In this role play, we'll be using a stats system to help us understand each character's physical and magical power, physical and magical defense, and their speed.
StrengthStrength and Magical Strength will help us understand exactly how much power your character has. Physical strength depends on your character's natural strength (as in how much strength they initially have) plus the strength of whatever weapon they're using. So, for example, say my character has a base strength of 10. So if he attacks someone else, that's the most damage he can do to them in one hit. But then, say I equip a sword that has a strength of 20? The sword's strength plus a character's natural strength is what his total strength will be. Now, my character can deal 30 damage in one hit. Getting the hang of it now?
Now, magical strength is somewhat the same as physical strength, but more simple. Unlike physical strength, magical strength does NOT have a base stat. In other words, characters don't have a set amount of magical strength like they do physical strength. We calculate magical strength based on the magic the character is using. For example, say I have a character who uses magic in a fight. Well, each spell has a certain amount of strength. Say I were to shoot someone with a fireball with a magical strength of 10. Well, that character would take 10 points of magical damage (they'd lose 10 HP) unless they had some kind of magical defense to lower that.
DefenseDefenses is where it gets fun. This stat will reduce the total amount of damage you take when attacked. For instance, if I used my character that could do a total damage of 30 points, but you have a defense of 18, then you'd cut down the total HP you'd have lost to 12 instead of 30. See where I'm getting at?
So having more physical defense means you'll take less overall physical damage.
The same goes for magic defense. So, if a character casts a fireball at you that can do 10 damage, and your magic defense is 6, then you only lose 4 HP instead of 10 HP.
However, this part is important, so I'll highlight it.
Magic Defense ONLY blocks magic strength, and Physical Defense ONLY blocks Physical Strength. So if someone shoots you with a fireball that does 10 damage, and you have 8 defense but 0 magic defense, YOU STILL TAKE 10 POINTS OF DAMAGE. Your 8 physical defense would not change the amount of damage you take if it's magic damage, and you have 0 magical defenses in this situation. You understand, right? It's pretty self explanatory.
SpeedNow, Speed is the last important stat we'll talk about. Speed determines you're maneuverability and affects how many times you can attack per post. At 5 speed (The base stat) and lower, you will only be able to attack once in each post. But at 10 speed, you can attack twice; 15, three times; 20, four times; and so on.
However, know that Energy will still be consumed from energy based attacks, so be sure not to use up all of your energy in one go.
The second benefit speed will give you is the ability to dodge. During your average battle, you can only dodge up to 5 times throughout the whole battle (See the
Rules of Battle page for more info). However, if you're speed is high enough, you get an extra dodge for each battle. And this benefit works the same as the attack amount benefit. For every 5 points in speed, you get 1 more dodge chance (at 5 and lower, you have 5 dodges; at 10, you get 6 dodges; 15 you get 7; 20 you get 8; etc.).
