GENERAL
Name: Notaku (means growling bear) Illanipi (means amazing)Qaletaga (means guardian of the people)
Gender: Male
Birthday: September 28
House: Ravenclaw
Blood Status: Half blood
Wand: 11", hazel, unicorn hair
Wand Hand: Ambidextrous (uses right by default)

PERSONALITY
General:
Notaku is a very curious boy, while he knows rules are there for a reason he is still more than fine with bending or breaking them for the sake of feeding his curiosity. Like any Ravenclaw he's very creative and clever, albeit less commonly he's also very active, be it running around the school grounds or simply keeping his hands busy making bracelets while reading. One of his most common resources for learning around the school is the ghosts, finding them of particular interest when ghosts were far less common and kept more to themselves back home.

While he often reads out of habit, it's not one of his favorite past times, merely a means to an end to him. What Notaku truly enjoys about books is what they have to offer, because of this he would much rather learn from listening to someone reading a book such as on tape, or at a lecture where he has a chance to ask questions. This is also another reason he's fond of speaking with ghosts as most are eager to rehash their old days among the living. (One can always hope such information would useful in history lessons.

Back at home Notaku would often be found running in the forest, clambering over trees and learning from the forest as it were, picking up on things such as tracking, animal calls, and knowing which berries would give him diarrhea. Not every learning experience is a good one. Because of his comfort in the forest he often is happy to sneak into the forest whenever no one is watching, wanting to see what sort of different animals and plants there are compared to back home. Very rarely does he worry about what's in the forest unless he sees unfamiliar tracks or hears unfamiliar calls, while he may be dastardly curious he is also perfectly aware of when he should be cautious. After finding new tracks, however, he will often sketch them in a notepad he keeps in his back pocket, later looking them up in the library.

Notaku's other favorite place at Hogwarts is the lake, enjoying the giant squid and trying to see what else the lake hides. And, although the forest is far more interesting, he's more than happy sitting outside by the lake to study. Albeit, it's far easier getting away with dipping his feet in the lake than it is to sneak into the forest and almost as fun, the squid is seemingly fond of playing with little toesies twiddling in the water.

As his wand would suggest, Notaku is an incredibly loyal person, his friends meaning the world to him. Often times his ways of showing his care are either by making them bracelets or by trying to teach them about the ways of his people, because to him knowledge is the greatest gift he could bestow to show how much he cares.

Habits: Frequent shoe loss; often times he gets bored and fidgets with his shoes in class, nudging them off while he's thinking, slipping them back on, and repeating. Back in his tribe he rarely wore shoes when he could avoid it, as thus he rarely pays any mind to his lost shoes.(There must be somewhere a shoe collection....)
Hobbies: Reading, 'discovery', caring for animals, wood carvings, bracelets, animal impressions.
Likes: Learning, nature, exploration.
Dislikes: Ignorance, rules that limit him, SHOES.

FAMILY
Mother: Abeque Kuckunniwi
->Witch - Hufflepuff
Attended Hogwarts as a cultural exchange student.

Father: Yas Qaletaga
->Muggle
Siblings: None
Extended Family:
Grandfathers:
Dakota Kuckunniwi
->Wizard - Ravenclaw
Illanipi Qaletaga [Deceased]
->Muggle
Grandmothers:
Powaqa Kuckunniwi
->Muggle
Dyani Qaletaga
->Witch - Not Hogwarts
Relationship with Family:
Excellent. Notaku is very close with his family, even his grandparents that still live in Quebec he will often send letters to. His family holds up the 'traditional family values', albeit maintaining a bit of their own quirks, what with his mother's side and their history at Hogwarts.

HISTORY
General History:
While there are others schools Notaku could've attended, the offer from Hogwarts stood out above them, not only was it his mother and grandfather's alma mater, but it was all the way in Europe! Apparently Beauxbaton also made a similar offer to Métis children....which certainly explained why children occasionally went away for schooling. Prior to his 11th birthday Notaku was kept in the dark about his mother's nature, though he still was often taught what he thought was preparing him to be the next spiritual healer after she was finished. Under her tutelage he learned Herbology (Though exclusively with mundane plants), Astronomy, Divination (Although what he learned was very different to anything at Hogwarts), and to a degree Potions.

Although Notaku lives in Canada (BC to be precise) he still received an acceptance letter as a cultural exchange tradition upheld on both ends. The offer often goes to whomever the tribe thinks will make the best student and have the most to offer other students. Because of his family's history of magic on both sides as well as his mother's experience (Both at Hogwarts and as the tribe's spiritual healer) he had the advantage of experience. His natural curiosity simply ensured he would make an excellent choice.

Notaku's interest in nature comes from a purely social background, both his family and tribe instilled a great respect for nature and spirits in the children, and while others felt more dubious and took a more modern route, perhaps the magic in him steered him in the right direction. While he believed in things such as spirits (Or ghosts, rather) he never truly believed in anything more supernatural, having grown up with stories of Wendigos, the Basket Woman, and of course the Ogopogo....all seemed quite suspicious. Suspicious, that is, until he learned about magic. Things began sounding much more legit, leading him to listen far more carefully to all the old stories of spirits and Gods. When he goes to Hogwarts he's more than happy to share what he's learned from his people, of course not everyone takes the stories as seriously as he's learned to.

