Think of the comparisons between internal and external. When we work with a deity, read cards, or do anything else involving that of spiritual nature. It is a reflection of ourselves. How do we know when it exceeds what is within ourselves? When it is so profound and you are aware of yourself that you know it came from an outside source because you could sense it. Then, you are working with an external force outside yourself even if that external force is a reflection of yourself in some ways. This is because we are all reflections of each other to a degree. Add in the complexities of telling the difference between thought forms and spirits and you enter a whole new ball game.

Ultimately coming down to the simple but aggravating answer, "Learn to be able to trust your intuition"
