On the surface: For one in quite the literal ghost town, Erin is actually quite happy and energetic compared to others around him. Well, save for when he tends to the graves of Pokemon. But, he can't help it if everyone has decided to stay in the past and woe about the misfortunes the town had once faced. Sure, it is alright to grieve when something happened, but you have to move on. He was able to, and he had seen worse. Though, everyone around him seems to think otherwise. Oh well, he can't do anything to change their minds. When he'd not tending to the graves of Pokemon, Erin is off doing other things, like taking care of the Pokemon in the house Mr. Fuji had once lived in. But that's about it for his daily life, a repeating and never ending cycle. Though, at his age he doubts he can do much of anything else now. After all, traveling the world is something a young teen would do, not a young adult. Though...perhaps one day he could leave this old life behind. The only problem would be finding a reason why...
But deep down: Erin was very enthusiastic as a child, no matter what the circumstances were around him. In fact, it was probably this oblivious nature of his that kept him safe from the lives other residents of the town lived. He was a blessing, but blessings always came with curses.
As a child growing up in Lavender Town, he was always curious about the legends and myths of the Pokemon Tower that was always close to his house. But of course, his parents would never allow him to 'stray too far from the nest'. He was only allowed to observe the tower from afar, and always imagined what it would be like inside of such a creepy and suspicious building when he was outside and playing. After all, he initially had thought that the whole 'Pokemon graves' thing was a lie, believing that his parents only used such a tale to scare him into not wanting to leave the home. Of course, being how he is, that made him even more interested in going inside. And one day, he would.
But at a cost.
It had been a quiet night in Lavender Town that fateful day, when Erin had stumbled out of his home as a simple pre-teen. His faithful Abra companion at his side, the two went up to the large building and stared at it in complete awe. This was it. His opportunity to see if everything was true. They ventured forth, into the tall and mysterious tower without another glance back at the world behind them. Though if they did, they would have seen that they were not alone. The sight beheld by Erin was shocking, gravestones all around but with no markings, as if whatever was buried underneath each one was to remain a secret. He didn't mind though, as he personally felt it was best not to know what was under them. And that's when something caught his eye. A Pokemon, one with a skull over it's head as a mask. A Cubone. His steps were careful, as to not startle the Pokemon, but it had already seen him and ran off, up into the tower. Abra became rather nervous at this point, but Erin was thrilled at the idea of a chase. So he ran after the Cubone excitedly, never once hearing the footsteps that were behind him...
The two traveled upwards into the building, until they finally got to the top. And when they did, they were rather surprised. The Cubone had been hidden behind another Pokemon, a Marowak. And the Marowak did not look too pleased on their intrusion. But before she could attack the young boy and his Pokemon, an explosion had sounded that rattled the tower. Soon enough people were rushing into the building, ignoring Erin but immediately going for the Cubone and Marowak. It all happened so quickly, a sight that should never be seen by a child's eyes unfolding before him. But it was too late. Enraged, Erin went forward, clinging onto the Cubone as it let out a shrill cry of horror and trying his best to stop whoever was trying to take the Pokemon from doing so. And before the grunts could do anything about it, Abra had teleported them safely out of the tower.
Once safe, Erin and Abra, with Cubone in tow, all rushed off to the nearest house they could find. Mr. Fuji's house. Thankfully he was in at the time, and was told the story by a panicked Erin on what he had just saw. Mr. Fuji had listened and told them to stay there, leaving and going up to the Tower himself. Unfortunately that didn't work out well, though eventually a trainer was able to help him out and get the mysterious team of people out of them, later to be revealed to him as being Team Rocket. It was then that his hatred for Team Rocket began, but when his passion for taking care of and better valuing the lives of Pokemon began. And he would never stray from that path.
Thus, Erin began work young at Mr. Fuji's Lavender Volunteer Pokemon House, along with working in the new graves that were made once the Pokemon Tower was converted into a Radio Tower. But, he mostly works there to keep up with Cubone and make sure the Pokemon is alright. He will never forget what he saw that day, but he will also never let it hold him back. Though, the dedication made him miss out on his chance at leaving Lavender Town to explore the world of Pokemon, he now has a dream of leaving this dead end town one day, and hopefully with both his evolved Kadabra and possibly the Cubone at his side.
