History: Nothing more than the son of a miner with few prospects other than following his father to the mines, Rillaren grew up in Nabol Hold around mines, whers, and Smiths. When he was 19 Turns, he took up his expected role as a miner. He met his wife, Valcea, around the same time, while she was an apprentice mining wherhandler studying at Nabol. The two fostered a strong relationship-- both romantic and working-- until she finally was granted her egg and the status of Journeyman. The first few Turns after Valcesk came into the picture, Rillaren followed Valcea to her assignment posting as a mining wherhandler for Telgar Hold. It was here that Rillaren began to learn the ins and outs of leadership, as his clever mind, devotion to hard work, and history as a miner and a descendant of miners won him friendships with the miners and the man who ran mining operations at the Hold.
Without a rank in a Craft or any real world experience, Rillaren was unlikely to get a position of power the way his new friend had, but the desire to lead and the certainty that he was good at it filled Rillaren. Since Telgar and Nabol were both well-set with their managers, and Rillaren didn't have the patience to wait Turns and Turns for someone to die or become incapable of filling their post, Rillaren talked it over with Valcea and the pair summarily decided to move to Halevin Hold on the Western Continent, where there might be opportunities for them there or, at the least, more space to potentially found their own Holding.
Luck has always been a sure friend to Rillaren, and Rillaren quickly became well-known among the average Holders and befriended Averiss, the son of Lord Holder Garriss. He came to know the family well over the next half-decade and the Lord Holder came to expect as much from Rillaren as he did from his son. During this time, Valcea also became pregnant with their first child and gave birth to a healthy, black-haired baby girl, whom they named Arcea.
When a tragic mining accident killed Averiss and left the Garriss with no heir, he formally signed the title off to Rillaren and spent the next five Turns teaching Rillaren everything he could about being a Lord Holder. When Rillaren was 37, Garriss began informally stepping back and allowing Rillaren to take on more of the Lord Holder's responsibilities. The result is that now Garriss is all but retired, a counselor to Rillaren when he needs it, and Rillaren is acting Lord Holder without "officially" having the title. The majority of the Hold accepts Rillaren as their real Lord Holder and Callia as the Lady Holder. They turn to their ruling pair with all questions, concerns, and needs. In spite of his knowledge of Lord Holding, Rillaren still approached the task with leading a mine in mind and, as a self-made man, approached-- and approaches-- most everyone on an equal level where possible. His intention was to earn the respect of his people, rather than seizing the power and demanding it.

Personality:
Physical Description: To look at Rillaren you might never guess that this is a veteran of the mines. Rillaren often dresses in clothing that can be considered serviceable, if well-made servicable. Loose trousers, a long-sleeved loose shirt and boots are his usual fare. These clothes hide the tight cording of muscles on his arms. Being somewhat fastidious with his appearance, he is only dirty when he has been caught just finishing or in the middle of a task with the miners, and you will rarely see him with tan lines, as he dislikes the sharp contrast between his lighter skin color and the tan he gets from working outdoors and therefore takes steps to prevent it. His hair is brown, as are his eyes, but the dark lashes framing his eyes are long. This is the only really feminine thing about him aside from his build, as his jaw and nose are both strong. He is used to smiling, either to be friendly or to cover up his true thoughts, and does it with aplomb. He stands at about 5' 10".
