» Sunaarashi o jōshō [砂嵐を上昇] (Rise Sandstorm):
By swiping his blade, Miyaji is able to cast a miniature sandstorm at his enemy. However, the skill is somewhat slow moving, but if one was to get caught, it would rip clothing, and leave deep cuts.
» Miteminufuri [見て見ぬふり] (Blind eye):
As Miyaji thrusts his blade forward, (nothing in front of him) a light sandstorm but huge sand storm surrounds his opponent. This ability blinds his opponent from a vision in an 7 feet radius.
» Sandofēzu [サンドフェーズ] (Sand Phase):
This is a passive ability that causes any physical attack to phase through him, this ability however, has a limitation of a few second interval (1 post) where he can be hit.

Bankai Abilities:
» Sunaarashi arīna [砂嵐アリーナ] (Sandstorm arena):
The battle field is now in the center of a sandstorm with a radius of about a quarter mile of free roaming space for combat.
» Suna no ken [砂の剣] Sand swords:
Swords made of sand form behind Miyaji pointing towards the target, and by will, can be shot nonstop. These attacks do not cause any severe damage but can cut away skin.
» Suna shōheki [砂障壁] Sand Barrier:
Miyaji can at will form barriers of sand in front of him to stop incoming blows. Only one can be made at a time. Each barrier takes about 2 seconds to form and only can deflect up to one hit.
» Sunaarashi no giman [砂嵐の欺瞞] (Sandstorm deception):
The sand within the sandstorm can form similar forms of Miyaji. These forms however, do not move. These 'clones' only are meant for confusion.
» Suna o yobikake [砂を呼びかけ] (Hailing Sand):
This is Miyaji's final, and devastating ability. Unlike the rest of his abilities that poke at his opponent and are used for defense, this ability is a full on offensive ability. In order to use this ability, the battle most go on for more than 30 minutes (15 posts). If not exactly 5 thousand of these balls from all over the arena fly at immense speeds at the target. Each ball has a diameter of 1 centimeter. There are only 3 ways to get out of this ordeal. 1, avoid getting hit by dodging as many as possible. 2, cut your way through as many as possible or 3, endure through the whole process.

History:
Miyaji was born into Soul Society and was once a below average Shinigami even within the 3rd division who couldn't even hold a Kendo stick appropriately. He was placed into the medical corps. His family although, all were in the 10th division. His brother as well as his younger sister. Outraged, Miyaji trained every night. He would take lessons from one of his closest friends, although was always Kenji, who was in the 8th division. Kenji's skills were amongst the elites of the 8th division. Miyaji had always felt honored to be tutored by someone of such high ranking.
One night, when Miyaji was going to meet up with Kenji for a drink, something had not seemed right. Kenji appeared with his zanpakuto instead of his everyday kendo stick. Miyaji took another look at his friend and to his horror, saw blank white eyes surrounded by yellow. His tongue was hanging out of his mouth like a snake finding it's prey. "Kenji ... is that you?" Suddenly, the instructor lunged at Miyaji with a swing after another. Only dodging each swing by a hair. "KENJI!!! STOP!!!" however, the attacks were only getting stronger. Miyaji was backed up into a corner, and a menacing laugh came from his friend.
"Die!!!" The monster once known as Kenji swung at full speed. With no where to go, Miyaji stared helpless with no where to go.
'No ... this isn't going to end this way ...' Suddenly a bright flash of yellow light formed, and a clash was heard. In the hands of Miyaji, was a golden yellow zanpakuto. Astonished, Miyaji was frozen, amazed by his sudden zanpakuto. The monster however, didn't hesitate and swung the death blow straight down towards Miyaji's head.
Seconds past ... Blood was shed... A katana had gone through a friend's chest. 'Sunaraashi' had caused the blade to phase through Miyaji's body and into the ground below him. Instinct had brought the golden katana into the teacher. After that, everything went blank.
"KENJI!!" Miyaji woke up in the infirmary. Everyone had their heads down, suddenly the lieutenant came up to him.
"Kenji was being manipulated by a hollow... but you managed to kill it."
"I don't rememb-" Miyaji stopped, he then remembered what had happened. Everyone nodded as they understood that he remembered.
The lieutenant handed Miyaji a red Cat mask along with a letter, "He wanted me to give this to you."
The letter read, "If anything were to happen to me, I want to let you know you're just like a little brother to me, and I know you can get stronger, even without me. I took it upon myself to take this certain mission, and if I don't come back, I want you to have my mask. Get stronger! I'm confident you can get to Captain level!"
Years passed by after that, Miyaji became stronger and eventually, the 8th Division Captain title was given to him as he mastered his bankai. He had become the captain of the 8th division for his lost friend. He didn't let his friend's training go to waste. Everything became serious.
