 Beta's are cute little fishies but they can be wild ones. They are commonly known as fighter fish. Males love to compete, mostly for the attention of the females.
These specific Betas are special betas. Buffy found them breeding in a tank in her shop, Buffy's Aquarium Paradise. Upon closer inspection she saw that these betas were abnormally large and colorful. So she decided to take them and sell them seperately.
Male Betas have long, beautiful tails to impress the females. On the other hand, females have short, yet elegant tails which have been adapted to take care of their young better.
(I know this isn't real Betta behavior, but these aren't Bettas! These are Beta!) Buffy bought a clownfish and put it in the tank with the beta. The next day she saw an egg at the bottom of the tank. After it hatched it revealed a Clownfish Beta! A crossbreed between Betas and Clownfish.

Posting and General Conduct
~ Do read and follow the Gaia ToS/site rules.
~ Do not steal the images, artwork, or otherwise claim that you made these.
~ Do read the entire first page first.
~ Do not spam the thread. You'll miss out on shop events if you do.
~ Do not advertise without staff permission. It's rude and that's what your sig is for.
~ Do keep your posts mostly coherent, please. Occasional typos are fine, but chatspeak is not.
~ Do display common sense and common courtesy to EVERYONE, staff or not. Have a problem with someone, take it to PMs.
~ Do not PM anyone, staff or regulars, begging for a beta or asking to buy one they own.
~ Do not PM staff or the mule or post in the thread with beta orders when none are available. You may, however, ASK NICELY if any colorists are open for anytimes or bribery.
~ Do not ask for a job here. Staff will contact you if we need additional help.
~ Do not insinuate that staff are doing their jobs wrong. They are doing their best to serve YOU.
~ Do not repeatedly ask when events or slots or bribes will occur.
~ Do send payments and information promptly when needed.
~ Do not insult the artists. We have many talented artists working here (past and present), but if one's lineart or coloring style doesn't float your boat, keep it to yourself.
~ If you have any questions that are not answered by the front page, your best bet is to ASK IN THE THREAD. Both regulars and staff are happy to help.
~ Staff always has the final say on everything shop related. And Gnatty has absolute say (go owner!).
Ownership Rules & Guidelines
~ Betas can be co-owned by a maximum of 2 people.
~ You do not have to RP your betas, though you may do so if you so wish!
~ Do keep the RP PG-13, both here and in the guild.
~ Do play nice OOCly with your fellow RPers, even if IC isn't going so nicely.
~ Do not godmode or try to play the actions of someone else's beta while RPing.
~ Do save your adults/evolves to your own image storage - no one likes a leech. Staff may not be able to restore your beta if you lose it.
~ You cannot sell your beta to someone else after you have bought it, though you may give it away freely. Just contact staff to update the tag.
~ Betas will NEVER be rehomed or bred without the beta's owner's consent.
~ Betas will NEVER be available for real life/money commissions.
~ Do not repeatedly harass other beta owners about their betas or for breedings with certain betas.
General Event Rules
~ Do not whine, beg, plead, guilt-trip, or otherwise discourage others from participating in events.
~ Do not brag/whine about how much/how little gold or items you have to use in the event.
~ Do not edit your posts. Typos are fine, but if you need to add something make a new post.
~ Do only plan on only offering items/gold that you have now, not what you'll have in a week or month, etc. Payments are expected to be prompt.
~ Do not call "dibs" on breedings of as-of-yet unowned event betas. The future owner(s) are under no obligation to fulfill any such claims.
~ Do not be a sore loser and whine continuously that you did not win.
~ Do not be a "sore winner" and brag continuously that you did win.
~ Alternate versions of SEs will NOT be made unless all versions are all released at the same time in the same event.
~ Any further event rules and information will be provided at the specific event.

