problems at all since the universe is boundless. Earth has now became a forgotten planet where everything thrives, of course, being monitored. Earth is thriving, surviving, repairing from the damage that the humans had done to it. Hover-sky scrapers are nothing now, and the cities of the mind-rain have now become old and fallen apart. The cities on earth had fallen to the same fate as the Rusty towns. Everyone, even Tally and Aya, are now crumblies, and that proves to be a huge problem when distaster strikes on earth.
Something intelligent is taking out the satellites that are used to monitor the now human-deserted earth. Confused, the collanies send down to Special curcumstance officers to find out what was going on. The old ways of making specials are back in order, but no one knows this besides the ones who preform the Surge. On earth, a sentient animal species has grown the ability to think on the level of humans. They have the fur and features of a mix between a siberian tiger and a cougar, but are bipedal, and angry. These sentient beings want the earth, and they want it all to themselves.
Specials-
Uglies are surveillanced (surveilled) by Special Circumstances to see if they have what it takes to become a Special. The security system in Pretty Town is "too easy" to hack and trick. It is believed that the Specials were created by Dr. Cable to stop humans from expanding into the wild or resisting the cities. Specials are described as frighteningly beautiful and as a "cruel pretty" with features like large coal black eyes, sharp cheekbones ...etc. They undergo a special surgery that gives them; the ability to feel vibrations with their hands, enhanced senses, muscles sheathed with self-repairing mono filament, sharp orbital alloy teeth, incredible reflexes, bones made out of aircraft ceramics (light as bamboo and hard as diamonds), and are implanted with skintenna, (an antenna implanted on their spine which allows them to hear/see what the other do, talk to each other or listen to music.)
