..::First Trip to The Headquarters::..
Alexia half ran, half jogged-for there was a toddler attached to her left hand-a far distance behind the woman with the stroller. The child had been keeping far back for a little while, not wanting to be seen. Now she stood a few feet outside the door to catch her breath, the toddler on her hand trying to pull her forwards. A dragon statue hopped around their heels.
"Momma-lady too slow," whinned the younger, pulling harder but not getting any progress. "Want see. Hurry." One more pull and she managed to break free, running off towards the building without a backward glance. Her toddler legs couldn't take the speed and she fell just inside the doorway. She looked back at her sister, tears forming in her eyes.
Alexia rushed forward, benting down over her. "I told you not to run on your own," she whispered softly, gently helping the toddler to her feet. "Did you hurt yourself?" The toddler nodded and pointed to her knee. There was a small scrap near the tip, bleeding a little. "We'll get that cleaned up and put a bandaid on it, okay?" Another nod. Alexia held her little sister by her her uninjured paw and guided her into the buildings hallway. "Excuse me? Could I have a bandaid and the way to the bathroom?"
"CODYYYYYYY!!!! I'M GONNA KILL YOU!!!"
A golden-haired blur bolted into the baby-filled front room, a redheaded girl hot on his heels and shouting bloody murder. Ducking a huge black plushie thrown at his head, Cody skidded to a stop at the sight of Alexia and Lana, surprised and grinning. "Lexi? And Lana! Hi, guys!"
"Lexi?" Aeris - the redhead - paused mid-yell, wide-eyed and giggling as her anger was apparently forgotten. "Lexi! I haven't seen you in forever!"
Lana gave a jump of surprise, eyes gone wide. Within seconds this way gone as a huge grin spread across her face, the scrap forgotten for the time being. She didn't know this people, but who cared? "Hi," she called, louder than the normal voice pitch in her excitement of more kids.
The other also gave a violent jump of surprise, clearly not expecting anyone to come racing around a corner. "Hello, Cody. Aeris. Perhaps we should stop by more?" Apparently she, too, had forgotten Lana's cut at the sight of old friends. "I almost forgot. Do you have a bandaid? Lana fell down."
"Got boo-boo," the toddler finished, showing her knee.
"Awww, that's sure a nice booboo." Cody grinned cheekily, holding one hand over the toddler's scrape for a moment. Magic glowed pale green, and the cut vanished, leaving only a small dot of dried blood behind. Still grinning, the older boy scooped up Lana and tickled her stomach. "There we go! All better!"
Aeris laughed, shaking her head. "I'm glad you came - we missed ya."
"Boo-boo gone?" Lana whispered, amazed to see the magic. Her eyes went wider than they had before. Even up in the boy's arms, her eyes never strayed from her knee. "Lexi! Look! All better!" Another wide grin came across her face. "No bandaid?" she asked Cody, a bit disappointed.
"Than we should hang out outside of the HQ," Alexia suggested.
Aeris nodded. "We should - wanna go outside and see the mini-dragons? They're brooding!" Her eyes were bright with delight.
"All gone - but I'll tell ya what, Fuzzy." Cody ruffled the little girl's hair, grinning, and dug into his pocket to produce a rocket-decorated bandaid. "How's this?"
There was a thunderous shot, against the front door of the adoption agency. It sounded more like someone slammed into it, than a proper knocking. No second shot followed it though, no, there was silence after the loud noise.
And one small kid, pressed up against the wall to the right of the door, trying not to breath, so he could 'ambush' whoever came out the door to check on the noise.
About a good 20 yards off, was a man that had been here several times now, holding a small bundle in his arms, and seemingly unconcerned with the 'stealth attack' attempt that was brewing. No, in fact, he was smiling as he watched the kid get ready to pouce.
Lana let out a small squeal, taking the bandaid gleefully from Cody. Rockets were cool. They went boom!
"Brooding?" the child asked, tilting her head curiousily. "Sure." At her feet, Boo bounced around the children, excited over something.
Far off from the building, coming from behind some trees, was Hoshi. Or, the woman looked like Hoshi. Her skin was darker and her eyes taking the look an ancient Egyptian's did after make-up. And she had a pair of light grey, small, feathery wings on her back. But the rest was the same. Minus the little animal eared baby in her arms, it's head looking over her shoulder as she walked.
"It means they're laying their eggs." Aeris explained, realizing her friend might not know as much about the details of mini-dragons as she did. Then again, not many people knew as much about the various animals around here as she did. "They'll come into season soon and start hatching - " She trailed off as something slammed into the front door, startling all the babies into renewed bouts of screaming.