There are 3 main ways to get your very own Beta:
1. Events: Flat sales, raffles, and auctions aplenty, with an occasional multi-event... event thrown in for maximum fun!
2. Slots: Regular slots can get you customs, breedings, or evolves for a flat price. Letter slots can get you multiple things for the low, low price of a monthly collectible letter or item.
3. Bribes: "Anytime" slots, pet trades, and special commissions! Tempting your friendly neighborhood staff for special stuff, one shiny at a time.
With the exception of raffles and pet trades, all information (if needed) and trades are required within 24 hours of confirmation of winning or slot snagging.
Item orders are NOT included in the price of customs or evolves, so please be sure to calculate your trades accordingly.
~ Flat Sale: Flat sales are a fixed number of pre-made, semi-custom, or custom eggs or betas sold at a flat price. Most are speed based, but occasionally are raffled or trivia based. Additional information is provided in advance and again right before the sale, including numbered previews, sale type, pricings, and go time.
Pre-made: 10k
Semi-custom: 15k
Custom: 20k
~ Raffle: For raffles, you buy tickets to have a chance at winning a selection of pre-made betas. Sometimes the number of betas is fixed, sometimes more will be added once certain ticket numbers are reached. You can buy an unlimited amount of tickets, unless of course the raffle is free. Each raffle will provide any additional information needed, including special offers, accepted items, and dates.
Flaffle: FREE, but you only get 1 ticket
Raffle: 100g per ticket
~ Auction: Occasionally leftover eggs from breedings, specially colored/edited betas, or brand new SEs will go up for auction. Anyone can bid, and though gold is preferred, some items are allowed. Each auction will provide any additional information needed, including item values, autobuys, and dates.
Auction: starting bid 10k
SE Auction: starting bid 10k to 20k
~ Regular Slots: Similar to a flat sale, but with more options! A specific number of slots will be available from a colorist that allow you to purchase things like evolves and breedings in addition to customs for a flat price. See the colorist work threads in the guild for more information and openings!
Regular Evolve: 10k
SE Evolve: 20k
Custom: 20k
Breeding: 20k
~ Letter Slots: Formerly letter bribes, these are a darn good deal for all the stuff you can get from them! Letters are always the current month's letters unless otherwise stated, and customs are regular betas and clownfish ONLY!
Any additional information, such as the number of slots and date/time the go post will be, will be provided in advance. Some letter slots are speed based, some are flaffled or trivia based. If you get a slot, check the colorist's anytime/work thread to see how you need to submit the order.
1 Sealed Letter --- 2 Custom Betas
1 Sealed Letter --- 2 Breeding Pairs
1 Sealed Letter --- 1 Custom Beta & 1 Breeding Pair
1 Sealed Letter --- 4 Evolved Regular Betas (You must own the adult versions)
1 Sealed Letter --- 2 SE Evolved Betas (You must own the adult versions)
2 Sealed Letters --- 4 Breeding Pairs + 1 Custom Beta
2 Sealed Letters --- 4 Custom Betas + 1 Breeding Pair
2 Sealed Letters --- 8 Evolved Reg Betas + 1 SE Evolved Beta (You must own the adult versions)
For further mixing and matching:
1 breeding pair = 1 custom beta = 2 regular evolves = 1 SE evolve
Occasionally, the colorists will offer these additional options when they feel they can handle them:
1 Sealed Letter --- 1 Custom Beta + up to 10 items
~ Evolving items: Sometimes, the colorists will ask for evolving items instead of letters. Essentially you can get the same things you can with the letters, but sometimes a bit more based on the evolving items' Cash Shop price compared to the letters'. And every once in a while, the colorists might offer up something really special in return.
~ Anytimes: If slots are not available, you can try to snag an "anytime" slot from one of the colorists. Since they are a bribe to get stuff done NOW, anytimes are 5x the price of regular slots. If these become over popular, the prices may rise! For more information, please see the colorist work threads.
Regular Evolve: 50k
SE Evolve: 100k
Custom: 100k
Breeding: 100k
~ Pet Trades: Yes, we do pet trades, but each colorist has his/her own terms! Please read them so you know what you're getting into!
Gnatty-bug: will take a maximum of 3 a month, but no RP-required pets since she rarely leaves Beta HQ. She will not trade common SE betas unless you offer something really impressive/special. If your shop has well done lineart/coloring, you'll probably get a yes. Automatic yes for SoA, Soquili, Cait, Talaye, Sion, Daeka, EoE, WoE, GHS, Feli, Ancients of China, Kitsusagi, Shaoilin, and My Little Gaian Pony trades. Contact Gnatty either in the thread or by PM.
ArynLight: See her Pet Trade info in her Work Thread. You can contact her in the thread or by PM.
Kishara: is open to offers, though he will rarely accept. Automatic yes for Soquili, Ex Libris, and Audios. You can contact him by PM.

