R'an sat on the edge of the Weyr bowl, watching as Syriacuth entertained himself as he ran around, stretching out the muscles he hadn't been using for a long time. The injury was now starting to really heal, the membrane is no longer torn in his wing, but the bones still broken. It would probably be another month or so before he could truly be healed. The young blue jumped up and balanced on his hind legs, watching whatever dragons were over them. 'Shells I want to fly!' He called out to his rider. He was ready to start flapping his wings. 'I know, but we have to wait. I'm not going to let you fly before your ready and have you crashing into the ground to get hurt.' R'an replied. He knew as a Sr. Weyrling, they would be learning about flying and all that from his rider and Syriacuth couldn't wait to get off the ground. As he flapped his good wing, he let out an almost bark of annoyance at the fact he couldn't yet flap the other one. He headed over to R'an, who had been drawing in his notebook and nudged his rider. 'You need to oil me again.' Syriacuth had been growing by leaps and bounds even with the injury. He was now close to that of a young horse, his great head nudging R'an's shoulder. R'an laughed and nudged Syriacuth back. "I oiled you an hour ago, I doubt you've dried out." He said outloud in a laughing tone. He ran his hand down the column of Syriacuth's neck. "Still wet." He gave the dragon a smile and rubbed over his eye ridges. "You're getting so big. I might be able to ride you soon. Or atleast sit on your shoulders." He laughed at Syriacuth's snort. 'I'm not letting you sit on my shoulders. You're heavy.' He pushed the boy's hand away and moved to sit down out of arm's reach in his way of telling R'an he didn't want to be touched. The teen laughed and went back to drawing, humming some as he did so to entertain himself.

Sharath and Amelia were walking the grounds, the miner on the gold's shoulders as they rounded a bend and found a young blue cavorting around the grassy plain. One wing was set in a brace and cast, held close to the body and it made Sharath trill a bit in sympathy. Hello young blue! Why is your wing broken? Breaking out into a trot, the queen made her way over and stopped alongside Syriacuth and R'an to peer at the weyrling's injury.
"Hey there!" Amelia called out, waving from atop the gold's shoulder, "I'm new here. Your boy alright? Lessons do a number on you?" It wasn't uncommon for youthful dragons to be injured during lessons.

Syriacuth nearly fell to the side seeing the large gold trot up to him and come closer to look at his injury. 'I was fighting with an Ugly to protect my rider. It bit my wing shoulder.' He replied as he stared up at the golden dragon. It was much bigger than he had ever seen. He really got to see his mother so this was sort of a first for him. He bowed low to the female, his custom, acknowledging his respect for her. 'I'm Syriacuth, who are you?" He asked as he slowly took steps back, she may have been a female and a Queen, but he was still not letting her get too close, especially with him injured.
R'an jumped abit as he saw the huge Gold and then Amelia calling out from her shoulders, Syriacuth hadn't even noticed her up there! R'an stood to see her better. "Hi, err yea he'll be fine, just a broken wing. The doctor says he'll heal in about a month or so and the membrane is already fixed up. The bones just have to heal." He called up to her. He had to put his hand up to shield it from the sun to see her. "I'm R'an, Can I ask your name?" He said politely.

Sharath arched her neck, a low purr of approval at the show of deference rumbling in her chest. The gold tilted her head as she replied, mental voice smooth, I am Sharath. Born of High Reaches but settling here. Is the Ugly encounter from the conflicts?
Amelia nodded, a sympathetic look upon her features as she regarded R'an, "That's no fun! You're lucky it's healing well then... I heard bones breaking like that can render a dragon flightless." She shuffled off of Sharath's shoulders and dropped down with her bonded's help to offer a hand to R'an, "I'm Amelia. Recently settled here! Any advice for life around here?"

R'an face dropped alittle at the mention of Syriacuth maybe being flightless. "I hope not... I don't want him to be stuck on the ground with no way to help..." He shook her hand after she had dropped down. "It's nice to meet you Amelia. And uh... I don't know, try to blend in?" He didn't really know about the politics of the weyr yet, he was still too low on the chain. "Where did you come from? Malvren?" Syriacuth bobbed his head, 'Uglies and bad dragons came here to steal people back and Mine went to stop them and was hurt badly. I helped keep him somewhat safe and was bitten.' He looked at his bandaged wing.

"Unless the healers have said otherwise, I think you're fine." Amelia responded, grinning. "Blend in? Maybe... I'm actually a transfer from High Reaches. Came here for a new start. What's it like around here? News of the conflicts only marginally soaked in up north, everybody wants to pretend nothing's happening down here but that's kind of silly." She made a face, "Is sleeping with a knife under the pillow neccessary?" She was only half joking.
Sharath rumbled again, Good. It's most important to keep Yours safe. How long until you fly Weyrling?

