Handler
Name: Jessan
Age: 35
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual (but seriously, don't put your d**k in crazy)
Rank: Green handler, Journeyman Healer - specifically an apothecary.
History: Natasa was born to a well-to-do family in Benden Hold. They were no where along the lines of Holders but her father ran a successful apothecary, enough to marry a trophy wife and have two fairly spoiled children. He had a temper on him though it stayed in the realms of storming out of the room until Natasa was seven and her little brother, Machi, was two. Their mother had long insisted her son to have something 'not quite right' about him. One night she took to her brothers room due to a storm. Machi hated storms. Instead, Natasa found her mother holding a pillow to her small, flailing brothers face. Being a child herself, Natasa could only scream - their father raced in and saved little Machi. Their mother was found dead in her bath two days later, badly beaten.
Machi latched on to his sister more than one should. He had gone from the quiet child with a stare to a quiet child with dead eyes and ... well, just creepy. Natasa takes care of him as a mother would, to the best of the abilities of a child herself. When she was 11, their father sent her to Healer Hall.
Once there, Jessan changed her name to Jessan on a lark. No one questions it and content in her new role, little Jessan goes about learning all she can. At fifteen, she discovered poisons. She heard about the less than reputable deals her father made before but never suspected until she saw one of the Masters tending to a garden of medicinal plants, some vegetables, and something else odd. He explained it. She demanded knowledge.
Along the way she terrorized people between her and what she wanted. She never poisoned them, though. Jessan walked the tables at twenty and transferred to Benden weyr. A few months later, Machi appeared. Their Father apparently kept up with his questionable deals. Machi wanted no part in it. He promptly Impresses Rhinth at the next Hatching. Jessan... well, Jessan had a nasty tantrum in the privacy of her rooms. Rhinth hates her, she hates Rhinth, and obviously it meant she had to get something better.
Enter Jessask. Jessan stole a ridiculously large wher egg from a Handler unaware that she'd put something in that drink of his. Bypassing all rules of being a wherhandler, she hatched the bloodthirsty green in the secrecy of her rooms. People were Less Than Pleased. No one could prove Jessask was the stolen baby - the egg looked big enough to be a gold, not a stocky ugly green. They helped her figure out how to handle Jessask. Jessan rubbed it in M'chi's face. (He didn't much care.)
Life continued to change at 21 when their father was arrested for assisted murder due to his backroom deals. When tried, they found him guilty and branded him as Holdless. She packed up her supplies and wher and went back to the Hold in order to take over the apothecary in his place. They assumed he went off to die somewhere in the rain of Thread some years later.
She has a pretty good business going on. A neighboring store taught her to grow her own tea. Jessan found tending to the plants outside of the typical medicinal to be relaxing and soon sold small amounts of it on the side of her regular stock. She stays in the Hold a good long while, Jessask at her side as a guard-wher.
M'chi alerts her that he did some Stupid s**t seven years down the road. Jessan once again packs up her things, sells the apothecary, and heads back to the Weyr. She brings some tea plants with her and other medicinal cuttings. She cleans up his messes as she did when they were children. Along with her move back, she managed to secure herself a plot in order to re-plant her items and, again, brought some good tea out of the ground.
Keller started blathering his things about equality. Always quick to latch on to an opportunity to garner some more power, she joins up with his ideals. M'chi is easy enough to convince once Jessan assures him the goldriders won't die (she hoped they would). When the Revolution starts, they take part of it. Jessask cuts people down and Jessan follows after, poisoning any survivors from the brutal attacks. M'chi protects her until he gets his eye an half of his face clawed off - he runs off with Rhinth in order to not die. Benden wins and she is triumphant. Eventually she meets and helps a young man named Lex - hello Lex. :]
Lex gets a wher. Once those fighting pits went up, Jessask became a fighting wher. Jessan likes to make some money by betting on her. She is still working as an apothecary and tea-seller, more than content with her place in life as a part of the Winning Side.
And that's where we are now.
Description: Jessan learned long ago that looking the way she wanted to led to nothing but suspicion; pixie cuts and form-fitted, exposing clothing were not the way of a respectable apothecary. In the last few years, she'd grown out her white-blonde hair to the middle of her back, thick and in intense waves. Easily tangled, it appears constantly twisted around a sharp and fox-like face. Jessan is not a delicate looking woman, her nose long and lips thin, eyes almond shaped and small, the color of a bright penny.
She wears makeup to hide the less than feminine features, such as lipstick to thicken her lips, eyeliner to make her eyes larger. Being a pale thing, even the slightest amount of color makes her look a bit garish.
Jessan has a very, very large chest. It's part of the reason her clothing is so modest; clothing that covers everything gives off the aura of innocence. She binds her bust, wears long sleeved dresses, even in the summer. Another reason for the clothing has to do with the deep burn scars along her arms and to her fingers; the scars themselves don't hinder her movement, at least not enough to keep her from Healing others when the need arises, but they are fierce to behold.
