Fel Essence:

A Non-Jumping Jumping Cholla
Jumping cholla, or Cylindropuntia fulgida, is a type of cactus growing in the Southwestern United States and Sonora. It is treelike, with one main trunk, and then branches off. The jumping cholla has fruits that hang down off of this trunk and grow in chains, earning this plant one of its other names, hanging chain cholla, and has pink and white flowers. The spines of the jumping cholla have microscopic backwards facing spines on them, which make them difficult to extract if they become embedded in skin. The name of the jumping cholla comes from the fragility of the cactus' stems; sometimes, a mere brush is enough to detach it from the trunk, which can make it seem as though the stem jumped, and mere touches result in bits of cactus clinging to clothes. That's where this bit of a jumping cholla is different. Not only was it resistant to brushes or even firm touches, but it was clear that this cactus didn't want to be broken apart. When they attempted to remove this fruit from the branch of the cactus, no man seemed to be strong enough (or brave enough - the spines on it, too, were resistant to removal, so any embedded spines had to be yanked out immediately) to do so, and the cholla even managed to blunt two or three sets of shears before it was finally hacked off.

Growing Gems
Jadeite is ordinarily a fairly hard stone; it's ranked at a 6.5 or a 7 on the Mohs' scale, so equivalent to other gems like opals and peridots. One rock of jadeite located fairly deep within a cave continuously grows and snaps off jadeite crystals of every shade. Holding the green (and lavender, and red, and --) crystals, you may think you have a steal... But instead of standing up to pressure, they cut with a butter knife and you can easily scratch them with your fingernails. These stones are beautiful and quite fascinating - but also completely worthless for any gemworking.

A Texas Dall Ram

Actual Tierney Actually Doing Stuff:

Name: Tierney
Gender: Female
Appearance: andro andro andro
Likes: pink, though every colour - twilight - "chick lit" - sparring - having company - audiobooks - functional clothing
Dislikes: being alone - the dark - boring books - pure silence - being assumed to be stupid - being called a boy -
Personality: violent | ordered | determined | stubborn | dominant | family/flock oriented

If you went to Tierney expecting stereotypical femininity, you'd be far, far off base. If you looked at Tierney and expected her to reject everything feminine on the basis of it being feminine, you'd be far, far off base. Tierney isn't feminine, no, but neither is she masculine. She enjoys what she enjoys and that is that. What she won't take - not ever - is being called anything less than a girl or a woman. She is a woman, she is a girl, and she won't take anything less. While other women might ID as tomboy, Tierney doesn't. She's not Tom, nor is she a boy - and when she learns the connotations of tomboy, she won't be any happier.

She doesn't quite understand why femininity has to be so consistently and thoroughly qualified. Why is the only way to be a girl to wear skirts and paint your nails? Those things are nice but... Well, one, she doesn't have any hips for skirts and two, painting your nails just takes so long! She's a girl even though she wears t-shirts and has ragged, dirty nails; she's the same amount of a girl who does paint her nails and wear skirts because that's not how being a girl works, it's not something you can put in a number.

Tierney is a rather violent soul, though, born from the urges of her soul. She wants to be the dominant personality in any group and sometimes will go about this in an overly literal way. If she has horns, she'll use them exactly like rams do - to exert dominance in headbutting battles. If she doesn't, she'll go more for a wrestling route. She thinks that she needs to be - and, more importantly, is - the dominant flock member of any group of people and it just says Awful Things About Her if she isn't. As such, she gravitates to weaker willed or more passive people who don't contest her dominance and prefers them.

NAME : Aindreas Byrne
GENDER : Male
AGE : 34
OCCUPATION : Police detective
RACE : Human; Irish, mostly.
LIKES : A rewarding day at work, showers (whether hot or cold), the good kinds of coffee, being active.
DISLIKES : Bad coffee, a day where he goes home feeling like he managed to accomplish nothing, otherwise wasting time, sleeping in.
LOOKS : Aindreas is a tall man, at about 6'2. He isn't exactly built or overly muscled, though he's got a sort of lean and sinous muscle from years on the police force. He has dark red hair that looks brown in most lights, along with green/hazel eyes. He rarely grows a beard due to not liking the way it looks on him; he feels that his jaw line doesn't stand out enough. His usual attire is a button down shirt (occasionally with an atrocious pattern), slacks or jeans, and loafers, a wardrobe he picked up from years on the job.

PERSONALITY : Aindreas tends to be a fairly warm guy; he always has something good to say about others and tries his best not to be a downer no matter what he happened to see at work that day. However, as is common in long time cops, Ain frequently battles darkness in his heart. He's seen how disgusting the world can be and what depths people will go to, and he'd be a liar if he said it didn't kill a part of him or if he said sometimes it still doesn't surprise him to see such depravity. Having no one at home to console him, Aindreas sometimes goes through periods of depression, though he doesn't let anyone see this.

As said, Aindreas is fairly friendly - because of this, he tries to hide his darkness for others and will disguise a frown or downer comment with a smile or a joke and is incapable of admitting that sometimes he needs help, especially because he fears forced leave from work.

Though Drey tends to be very laid back, his cop-mode can be switched as necessary and he will exert as much force as necessary to control the situation.

In his free time, he tries to take advantage of every moment, wanting to live life to the fullest. He hates wasting time and being inactive, so most of his hobbies outside of work involve playing sports. He's particularly fond of and good at tennis, though he feels that doesn't sound very manly.

HISTORY : Aindreas' family is average, his mother and father together, along with his fraternal twin brother Eirnin. Like most little boys, Drey had the desire to be a superhero or a police officer (whichever came first), wanting to be famous... and to protect people, though the latter was probably less important than the former. He was fairly intelligent (though Eirnin was smarter) and was capable of dedicating himself to his schoolwork, which led to him being accepted to college fairly easily and with a fair amount of money in scholarships. However, unlike most boys who aspire to be a policeman, Drey truly went for it. His degree in college was for criminal justice and he spent his college years working with police and fire departments, wanting the experience it gave.

When he graduated, he found a job in the police department fairly easily due to the qualities and relationships he'd established and spent several years working his a** off in order to save up money to afford an average sized apartment on his own - and this hard work, though it was meant to save money, ended up getting him promoted to detective much faster than he might have otherwise, a position he's lingered in for years.

He lives alone, still, with no significant other. Aindreas is frequently alone, though he and Eirnin are still close and see each other as frequently as their professions will allow. However, because he's alone, his apartment is frequently in a state of utter disarray.
