I wouldn't call the mammary glands useless. They do serve as an important source of food, for those who doesn't have a digestive system that can handle a larger variety of food yet. At least up to some point of their growth, prior to the time those people can be better evaluated as either still useless or not so any longer.
There's also the arguments 'bout them being nice to touch and/or watch. But those arguments are less related to being practical. User Image
