"The bell"
My name is Coyotes Cry. I am a single man living at the edge of a small village. To get by I usually do some farming and a little hunting. I have a good life, mostly, Although I have enough to eat and can make it through each day, I am alone. I am not married and I have no children of my own. Little did I know how quickly that was about to change. Perhaps it was tha fates that tossed us together or just coincedence. Whatever it was that brought us together I'm glade it did. It all started when I was hunting in the woods near my home. Usually their is some animal that can easily be caught in the woods, but today I has having trouble getting one. I was starting to get fusterated and the sun was high in the sky. The heat beat down on me without mercy and I was almost ready to give up and go home when I heard a noise. It sounded like a set of hoves on the ground. Thinking it was a deer I did not hesitate to follow it. Whatever the animal was it was it was something to follow. Soon I found myself running at full speed. My lungs blazing with air. I couldn't let this one get away. I haddent eaten meat in so long and I was starting to miss it. I followed the hoves into a clearing and found no animals amongs the clearing. Instead I found a lake near a large looking temple.I cursed under my breath at the loss and began turned around to head back to my home. It was then that I heard it. The soft chime of a bell. I turned to face the clearing again. I didn't see anything I walked further into the clearing too see if I was where the ringing was coming from. There was nothing to be seen. Before turning again I looked into the Water. My eyes grew wide with shock. The moon was being reflected in the water. Usually that woul,d not be so amazing, but it was because the moon was not out in the sky. I bent down close to investigate this strange occurance and I slipped.

"The Bell" (Continued) I fell head first into the lake, but I did not hit the bottom of the shallow lake water. Instead I fell straight through the ground and back on the shore of the lake close to the water. I was in a complete state of shock. I couldn't understand what was going on. Hadn't I just fallen into the lake? Not to mention that the sky had suddenly turned dark and instead of the sun a full moon hung overhead. I don't claim to know much, but I do know it does not change from night to day that quickly. It was then that I heard the ringing. I looked out into the lake again and to my surprise on a large lily pad I saw it, a bell. Even though I knew very little about what was going on I went to the bell. I had no idea why, but I had the urge to take the bell into my hands and so a trodded through the water. When I was waist deep in the cool liquid I reached the lily pad and I snatched the bell and held it gently in my hands. It was then I heard a voice speak to me. "Within that bell grows a baby Satyr," said the voice. It was a clam sweet voice, obviously female. I looked around for the owner. No one could be seen. "A Satyr?" I asked. "Yes," The voice answered, "And he needs someone to watch over him." I stared at the small bell and said, "He is alone..." "Not anymore," The voice paused and then continued, "That is, if you are willing to care for him." Not having any children of my own and being rather lonely I nodded and said, "I will, I promise I'll take good care of him." "Good, " The voice rang out. The moon quickly grew incredibly bright. I found myself blinded for a few moments and I didn't know what was going on. It was then that I awoke from my sleep. I was laying on the shallow part of the lake and staring up into the sky. Half my body was soaked while the other half was dry. And a tiny bell was clenched in my right hand.

Artemus
Today it happened. While I was preparing some stone soup on the stove. The bell began to ring on it's own. It caught me by suprise because the bell never rang when I let it on it's own. The only time the bell would ring is if I was rubbing it and talking to it softly, but this time it was ringing on it's own and rather loudly I might add. "Bell?" I questioned. The ringing just grew louder and louder. The bell itself began to glow and incredibly bright and float. Then it began to grow before my very eyes. It was amazing. A body began to form from the bell and then there was a flash. I was blinded and when I could see again a small white-haired, blue-eyed Satyr stood before me.

Artemis Continued
I looked up at the fox man with my newly developed blue eyes. So this is the man who had spoken to me gently, I though. I didn't hesitate to run to him and give him a hug. He looked at me with a look of surprise, but soon hugged my back. "Thank you for speaking to me." I said as he kneeled before he and started to rub the top of my head. "It was not a problem little one." He said as he smiled back at me. "But please, tell me, what is your name?" "Ohh, me!" I pointed to myself. "I'm Artemis!"

The flute
Today I was reading some books that Coyotes gave me. He told me reading is the best way to learn so I've been reading his books while he's been working. I like them a lot. Many have intresting pictures. There's one with ancient Greeks dressed up as satyrs. I like that one a lot. there costumes were pretty funny. Anyways, I was reading my book a playing with a loose thread on my sweater ( Coyotes bought it for me so I could stay protected in the sun). And then Coyotes came in smiling happily. And Saying, "I found it!" "Found what?" I asked as I leapt off the bed and ran to him. "It's something I've had since I was a child." Coyotes said as he pulled a small box out of his pocket. "What is it?" I asked excitedly. "It's a wooden flute." Coyotes said as he opened the box. In the box stood a beautifully crafted wooden flute. It had a swirling design on it. The flute was painted a light blue and the design was painted a dark green. I looked at it with awe. I had nevere seen anything so beautiful. "It's pretty. Can you play it?" I asked. He nodded and started playing it. It had a beautiful light sound too it. I clapped when he stopped. "Well," He handed me the flute, "Why don't you give it a try?" "Ok, " I said as I picked up the flute and lifted it to my lips. I Blew across the opening as Coyotes had and It made a sharp piercing sound. I put the flute down quickly. I had made a really ugly sound with it and I felt a little ashamed. Coyotes laughed softly. "Don't worry little one, " He smiled, "you just need to keep trying. No one got good at something right away. It takes practice. Besides, this is my present too you. It's a late birthday present. Cause I didn't get you anything when you were born." "Really it's mine!" I said happily. He nodded. "Will you teach me how to play it?" "Of course!" He laughed as he said it. I was so happy I gave him a big hug! And then I spent the rest of the afternoon learning how to play the flute.

Books
Today Coyotes came brought home some books from the Village. They were books on mathmatics, science, language and Grammar, art, and music. Coyotes told me that I was to read all of them within the next few months. I happily said ok, but after a few days I couldn't take it anymore. The books on mathmatics and science are so boring. The language and Grammar book is not that much better.
I asked Coyotes why I had to study these. He said it was because he wanted me to be smart. He said that reading many different things makes us smarter and that it will only help me to learn these things. I believe him, I guess, but the only books I really care for are the ones Coyotes would let me read before. Many of them are journals he has written.

Music
Artemus has been doing really well in his studies. I was happily suprised. He has learned much about math and Science. He is now starting to learn how to divide. And he is doing great in his spelling and Grammar. However, of all the things he is good at, the flute seems to be the one thins that has progressed the most. He knows every note be it flat or sharp. And he has already started playing complicated rythmes. I have him play for me every night while I prepare dinner. He loves to play the flute. He has grown a lopt smarter and calmer since we first met, But I worry about him. He hasn't really been out to play much with the other Satyrs. I don't think it's a matter of him being shy. I think it's more a bit of bad luck. Maybe I should schedual a play date.
