First off,
Hi.
I'm Marshall.

Now, I am in need of some help.
I love writing, with a passion.
But a lot of the times, I get what most people call
"Writer's Block"
I don't believe in it.
I call it a slump, where my brain just doesn't have anything to pump out.
So I don't write.
For a long.
Long.
Time.
And that's a problem for me.
I just have no desire to write what so ever.
I've found sometimes this lasts up to years.
Which, also, is not a cool thing.
So, I was wondering if you can help me.

I found music,
Catchy, inspiring music,
Makes me want to write.
Examples of stuff that has made me write before:
Breaking Benjamin - Dear Agony
Globus - Europa
Boyce Avenue - Will You Be There
Bowling For Soup - High School Never Ends
Macklemore - Can't Hold Us

This is just to name a few.
I'll listen to these songs over
And over
And over.
And it just makes writing so much easier.
Hell, I even listen to Beethoven.
So post something that makes YOU write.
Maybe it will get me writing too.

So I can get back to what I love most.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I seriously have a cycle...
I start a writing project, then slowly lose it.
Something upsets me in RL, and I become distant with people.
I listen to the same songs by the same band every time this happens.
When I get moody, I have really weird dreams.
Bam! Inspiration!
lol I know it's weird, but this seriously happens to me....
But I also blame that for why I have so many unfinished projects.

Also, watch really weird TV shows. A mixture of genres. One might be something like CSI, the other could be one of the Jackass movies. I always keep my range of TV shows I watch, or even book I read, very wide. Then I get a bunch of ideas that I just have to piece together in the right way.

That's interesting.
Do you ever listen to music to get your blood flowing or do you normally write in silence?

I tend to sing with the music, so I get terribly confused. I usually turn my music off while writing. But I found an app on my Kindle (it might be for apple products too) that you create a tune. It's called NodeBeat, and it's fairly simple. I can get a fast beat with a catchy tune going, or a beat with a slower tune. Sometimes I listen to that when I'm writing since there's no words to sing too...

Music is a major inspiration for me. If I listen to music with words, I often listen to it before a writing session to get myself jazzed up. Because I sometimes will just start singing the song while I'm writing and then not focus so much on the chapter I'm working on or I'll type out the lyrics! But I have found if I'm already in the zone, then lyrics don't distract me. When I'm first starting (or just looking for inspiration) I'll listen to music that doesn't have words. I have a crap ton of trailer music and movie music on my Ipod. Two Steps From Hell and Audiomachine do a great job! And Hans Zimmer. :3

Or if I'm working on a particular genre, I'll try to find a good movie or tv series or book of that genre and that often helps. The book I'm working on is Fantasy so I often turn to the books series A Song of Ice and Fire or the tv show of it Game of Thrones.

Overall, music is my main inspiration. :3

My recommendation? Because you go on breaks for so long, look up writing prompts or challenges. You don't have to write a novel about them, but write a couple of pages. This at least keeps your creative side going and it won't be so latent for such a long period of time. :3

Hope this helps!
