I dislike America. :

I don't agree with the government, the people [for the most part] and I simply can't stand certain accents. && A lot of people are fat in the place I live.

In English class we watched this movie called "American History X". It was clearly about racism in America and it was very good. Now I have a question for anyone who has seen it; is it really like that in America? Are there people claiming that black people have criminal genes? Do some racist people really destroy stores owned by non-white people? To me it's all madness! It's so childish... Grow up, racists! No one wants you the way you are.

I hope I'm not overly offensive or anything, that was not my intention. But I got very angry when I saw the movie, so I had to take it out by perhaps discuss the movie with others.

Oh yeah, I'm thinking about moving to America in a year after graduation and study. Preferably on the West coast, like Seattle (or Vancouver) or somewhere in California. smile Do they have good universities there?

It depends on where you go for extremist areas that were portrayed in that movie, but to be honest a lot of things will go amiss that the general public is not aware of as things tend to be kept secret in smaller areas.

Typically rural areas and small towns will have that as a possibility. Now mostly it is passive racism in many smaller areas.

As far as universities go, you will find good universities just about anywhere. Seattle has a good university, and UCLA is know, however those universities will be very expensive compared to nice colleges in the Midwest.

There are people from all over the world and many who come where I live to go to school here from the West Coast.

As far as America goes, there are so many good things and bad things with this country. I like the fact that we have a lot of diversity and things from all over the world. And while sometimes it can be very Americanized, it still gives you a taste for the real thing.

In all honesty I get a little annoyed with people saying they hate this country when they don't see the good things and only see the bad. That's just a general statement and not directly related to anyone.

Racism is America is a huge problem that mainstream society tries to ignore. I live next door to a white woman that doesn't like it that my parents have bigger house than her. There isn't really any out right burnings and stuff like that but racism is still there but they try to be subtle about it most of the time. Don't think racists are confined to the south either, they're everywhere.

Also I just have to say the "melting pot" is a crock! In fact, the constituation was made for rich white males and nobody else and the men who wrote it were hypocritical bastards.

No we don't. mrgreen

xD Possibly, American culture isn't as interesting to a lot of people because they either ARE American or hate America (or a combination of the two).

Basically in my point of view, is because America hasnt a single drop of culture, its just a great mix of many people besides americans that go to a single place.

I find even more interesting the culture of France, Mexico [native country], Argentina, Brasil, Japan, China, etc. Besides the culture of USA or UK. Also if you think well, the people of USA dont have a nationality, you call them "americans" but america is the WHOLE CONTINENT, in other words, canada is american, mexico is american. But the funny thing is that USA doesnt have nationality, example:

Mexican = American [Because if from the continent of America]
Canadian = American
Brazilian = American
[USA people] = American << See?

Also you cant call them "North American" because Mexico and Canada are also North Americans.

Dave
We're incredibly diverse, actually.

"Melting pot," and all that.

Liar xd !!! No, seriously, the term "meltingpot" make it seems like all cultures blend completely together. USA is more like beef stew, there's lots of stuff in there but the beef is the only thing people really care about.

I've pondered this issue for a while now, what exactly should we call ourselves? I draw a blank. Also, for people to say America has no culture is alittle absurd. I think people think to strictly of culture. Culture means food, clothing, and such, but it's also little things like behavioural mannerisms, social rules for courtship and dating, how confrontation is handled, gestures, all those things that help people live togethor without killing eachother.

Everything has to come from somewhere so if people get mad at America for being a meddly of cultures, then noone has a culture. And noone complains about Roman culture, even though they ripped off Greece and Egypt. Lots of cultures get things from everywhere, where does it end? I think people complain because it's cool.

Woohoo, America.
We've taken the country over and exiled the natural inhabitants.
aren't we great =|

But really, i live in Georgia and its okay.
I dont like the government, and i've considered moving to my fiancee's home country of England.

Our government doesn't take care of us the way theirs do, here you must have insurance from a job, there anyone can visit a doctor and get help they need...

But its too expensive to live there and i want to take care of my parents.

I love america confused Why again do people hate us?

Though I don't like the government... -.-

Off topic: Just to clear things up, The untied states of america has 50 states, 48 continental, Alaska, and Hawaii. There are also 5 Territories claimed by the USA: The Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Micronesia, Guam, and American Samoa. The capital, Washington D.C. is not part of maryland. It has it's own little territory called the district of columbia.

I wouldn't necessarily say "they hate us" (with the exception of certain countries you know for sure hate us) but more along the lines of just general disdain or indifference... Because we're all over the media, often with bad news in toe, or some sort of stereotype that they think makes up over half of the United States. (And sadly enough, some do.)

This is especially true for anybody who hasn't really even been here. (although not everyone. I have a friend in Dijon, France who never jumps to conclusions- when we do talk, he'll ask questions about the USA, which I do answer, in full. I'm appreciative of people that ask for facts before making assumptions.)

A lot of the stuff about us is probably blown outta proportion (Except for the ...Y'know. Corrupt government and fat people. And racists. But there are racists all over the world, really. yes we do have a lot of these things.). Then again I'm not sure what other countries see about us to make them think the way they do.

To be quite honest, I still love my country, so yes, I'm going to be a bit biased on grounds that I was born here. I don't quite love its history (At all, to be honest.) , or a lot of its policies, but I love seeing improvements when I can.

While it may not have too much culture set in stone that originated on its soil, the US still has quite a ways to go- It's a young country compared to so many others out there, after all.

...I'm still down with moving to Canada at a second's notice at any given time, though. ninja

I see. I don't really like our history either, too many wars. Though I do understand WWII. the Japanese had it coming when they bombed pearl harbor. (Nothing against Japanese people, of course, it wasn't you guys who ordered the attack) and Iraq. They bombed the twin towers. I was intensely scared when that happend because we had gone on vacation to new york and I was actually IN the world trade center the week before it was blown up. (And I'm with ya on the canada thing pirate )