Cody blinked, hefting Lana to his shoulders. "Wonder what that was?" Glancing over his shoulder, he grinned at Mirelle, who looked ready to kill someone. "Hey, Mir, I'll watch the kids. You go strangle whoever's at the door."
Muttering an oath at her younger brother, the blonde snorted, striding over to the front door and yanking it open. "Who is it?" She demanded, one hand on hip as she glared at the apparently empty porch. "What the hell - "
Meanwhile, a small, fuzzy monkey creature perched happily on the roof of the porch, having escaped from Cody's trap and scrambled for cover outside. Curious, the little beast tilted his head to one side, watching Steve with interest. What was the little human doing?
Bam, as Steve saw Mirelle pop into view from his spot, he pounced. Sure, he wasn't that big, but Yamazaki had been teaching him all about taking on bigger enemies. Get them on the ground, you're all the same size on the ground. And thus Steve was in a full body, flying tackled to take out Mirelle's left knee from Mirelle's left side. "NIN-JAH!" he screamed out, wrapping his little arms around Mirelle's leg to help take her down.
Now, Yamazaki was laughing at this, openly laughing, thankfully far enough from the scene that the poor girl wouldn't know he was laughing. Yamazaki had a grin on his face, as he took a mental picture of the toddler attacking the giant, with a 'stealth battle cry'.
Once again, Lana jumped. And just like before, her startlement disappeared to be replaced by curiousity. She placed her hands on Cody's head, the bandaid still gripped tightly in one paw, watching the door like a cat watches a bird.
"Oh," Alexia replied to this, slightly embarrassed that she didn't know such a simple term. "I knew that."
Outside, Hoshi stopped ten feet from the door. This didn't look like a good time to try and go through.
WHAM! Startled at the sudden heavy weight that slammed into her knee, Mirelle stumbled, leg buckling as the joint was suddenly bent hard. Rolling with the motion, she ended up on her stomach on the porch, the enchanted gun she kept hidden at the small of her back out and pressed instinctively against the tousled silver head at her hip. "What the - "
Cody laughed, hearing Alexia's comment. "Don't worry, I didn't know what it was until Aunt Ri explained it to me." He grinned at his friend, then yelped as Mirelle fell, muttering a curse as he hurried toward the door with Lana still on his shoulders. "Mir, that's Stevie! Don't hurt him!"
YAAAAH! It was Cody! With a chittering squeal, the little Kinju monkey leap from the porch - directly onto Hoshi's head. Squeaking with faint fear, the creature scrabbled to a position hanging just behind the young woman's shoulder, small body between her wings as he peered out with liquid black eyes.
s**t. Yamazaki figured this would be okay, with all the chaos that goes down here, no one would take this to any offense. But seeing that pistol pointed at the young ninja, he was worried. He shifted Isys to his right arm, his left flashing out a knife, not much of a blade, but it seemed comfortable in his hands, and looked just about right to toss into someone's neck, should it be needed. Ever since that 'festival', Yamazaki had started walking around armed.
With his best authoritative voice, he stepped quickly up the walk and called, "Put the pistol away, before you do something foolish."
Steve had looked up, having taken the woman down, as per plan, he was going to continue his assault on Mount Mirelle, that was, until he looked up, and saw something pointed right between his eyes. He went crosseyed, staring at the barrel, blinking slowly, not knowing what to make of it. It didn't seem like much of a weapon, being lightweight, and not even pointy.
Hoshi, scared completely out of her wits, let out a startled scream, keeping her arms tighting around the baby so as not to drop her. The baby in question finding the monkey one thing, but the woman's scream too much, let out a wail of her own, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Lana covered her ears with her paws, eyes squished shut. "Ko loud," she said. "Too loud."
Boo, Alexia's small little dragon statue, made a beeline for the fallen people, his little sounds rather high pitched over the baby's crying. He ran around their legs, jumping when a knee got in his way.
"It's - yaaa!" Mirelle gave a startled yelp, eyes finally focusing on the little boy attached to her knee. "Sonofa - kid, where did you learn THAT?!?"
Flicking the safety back on, she stowed the gun away with a fluid, practiced motion, a surprised and embarrassed flush staining her pale cheeks. Hell, this kid was good - she'd never known another child his age to manage a takedown with that skill. Still trapped on her stomach, she grabbed the little dragon with her free hand instead. "Hush."
Cody sighed, rolling his eyes, then winced as the baby started crying. "Much too loud." He agreed with the toddler on his shoulders. Aeris - standing behind him - stepped up and gently touched the baby in Hoshi's arms. "Shhhh, it's okay. Nobody's gonna get hurt."
"Kohaku's an adorable baby, but really loud," Alexia told everyone, her own hands clamped over her ears, as well. Least Boo stopped. The dragon sat in Mirelle's hand, uttering soft little clicking sounds every so often.