After he became aware of magic his relationship with his grandparents got exponentially better, he took to getting stories from them about the ways when they were learning. From his grandparents and his mother he has heard of many charms and spells he is thus eager to try his hand at.

MISCELLANEOUS
The Sorting:
The hat required little time to sort him because while he has traits that would be appropriate in any house it was perfectly clear that Ravenclaw was where suited him best. Like Hufflepuffs he is very loyal and close to his friends, valuing his relationships with them to no end. Like Slytherin he was quick-witted and ambitious, unwilling to let anything get in the way of what he wanted. Perhaps the least likely would've been Gryffindor because, while he is often known to rush in head first, he knows where his limits are and not to press a dangerous situation. After Notaku read up on the founders of the school and their values he found a certain pride to being in what he thought was the most well-rounded house.

Boggart:
What he feared.....what he feared.......what did he fear? Sure he worried someone might pass away in his family....but it wasn't like he seriously thought that might happen while he was away. And yes, brown recluse spiders wigged him out a little, but they weren't common in most places. And sure he was still always antsy when he saw a bear......but no.....he knew what it was. There were legends that dated before his tribe knew, legends of something so horrible he hated to think of it.

The red-eyed hound (suddenly missing its dripping fangs which had been oozing.....acid? Creative....) turned to him, swelling into a great, hulking mass. Antlers spread out behind its head, drooping decaying moss. He'd never seen any pictures, but his imagination was creative enough to come up with an appearance for the creature, even down to the hungry look in its eyes. Oh god.....would a Boggart take the traits of what it turned into? Would the creature he just summoned turn on the class and start eating people? Wendigo were known for an insatiable appetite for human flesh....once being human themselves but corrupted by doing something so heinous as eating another, even if it was necessary for survival.

"Ridiculous!" he cried, brandishing his wand in the most threatening way. Suddenly the startled Wendigo was holding a fresh green salad with a rather balked expression on its muzzle, almost as if it didn't know what to do with the leafy greens. As the next girl stepped forward he lost the Wendigo's attention, causing him to relax. He'd never known he would have to stare down a cannibalistic creature....even less had he expected in doing so he would need to imagine it as a vegetarian.

Mirror of Erised:
Sometimes rules had to be broken for the sake of learning, and he knew it was one of those times. Notaku knew he shouldn't be in secret rooms in the castle at the middle of the night....but he couldn't help it! He'd heard some Slytherins talking the other day, saying how certain rooms only appeared during certain times....well....he'd felt as though he'd explored enough of the school during daylight, he needed to know what the night hid from him!

With utmost stealth long-since mastered he crept down the halls. Not a sound....make not a sound until he found a new door. There was an ornate handle he didn't recognize from any other. He slowly opened the door, wary of rusty hinges or creaking floorboards. While he didn't mind rule breaking for the sake of discovery he was well aware the teachers were not impressed by his curious attitude, it was unlikely they would commend his interest in the school in such ways. Apparently he was supposed to be able to follow rules while still exploring....unlikely! How else could he have found out about half the creatures in the forest?

Notaku stepped into the room, a barren sight save a standing mirror, draped in a wizened rag. When he pulled the cloth free he started, snapping around to look behind him. Nothing there....? But he just saw.....his eyes roved back to the mirror to look it over again, placing his hand on it questioningly. No....that beautiful creature wasn't there. There was no unicorn behind him, ready to carry him off for an adventure deep into the heart of the forest. What a cruel thing that mirror was...regardless how much he wanted it, he knew damn well that unicorns rarely made friends with men.....how sad....he really would've liked having someone to keep him company on his escapades.

EXTRA CREDIT
Everything in this section is completely optional, but if you feel like going above and beyond the above required sections, this is for you! You can pick and choose which ones to fill out or not. Feel free to cut this section out of your form or just leave it blank if you opt not to fill it out.

Patronus:
When summoned his Patronus takes the form of an elk. Back at home he once ran afoul with a bear (Before he'd learned to track and know territorial markings) and quite fortunately for him an elk happened by, startling the bear and also earning its attention. Notaku stayed long enough to feel relieved as the elk knocked the bear back with its antlers and took off.

Greatest Treasure:
Rarely does it occur to him, but his greatest treasure is being able to attend Hogwarts. While there were alternative schools he could attend he finds a certain honor in being chosen to attend, knowing that it means he is not only an excellent student, but also naturally inclined to magic.

Manner of Dress:
Like a dirt-child. Notaku loves 'being one with nature' which often is pretty well equivalent to rolling down hills covered in dirt. Rarely does it bother him to have dirt smudges on his face, or bare feet, or even twigs in his hair from exploring the grounds. While he will often spend the day getting dirty he will always make certain he's clean before he hits the sheets, frequent scolding's from his mother has ensured that.

Favorite Class:
Without a doubt (At least until he can take Care of Magical Creatures) he favors Transfiguration, finding immense interest in changing the shape and even properties of two objects, albeit, by no means is it his best class. Because of his upbringing he is incredibly adept at Astronomy and Herbology, though it is likely he'll also find himself quite a natural with Care of Magical Creatures as well.

Worst Class:
His worst class is Potions as he has a predisposition for melting cauldrons. While it seems like something he would be skilled with, he winds up getting bored waiting for the perfect amount of time to have passed and instead starts reading or talking to others, often letting his potion boil over. His least favorite class, however, is History of Magic. History of Magic often implores a much more boring learning technique.....note taking.