"Good." R'an answered with a relieved smile. "You're from High Reaches?" He grinned, Bitra may be farther away but they were still from the main continent. "Would you happen to have any news from Bitra Hold?" He asked abit eagerly. With his new firelizard, once it hatched, he would try to teach it to send messages. He wanted to hear from home. "That's where I'm from. And no I don't think sleeping with a dagger under your pillow is really necessary, at least not in the Weyrling barracks..." He trailed off some. "Really, we just try to go on like everything is normal, we keep an eye out for those revolution members and their dragons and a lot of people from Malvren are here so it's abit crowded..." He sighed. "I don't know, i'm really not one who listens to gossip."
Syriacuth gave her a dragon grin, "The healer told Mine that I would be out of the cast by the next month, but I won't be able to fly with my clutchmates." He dropped his head and his eyes whirled with annoyance, "I have to build up my wings first .'

Amelia nodded in confirmation of her origin then her expression fell, "I'm sorry, I don't. I rarely got outside the Weyr. If I do, though, I'll let you know!" She chuckled as he said a dagger wasn't neccessary, partly relieved for that knowledge. "Aah, I don't blame you really... what little I've heard has been pretty depressing. What sort of things do you do for fun? I'd offer to give you a ride on Sharath but if you haven't flown yet, I want it to be with your dragon first - there's nothing like it. It's like freedom."
Sharath gave a bob of her head, Yes. You must flap them a great deal, build up the muscle so you can soar. One month isn't long.

Syriacuth pouted as best a dragon could, ' It's forever' he commented as he laid down in the grass in the shadow that Sharath caused. Not close enough to bother him, but enough the sun wasn't in his eyes.
R'an sighed alittle, he couldn't have expected much, but it would have been nice. "Oh I have ridden on a dragon before, but I don't want to bother you to give me a ride. I am more eager to see Syriacuth rise in the air for the first time. With how he erupted out of the egg and has acted since. I can't wait to see how he flies." He grinned and tilted his head. "I don't know about what everyone else does, but I work when I'm not busy, Either I find things to do or I end up spending time entertaining him." He nodded to his dark blue companion. "Or I doodle abit." He sort of waved the sketchbook. "It's quite relaxing."

The gold whuffed her amusement as dropped her head low enough to nose the young dragon playfully, a motherly aura about her as she nudge him once, twice, then pressed a bit and went galloping off a dragonlength or so. She perked her head up and whuffed again, great golden tail swinging playfully. Well, you've still got four good feet!
Amelia was eyeing Sharath out of the corner of her and chuckled audible, rather amused by her dragon's antics. An adult gold, galloping around like a hatchling? Best image that week! If nothing else, Sharath was great with younglings.
"Active hey?" Amelia replied, turning back towards R'an, "That's always good! Blues are so acrobatic, I think you'll enjoy yourself. You draw?" She leaned in, curiosity piqued, "Are you from a Harper family? I'm from a line of Miners."

The nudge made him growl abit from the proximity, but seeing the gold dash off afterwards intrigued the young blue and he stood again, trotting after her in an unhurried manner. Her words making him feel much better and he flapped his good wing and moved closer to her. 'I do!' He said with a happy tone as his eyes whirled with the feeling.
"It's how I was raised, you shouldn't be dawdling when there's work to be done." He shrugged. "And no, my father was a laborer, helped put up walls and such and my mother helped in the kitchens. But yes I draw. Mostly doodles." He handed the sketchbook with many sketches of his room, Syriacuth, some of the eggs from the Kappa Hatching, of his firelizard egg, currently in his room, some of the other dragons around, even a few of his fellow Weyrlings.

She mrred happily, and flopped down into the grass alongside the young blue, tail curving around his opposite side to tap him on the shoulder. There wasn't much a gold could do to play with a blue without hurting him but Sharath was finding a way. What things do you like the most? Have you ever seen a river flowing underground? There was mischief in her voice as she poked a finger into the soil.
"Similar to me then... my parents were excavators." She took the sketchbook and gingerly leafed through the contents, pleasantly surprised by the work, "How long have you been drawing? These are pretty good!"

Syriacuth craned his neck to look at the tail then up at her. She was so big! 'I've seen a big river around here, but not underground.' He said, his curiousity peaked.
R'an blushed at her praise. "Been drawing since I was allowed to touch the slates... I'm glad you like them. I'm not sure I'm really all that good though."
