However, we we're wrong. The virus changed him, letting him forming weapons of mass destruction from his very limbs and access to abilities mere humans find impossible. We have tried many options to stop him, but one by one they all failed. Our last resort, a nuclear warhead, also failed to kill him but had disappeared. 2 years later, the virus was unleashed once again by the same guilty party; Alex Mercer. All of New York was infected in some degree, renaming the isolated islands "New York Zero." However, in the process of these events, another carrier of the virus fought against both Blacklight and Mercer; James Heller. Finally, they clashed and fought furiously. In the end, Mercer was consumed by Heller, finally purging the Blacklight Virus from the Red Zone. After these events, James Heller, his daughter Maya Heller, and the remaining relative of Alex, Dana A. Mercer, disappeared completely. The year is now 2013, and there have been rumors and sightings matching the descriptions of the Blacklight virus years before, in multiple locations across the globe.
