[ The Basics ] xxxName:Cain xxxNickname(s):--- xxxTitle:The Trickster xxxGender:Male xxxGeneration:One xxxDate of Birth:June 28th, 2012 xxxColorist:sesshy552 xxxObtained:Custom
[ The Details ] xxxEye Color:Blue-Gray xxxHair Color:Black xxxHeight:16.4 Hands xxxSexual Orientation:Presumed Heterosexual xxxRace:God of Mischief and Trickery xxxTemperament:Arrogant xxxAlignment:Neutral-Evil xxxBuild:Quarter Horse xxxVoice:Deep and slightly gravely, sometimes sounding like a growl.
xxxHopes: xxx• Being born of the very earth's rage, Cain finds that he is at odds with himself in many cases. One such is his desire for purpose. Despite his fear xxxof not being in control, Cain wishes to know his true place in the world. He knows, however, that this will result in his having burdens and duties to xxxweigh him down, and as such, he does not seek it. xxx• Above all else, Cain wishes to remember his old life, and to find his the friend that he knows he has lost. At the same time, however, his past xxxterrifies him, and creates a very clear sense of hesitation for him. He only wish to know where his friend is, and nothing more. xxx• Selfishly, Cain wishes to regain his sense of happiness and his ability to feel pleasure and enjoy the world around him. Being numb to everything xxxexcept pain, fear, and sorrow, he desperately searches for the slightest twinge of joy, and clings to what he thinks will provide him that, and what xxxhas reliably provided it before. He resorts to mischief and trickery in an attempt to elicit these emotions, and does not understand why they seem xxxto fail.
xxxFears: xxx• One of Cain's biggest fears is to be controlled. He must be in charge of himself at all times, and in charge of the situations he inflicts upon others. xxxFor these reasons, he is extremely unlikely to bond, or even find a mate. xxx• Though he wishes to find his friend, he fears what he does not remember. His past is a haze, mystery cloaked in shadows, and though he will use xxxit to find what he has lost, he does not look further into it. Somewhere, subconsciously, he knows that he is responsible for something terrible, and xxxwishes only to bury that and live his life out within the mortal realm free of worry.
xxxArroganceCain is confident to a fault, and this coupled with his poor social skills makes him extremely arrogant. He does not seem to know the meaning of the word 'humility', and where some might filter their pride, Cain knows no such barrier. Boasting is one of his favorite pastimes, and exaggerating the truth seems to come as easily as breathing to this hot-headed Azrein. He does not, however, bumble. His charisma alone often allows him to ride on the coat-tails of whatever story he's fabricated, though some of the more shrewd Azrein need to be... coaxed into his hijinks.
xxxSelfishnessBeing a god, Cain feels that he is entitled to many things that, in reality, he has no claim to. Simply put, sharing is not one of his strong points. He is more likely to blatantly eat the apple you just asked for than take the time to split it and give you one half. It's less that he doesn't care and more that he thinks what's his is his, and no one should ask anything of him, or from him. If they want an apple, they can get their own. Asking for his help is pointless, and as far as he's concerned, selfish on their part. He is also above asking others for help, being under the assumption that he can do anything that he needs or wants to do. With a little elbow grease, even the stiffest hinges break, and any and all doors can be opened; nothing is ever locked.
xxxPowerWhile Cain does not have nearly as much power as a higher deity, he does still have a reasonable amount. Regardless of importance, he is still a god, and because of that, he can call upon some amount of Skill. It is through the fires of the earth that Cain taps into his Skill, and through their power that he elicits it; his blood contains higher levels of sulfur, making him as volatile and chaotic as the earth he was born from. The pool of his birth offers the greatest source of power, but he can contrive power from all forms of the earth's molten fury. This being said, water negates his Skill, while wind fuels it. Using Skill, however, often leaves him tired and groggy, and more than likely in a piss poor mood. Despite this, he uses it quite often, and always for his own personal gain or 'amusement'. If there is ever a case where he does it to help someone, or something, it's probably because he has some use for them in the future, and never out of kindness or empathy. His own chance at feeling joy is worth more than the pain his Skill might put someone through, and given that all it ever does is leave him sleepy, he has no reason to believe that he is hurting anyone.
xxxTurmoilHaving been born of the earth, itself, Cain seems to constantly be at war with his own actions. It is rarely seen, much the way tectonic movements are, but when it hits, the gravity of it is enormous. They appear to be tied to the movements of the plates, themselves, and even the smallest earthquake from the lands below can send him spiraling into madness. There almost seems to be a second side to him; one that is dark and chaotic, constantly seizing in rebellion. When in Turmoil, Cain becomes almost drunk, and his movements seem outlandish and alien, as though he's forgotten how his limbs work. He does not, however, appear ungraceful. These fits happen very, very rarely, and can last anywhere from a few seconds to a half an hour before he seems to settle down, and often from exhaustion. Note that this can happen when he is hit with fits of Torment, as well, and can thus be worsened by the level of pain and fear he is feeling at that given moment.