Personality: Again - don't stick your d**k in crazy.
Wolfs. Sheeps clothing. While Jess has the full range of human emotions, that doesn't mean she can't be a totally manipulative b***h. She keeps that part of herself to herself, thank you very much, as it is an unattractive quality in a lady and an apothecary, and she generally presents a gentle, empathetic face to the world, very good qualities for a lady and a therapist.
Jess-the-outside is sweet and compassionate, often offering a tender smile and speaking in soft, mild tempered words. Every movement is as feminine as she can make it, right down to how she serves tea, and she does her best to appear balanced and unthreatening. When speaking to another person, she is very attentive to both their words and how they make those words, giving them as much affirmation that she can that she is indeed listening. Jessan chuckles rather then laughs, and would apparently prefer to settle down with a nice cup of tea and a chat then anything else in the world.
Jess-the-inside is ... not so much that. She learned early on that people don't like to see past the masks of others and are genuinely upset when their assumptions are incorrect. She is well aware that she is petty, manipulative, and can be cutthroat when it comes to getting something she wants. Revenge isn't high on her priorities, preferring to do better and become higher up on the food chain than those who had insulted her. What better way to show you're better than by being better? She collects her darling little loves, the lost souls in the world, and she keeps them for her own. They are her pyramid of power and her reassurance she will not be murdered in the dead of the night.
With her control it also needs to be stated that Jess has never raised her hand to another person (or animal, or reptile, or whatever) in violence, nor does she intend to. She has, however, looted bodies, poisoned food and tea, and set other people on those she disliked. In the Revolution, she lowered her hand to force poison capsules down dying throats. In another life, perhaps she'd have been a "Godmother" of some sort - in this one, she prefers to make friends where required... the sort to back her up should something go Horribly Wrong. Those are the friends she will dote and love on, argue theoretical tooth and nail for. She has her favorites among the rabble and is quite sure there are one or two that would be upset should anything happen to her as well. Jess does not feel right when she has no one to take care of, be it a human or an animal. She needs to be needed, to be loved and adored and looked up to. Sexual relationships aren't a goal, nor are romantic entanglements, and they aren't even required to be willing to hurt people for her - she is just comfortable being able to take care of people. In her own odd way, she cares.
Also, she's an elitist. It's not about color status (that's just crude and barbaric) but rather about ability. You must be the best in your field, whether it's lying or seewing together a leg wound. Masters are better than Journeymen, murderers are better than thieves, and she is better than everyone else. As long as that's kept in mind, things are good to go. With the revolution at hand, her girl is a Master of the wherpit and Jessan not only reaps the marks when bets are made but she also has the status of the handler to a brutal wher.
She's here to help. Let her help you. She can make you some tea and the world can be good again.
Other: If you need tea, medicine or a good poison, she's your girl! Of course, the poisons are just rumors...
Wher
Name: Jessask
Age: 15
Colour: green
Description:Jessask is a low hanging, brutal, huge beast of terror. She is massive for a green wher, her shoulders heavily muscled and skull large enough to eat your entire family whole. No, seriously, it's the strongest part of her, teeth wicked and sharp, making her face look lopsided in the most frightening way possible. Her claws are long and heavy, most of her bulk in her front end, though her tail is still thick muscled and short, and her legs strong enough to keep up with the rest of her.
Her hide is a sickly yellow-green, undecorated save for the scars of a lighter green along her hide from fights. Jessan doesn't mind and calls her beautiful. Jessask is okay with this. While her wings should be large, they are very twisted and awkward, making it difficult for her to spread them.
Personality: Ever mix a honey badger with a female hyena?
Where Jessan is gentle, Jessask is ferocious, all claws and jaws, harsh teeth and a loud mental voice she does not hesitate to use. Her vocabulary is limited (or maybe she just doesn't like to talk to people) but what she knows and uses, she does to her best advantage. Jessask has absolutely no issues messing your s**t up and leaving scars to go with it. Or kill you, which doesn't usually happen as she tends to obey Jessan's firm orders to not kill - it causes undo negative attention. During the revolution, Jessan gave her free run of it, leaving Jessask to rip people apart in their slow walk through the Weyr. She delights in her new job in the wherpit, fighting and killing, chewing on prisoners and those that think they can battle her alone.
Jessask is a green and thus does not have any eggs of her own. Along the way, she picks up little whers to call her own, much like Jessan and her small posse of protectors. There aren't many - and fewer still alive - but the honey badger of a wher kills to protect them. Jessan is her treasure, her darling, something she would brave the painful rays of day for. Those Jessan likes, Jessask in turn does not try to kill. Her Runs are bloody. Her life is bloody. The world is dripping red and no one can wipe that away.
If you ask 'why is she like this?' just remember this vicious creature is A. bonded to Jessan (who likes and encourages vicious creatures) and B. is a wher based on the honey badger and dominant female spotted hyenas. Yeah. Yeah
