History: The Hadelleys were not a predominant figure in society, but they were influential in many ways and powerful in their own right. They stayed in the background, often unnoticed, far from helpless but preferring the obscurity to the public eye.
Mariah was born into this family on August 13, 1994, a Saturday, during a very heavy thunderstorm under a large oak tree. She came into the world buffeted by cold winds, harsh rain and had the picture of lightning flashing across a dark grey sky as her first sight of the world. She was the second child of her mother, who was part-Seelie and died on childbirth. Taken care of by her ancestor, Iskor the Wise— who was advisor to the Queen of the Court— until she was old enough to walk, she was raised as a human from the age of three until nineteen, when Iskor turned her over to her closest human relatives.
Her guardians, who were cousins of her mother raised Mariah in a wholly unrestrained manner, allowing her to form her own opinions and see the world through her own eyes, uncoloured by others’ views. As such, Mariah grew up open-minded, independent-minded and free-thinking. Throughout her childhood, she remained in constant contact with Iskor, who taught her various things such as healing, minor magic and the use of and communication with the natural world and proper societal manners and etiquette in both the Seelie and Human world. Upon her entrance into teenagehood, however, the contact was cut off and Mariah continued her studies on her own. With full awareness of the oddities concerning her upbringing, she did wonder where her true family was. Though the curiosity was furthered when she began schooling, Mariah was happy with her life and did not bother herself too much about her absent, immediate family.
Though not bullied to the extreme, Mariah was a peaceful and quiet-loving creature by nature and utterly annoyed with the vocal comments of her classmates, decided to enroll in the Atlantis Academy and embrace her ancestry and mature herself without opposition and scorn, as opposed to suffer herself to remain in the company of her ignorant, human schoolmates. Upon reaching the age of maturity, she packed her things, bid farewell to her beloved guardians and set out to achieve her current goal.
Weapons and/or Powers:
~Healing Magic- Able to call upon the Olde Magick of the Earth, she is able to channel its revitalizing and regenerating power, thus enabling and rendering her a capable healer. To do this, there must be earth present, and she must be in physical contact with the individual she will be healing. Minor injuries will leave her with shaky hands for a certain time. Any larger-scale injuries will leave her in need of recuperation.
~Olde Magick- Though not a professional or expert in the field, she is perfectly capable of using it to fight and protect herself at the very least. She is well-versed in its minor sections, and quite adept in Matter Manipulation, a field of magic similar to alchemy and Communication Magick, which enables her to 'talk' to things that do not usually have the capability to talk.
Personality: Mariah is neither soft-spoken nor shy. She is simply quiet and finds speaking unnecessary unless spoken to directly or when she deems it needed. She will come off blunt and antisocial at first, and she usually is, which does not help her situation in the least. Despite that, Mariah is a kind person and a good listener. An avid lover of food, she is unusually generous with her beloved vittles and will be the first to share her portion with those who want it. More of a listener than a talker, she prefers the background to the spotlight, as per her House’s tralatitious demeanour, is a writer, a closet pervert, a bookworm, sharp-tongued, witty, a pipe-smoker, an eccentric, a cusser, and a biter. Mariah is a master of her Zen and Inner Zen.
Character Flaws:
~Gluttonous- When it comes to food, Mariah is full of proper eating etiquette, but shameless in her portions and will not balk at the notion of offending with the amount that she eats. When it comes to cakes, pastries and sweet desserts, it will take a miracle to stop Mariah from eating until they are all gone.
~Rakish/Hedonistic- Mariah is uncaring of social etiquette aside from what is basely necessary and commits faux pases frequently to satisfy her desires, which may or may not be practical, depending on her mood.
~Hard- Mariah purposely remains an enigma. She finds it amusing to watch people try to puzzle her out or bring her under their ‘power’ and is always laughing at their consistent failures. It doesn’t help that she does deliberately, for her own pleasure and happiness.
Habits:
~Mariah is a dedicated pipe-smoker. Often in times of stress, she will be found with a pipe in her hand and a pastry in the other.
~She is always elegantly posed, giving off an air of snobbishness and superiority; back straight, chest out, legs crossed and hands folded on her lap with a calm, uncaring expression on her face.
Quirks:
~When angered or extremely annoyed or stressed, Mariah’s reaction will be to bite the said offender. She doesn’t know why. All she knows is that it’s more satisfying for her to bite rather than slap.
~Mariah has a tendency to indicate or point with her mouth, making her lips purse out, as if in a kiss.
Fears:
~Mariah has a developed fear of bugs ever since she found a dead woodlouse in her food when she was 5.
~Mariah fears starvation. Having no food is a concept unknown to her and, being a glutton, deems it completely unacceptable.
Aspirations: As a writer, she dreams of writing her autobiography one day and passing it on to her descendants as an heirloom.
Loves:
~Food. For Mariah, food is a god that can never be replaced.
~Frustrating people. She finds it funny when people blow up, but she won’t exert too much effort unless she thinks it could really be worth it. She’s deplorable like that.
~Sleep. Another thing Mariah will not deprive herself of without very, very good reason. It keeps her complexion amazing, improves her mood and makes her look great.
Likes:
~Books. Mariah will always have a book on her person.
~Showers. The feel of rain on her skin was with her since birth and it never left.
~Cooking and Baking. When not eating food, she will be making it.
~Pretty views. Being part Seelie has taught Mariah to appreciate the beauty ofher surroundings and often translates that love into words through the pieces she writes.

Describe your character's voice: Mariah’s voice is alto in tone, though on the higher side of alto, and is husky, rich and smokey. It has been described as suggestive.
Describe your character's walk: Her walk is elegant without being ostentatious, light-stepped and quiet. It is the walk of a learned woman.
Describe your character's face: Mariah’s face is well-proportioned and stately, made more striking my the shade of her eyes and the shape of her lips. It is an attractive face, if slightly more sharp than usual.
Describe your character's body: Tall, slim with a nice bust and a toned figure. Standing at 5’8, she cuts a formidable figure among the other girls her age.
Describe your character's style: Mariah prefers clothes that expose her legs rather than her arms, ergo shorts and short skirts. She will not wear anything trashy, no matter how revealing her outfit may be. She leans more towards heavier and darker-coloured fabrics and dresses in a formal manner.
Describe your character's posture: Ladylike and poised and has never been known to slouch. She is a noblewoman, after all.
Describe any physical characteristics you feel necessary: Mariah’s nails are always coated in a transparent polish— which may or may not be coloured— and decorated liberally with sparkles, and not glitter, which she finds uncouth.

"My ability to always keep calm in many situations. It’s very refreshing, watching people panic."

"Ah. Well. That would be my biting. People complain about that more than they do my other shortcomings."

"To confrontation? I would respond with a remark that would end the situation in my favour, or a derisive, ‘Blow me, you plebeian.’ To kindness, I will respond in like. I am not a cruel person, despite how I act. I simply prefer confrontation to be kept at a minimum."

"When it includes people’s reactions."

"I wouldn’t know. I’ve never had a tootsie pop, but I’ve been told I’m with good with my tongue."

"To be honest, nothing. But for the sake of the question, probably my smoking habits."