Once your Beta has grown into an adult you can breed it. Pairs may choose to mate for life and gain a few perks! Just ask one of us to cert them as mates. :3
Special Editions may breed and possibly pass on their 'special' features. Mix and match to get awesome results!
To breed a pair of beta post both betas' tags in the correct colorist's work thread and send a trade with the proper amount to the correct colorist. You will be notified of the number of eggs and SE types (if applicable) as soon as possible.
Breeding costs 10k per pair of betas.
Staff Breeding pricing has been moved to SE Commissions.
Slots will now be shown as available IN THE GUILD, so check the work threads for openings. It pays to be observant, for sometimes the Staff are like ninja.
Slots: When a colorist announces that s/he's open for breedings, post in his/her work thread to claim it, with all required information! Please send the trade as soon as it's confirmed that you snagged it.
Anytime offer: If there are no regular slots available you can pay for an anytime breeding. They are x8 the regular prices, but you will get your betas breed as quickly as possible. See colorist work threads in the guild for further information and ordering.
General Breeding Info
~ M/M and F/F are pairings allowed in addition to M/F pairings.
~ A pair can breed whenever they wish, as long as they don't have unhatched eggs and breeding is available.
~ Betas that are closely or directly related MAY NOT breed together. No incest, plzkthx.
~ Breeding costs may be split among the owners however they wish.
~ You will receive anywhere from 2-5 eggs from the breeding, though 3 is most common.
~ On average, betas take about 2 weeks to grow from egg to adult. HOWEVER, this can vary and sometimes growth is quicker or takes longer, depending on the colorist and his/her workload.
Mated Beta Info
~ Mated betas have higher chance of more eggs - in fact, mated betas are the only ones able to produce 5 eggs.
~ Both fish MUST be tagged as mates to be considered mates by the breeder at the time of breeding.
~ Mated beta can ONLY breed with their tagged mates, unless you can provide evidence of EXTENSIVE, IN-DEPTH, RELEVANT RP as justification for swinging or cheating.
Staff Beta Info
~ YES! Staff betas may breed with betas
~ Breedings involving 1st generation (those of staff) and 2nd generation (direct offspring of staff) staff betas will produce more staff betas (chibi mermaid/non-evolved humanoid).
~ Breedings involving 3rd generation (offspring of a 2nd gen.) staff betas will only produce betas.
~ Staff Breedings MUST go through a lineartist, unless a 3rd generation staff beta is involved
You've breed your betas, now what do you do with the eggs? :O
~ You may do as you wish with your eggs: divide them evenly, give some away, hoard them, auction some, etc.
~ If you choose to give them away, YES you may run a little raffle or contest as long as it remains FREE.
~ If you choose to auction/sell your eggs, the COLORIST will hold the auction, though you can help set the autobuy and auction dates. Starting bid is always 5k and the colorist will receive 50% of the profits, no matter how high the auction goes.

Beta can evolve to a mermaid-like form. In this form they are able to mate and produce more eggs successfully. They can mate with unevolved betas. Regulars evolve to regular lines only (but you have a choice of regular lines!), and SEs evolve to their specific SE type only.
To evolve a beta, post with the beta's tag and evolve form (if a regular or clownfish) in the correct colorist work thread, well as the trade with the proper amount to the correct colorist!
Evolving a Reg/Clownfish Beta cost 5k
Evolving a Special Edition Beta cost 10k
If you own an evolved regular beta/clownfish and want to change over to newer lineart, it will cost you 5k.

Want some neat items for your beta to wear and look cool? Now they can! The latest fashions are here!
Please check the colorist anytime/work threads for how to submit your orders then send the colorist the trade. They will accept once they have begun work on your beta.
Your orders must include a picture of your beta and a CLEAR statement of which item(s) you are buying! We're not psychic!
Items fit on any stage and will be carried on to the final stages of the beta's life. However, it is preferable to wait until the beta is an adult to buy items if the item colorist is different from the breeding colorist.
Some premade items have color modification included in the price (they are marked). If you would like an item that does not have this option in a different color, the item will cost 1k.
These items are for both male and female betas! Buffy just used the female to model them! They work on BOTH regular and clownfish betas! Yes! Evolved Betas MAY wear items.
 
Ever wanted a specific item for your beta? Here's your chance! Custom items are available. Certain types cost more or less, depending on how intricate they are. Outfits have discounts too!