xxxHumorCain is not without his good qualities; he has a love for mischief, and a love of humor. Those who know him will know that his trouble is caused with an intent to laugh, and while he may do it for his own gain, he can sometimes make others laugh, too. Friends and strangers alike are subject to his games and pranks, as he holds none above the other in the search for a good laugh. However, his humor is false, and in the best of times, well faked. In the worst of times, his laughter can fall flat and his smiles appear empty, hinting to his agony and lack of vital emotion.
xxxResponsibilityFor all of his misgivings, Cain understands responsibility and the importance of taking responsibility for his actions. He understands the gravity of his powers, and while he may manipulate and influence, he never does so with the intent to harm. Having failed to foresee and calculate the future before, being unable to control any outcome is simply not an option for him. In addition to this, Cain refuses to play tricks involving fire; since the accident, his fascination with fire has blossomed into disgust and hatred. He is always the first to apologize for having pulled a prank when it seems to have serious consequences, and though sometimes this is done grudgingly (and seemingly uncontrollably), it is always done sincerely.

xxxSilver-TongueWhile shrewd Azrein are more likely to see through his lies, Cain has an extraordinary ability to twist words and create elaborate illusions with words that seem very much real. So real, in fact, that he can tell another Azrein where they were, and they will likely believe him. He weaves stories and tall tales that seem so fantastic, so magical, so unbelievable that they can't be real, all the while planting small seeds of truth into the Azrein's mind that leads them to believe it in the end. This can be done to such an effect that the recipient of the lie will tell him their own part in it, recalling memories that they likely never hard in the first place. This is a passive effect; therefore, it requires no effort and very little thought when Cain begins to weave his web of lies. It happens without his knowledge. While he can call on it willingly, doing so drains him more than his own passive ability. Even so, both will leave him lightheaded and short of breath, though he passes this off as elation. He is, however, unfortunately unable to keep track of all his lies, and when confronted with questions to his story, it is entirely possible for him to cross two stories and be found out, in which case, the effect of Silver-Tongue is broken and will not work on that Azrein again. When confronted with Silver-Tongue, an Azrein's intelligence is taken into account; the higher the percentage of intelligence, the less of a chance they will be affected by Cain's tall tales. Note that the effect against other Deities is significantly reduced - it is still, however, possible.
xxxShadow StepShadows are tricky things; they conceal, they deceive and they conquer. As the God of Mischief, Cain has some degree of control over shadows. While it will never be as advanced as the God of Darkness, it is nothing to sneeze at, assuredly. In extreme cases, he has the ability to cloak himself in shadows - to hide himself fully within darkness. He becomes impossible to see, hear, or sense; it as if he was never there. This ability, however, leaves him exhausted beyond words, and once the shadows have left him, he is often vulnerable for upwards of twelve hours afterward while he regains his strength. Due to this, he uses it sparingly and only when he severely needs to escape from a situation - though he has been known to use it for elaborate tricks in the past. This ability can only be used when shadows are present (being at it's strongest near midnight and it's weakest at noon) and once every three days. Shadow Step only ever applies to himself, and he is currently incapable of projecting it on to anyone other than himself. He is also capable of using his Skill to boost the length for which he can maintain the cloak, but this is limited and depends entirely on his proximity to lava or water. His recovery time (while estimated), is subject to change based on how long he uses the ability for.
xxxTormentAs a mortal, Cain played tricks on many. He was reckless, and careless, and often did not see how his pranks might hurt others. His first was to hide from his mother for three days, and when he finally came out of hiding, laughing and squealing with joy, he did not understand why she was so very angry with him for having played such a good joke. His actions held no weight, nor did the consequences. It only escalated from there, and years later, he played his final prank; one that resulted in the death of a good friend and plagued him for the rest of his short life. It didn't take long for his actions to come back to him. Reborn, he is unable to attain joy, or pleasure from his jokes. While he may smile, and laugh, these are hallow actions; mirrors of emotions that he no longer has. He is also at the mercy of the flames. He is forced to understand and relive the pain of burning alive, know the fear and the sense of suffocating in heat. It terrifies him, and he seeks to quench the fires by performing tricks to find a single shred of joy - be it his own, or another's. When a fit of Torment hits, it hits very much like an eruption; visibly, he seems to seize, his muscles shaking uncontrollably in an attempt to fight off the unexplainable heat that licks through his veins. Though he can hold his position when they strike on most occasions, some leave him physically incapacitated and almost go so far as to knock him unconscious. Each fit varies in length and power, and he is entirely unable to predict when they will occur. This terrifies him to no end, as it is something that he is not in control of, and he is often aggressive and cruel afterwards.

((Most family members do not exist within HoA, and are unobtainable as customs.))
It is highly unlikely that Cain will ever bond, due to his own cynicism and general dislike of mortals. However, given the right circumstances, he might be willing to compromise. (For the sake of his own well being and power, mind you.)