"Hold her....uh.....seal skin so she can see it and she calms down," the woman with the baby said, pulling something grey that had slipped from Kohaku's grasp. "Here, sweetie." The little baby opened her eyes at the tugging, fixed on the skin, and clutched it to her chest for dear life. Her sobs stopped. She looked around at everyone else with a confused look, as if wondering what they were all staring at, resting finally on Aeris.
"Momma-lady has monkey," Lana announced, paws off her ears.
Hoshi twisted her neck around until her dark brown eyes rested on the creature huddled between her wings. "That's what that was," she sighed, smiling sheepishly at it. "Hello, there."
With the gun stowed, Yamazaki let out a sigh, his knife sliding back up the wrist sheath he had retrieved it from. He looked down at Isys, giving a little smile at the infant. She seemed so warm, delicate, and soothing. Odd to explain, but he always felt relaxed when he looked at her. "Steve... don't kill her. Take care of the kid, eh?" he addressed the downed Mirelle, giving her a toothy grin as he made his way up the walk, waiting behind Hoshi, letting her get inside before he barged in himself.
Steve was laughing, laughing, as the woman put the strange weapon away. He scooted up, sitting on the womans' back, his legs on either side of her, and his hands reaching out to firmly grip onto her hair. He seemed to think he was 'winning' the 'fight' after all.
Aeris laughed, plucking a skewed feather from her golden wings and waving it toward the baby. "Kohaku, huh? That's an adorable name. It fits." The Kinju, on the other hand, chittered rather sheepishly, turning his adorable eyes toward Hoshi and patting her face with one paw.
"Damn, I didn't manage that 'til I was a kid. Paid for it, though." Cody burst out laughing, shaking his head at the "someone needs to die" expression on Mirelle's face. "Stevie, you win. Get off before she explodes."
"Stevie?" Asked a voice from the door. Framed by the doorway, a familiar dark-haired little boy stood with Kirika, who was obviously wondering just what on earth was going on. Caz, on the other hand, blinked and grinned fiercely, running out to see his friend. Noticing the commotion, he gaped at his big sister, then the silver-headed Tenjutsu, looking awed. "You tackled Mirelle?!?"
"Oh, give it a rest." Mirelle grumbled. "What am I supposed to do? He's a kid, for cripes' sake. Snapping his neck is not a great idea." Damn, this was just NOT her day. Babies that didn't like her and threw things at her head, Miyu laughing at her - though that wasn't too bad, the kid was cute - a smart little squirt currently plastered to her back and laughing at her, being stuck on her stomach in the dirt, and her new halter top scuffed and probably ripped. At least it didn't seem like it could get much worse . . .
"My, my, mud-wrestling with infants?"
And now it did.
At the front of the walk, three figures had materialized in thin air, all of them female. The first two were familiar; Rune's older daughter (and Mirelle's quadlet) Rose, and her slightly-younger, demon daughter Ravenbrooke. It was the last girl that had spoken, though, her accented voice haughty and full of thinly-veiled scorn. Tall and elegant, her long dark hair was swept back with a selection of glittering jewels, and she was dressed in what looked like a cross between a dress and an Indian sari of red and golden-yellow. Moving forward with the grace of a dancer, she smiled smugly down at Steve and Mirelle, hazel eyes sharp. "How . . . quaint."
"Come on Steve, let the nice lady up," Yamazaki said, stepping around Hoshi, and giving the young tenjutsu a little waveof his hand. Steve grumbled, but slowly did was he was told, pulling hi8mself up off Mirelle. His fun was gone, gone! Then he saw Caz. Now Caz, he always seemed to have something fun going on, yup he did. Steve gave a huge, way too enthusiatic wave that seemed like it'd rip his arm off to the shaman kid.
"CAZ!" He trotted over towards the kid, stopping just about two feet from him, looking him up and down, almost as though he was sizing him up for something.
Yamazaki smiled, and offered a hand down to Mirelle to help her up, "Sorry about that, he don't mean no harm, just having some fun."
Ignoring the young woman in front of her - who, apart from wrinkling her nose at Stevie's "father," seemed content to laugh quietly at the group - Mirelle took the offered hand with a wry smile. "I'm sorry I grabbed for my piece." She looked somewhere between sheepish and amused. "Haven't had anyone manage a jump like that since this idiot," she motioned toward Cody, who made a face, "got to his kid stage. Didn't expect any of them to get it."
"Stevie!" Caz grinned and hugged his friend, then looked marginally embarrassed. "You got Mirelle - that's cool. Ninja-stealth!" Looking up at the laughing woman, he grumbled, eyes flashing. "Shisha." His voice was a whisper. "She's a JERK."