xxxxxxA God is Born Cain is born of the tectonic movements of the earth, a shallow earthquake causing an overflow of lava in one of the valleys near the Unthal Mountains. He is met with Varian, the Greater Deity, and his little sparrow, Avari.

[ Basic Information ] xxxNormal Text || Black xxxDialogue Text || " # 9b0000 "
S U G G E S T I O N S : / / .xx For Cain's Hopes: What would happen to Cain if he was able to miraculously feel Happiness? Would he swear to change his ways in order to keep that feeling, or would he shun it because it'd be so alien to him after so many years of being numb? / / .xx In Cain's Fears, explain what would happen if Cain ever found the reincarnation of his friend. And what would happen if somehow, Cain was trapped in a fire? How would he react, with the relationship he now has with fire? / / .xx Try and explain a bit more in Cain's personality; WHY is he so arrogant and selfish? Did something happen in his past to make him that way? Is he like that because deep down, he has shitty self-confidence? Is it because in his past life he had no power, and now that he's a God, he covets it and expects everyone to bow down before him? / / .xx For Cain's Power in the Personality post: Explain a bit more HOW he can access the inherant Skill that lies in the earth's veins. Can he still use Skill even if he's immersed in water? Does he pull Skill from only the lake where he became mortal, or from ALL the lava tunnels beneath the Isle? Is he stronger the closer he is to lava? / / .xx Expand on Turmoil a little bit; why exactly does he have these fits? What happens precisely; is it just physical, or is his nervous system messed up from the heat of the lake he was born in and this is why they happen? / / .xx For Cain's Silver-Tongue: Can he actually place these images of the tales in the minds of affected Azrein, or does he simply weave the lies with half-truths until the Azrein sort of creates their own rendered memories based on what Cain told them? How often can Cain use this ability, and what kind of toll does it take on him? Does Cain have trouble keeping all the lies he's told to everyone straight, or because of his base nature, he is able to perfectly recollect every lie he's ever told? / / .xx For his Shadow Step: What would happen if Cain bumped into someone when cloaked in darkness? Would that cancel out the spell, or would they assume it was a breath of wind? When is Shadow Step at it's weakest and strongest? Can Cain make it extend onto those he has a connection with, such as a lifemate, a Chosen, or a friend? Can it extend to more than one person, like a group of five? If it can, will doing so make Cain fall unconscious immediately after its use? Would he be able to draw on his inherant Skill to bolster the power of Shadow Step, making its duration longer? If so, how would that affect him? / / .xx Put in Cain's History section the prank that was the catalyst for his Torment so many years later. Was he a human back then, or a mortal Azrein? What exactly did he do to his friend? How long had they known each-other, and did his friend scream and curse him at the time of death, was he begging for help, or did he forgive Cain? After that prank, did Cain continue living, or did it scar him so much that he took his own life, thus atoning for his sin and carrying his soul to the High Astral Plane, to be reborn in immortality decades or centuries later? Just explain basically everything that happened, how it affected Cain then, and how it affects him now. Not just in his Torment, but also on his personality as a whole; does he still use fire in his pranks, or is he terrified of making the same mistake? That sort of stuff. / / .xx For Cain's Torment: Go into a bit more detail, here. Is Cain paralyzed whenever Torment overtakes him? Does it leave him drained and afraid, or angry and enraged? How long does one of the fits last, and does it make him exhausted after?
T H O U G H T S : / / .xx I REALLY like the Responsibility part of his Personality -- it's good to know that while he's a trickster, he's come to realize that all of his actions have consequences. I think that'll make for some good character growth as he progresses in roleplays; I'll be interested to see how his sense of responsibility grows or falters. / / .xx The way Cain was born is EXTREMELY unique, and I really like how well it ties in with the catalyst of his Torment. / / .xx I think for Cain's third and final Power, you should make it something to do with fire or lava. Even though fire is the reason of his Torment, I think it would be fitting if Cain could occasionally harness the very element that he fears.
O V E R A L L :
/ / .xx Cain is VERY well constructed and thought-out. I think he's quite realistic; he isn't overpowered, and every part of both Powers and Personality fits very well together with his past. I'm really excited to see his character development, and how he's going to affect the world of HoA. / / .xx VERY good job on Cain's personality; it's all very believable, and I there is a LOT of room for growth and maturity there. I'm interested to see exactly how Cain is going handle various situations that test his responsibility and reactions, such as a prank going wrong again, or whenever there's a dangerous situation and Cain needs to use one of his Powers to save lives. DAMNED good job on him.
I N S T R U C T I O N S :
√xx/ / .xx Write out and detail his History concerning the backstory of his Torment and his friend. √xx/ / .xx Flesh out the description of Cain's Powers as mentioned above, and add / change consequences as stated. √xx/ / .xx Edit the Power portion of Cain's Personality post as stated above. √xx/ / .xx Add a bit more detail to the parts of Cain's Hopes and Fears as suggested.
