The Cubs Haven
Open RP, no teens or adults please
From the outside it didn't look like much, just a bunch of rocks piled up from an old rock slide. But looks can be deceiving. Large predators didn't go near it because of prickly bushes that grow around the base which made it a great place for small creatures to take refuge. Anyone who could fit through the gaps in the rocks would find the inside held everything you could ever need. Large flat rocks for sunning and sleeping on, a stream that comes down off the rock walls creating cascading waterfalls before resting in a small pond, grass (which is scares in this area) and plenty of fresh fruits. The perfect little haven.

 "Another hot day" Vespera mumbled to herself, "oh well". She lazily flipped her tail feathers in and out of the water. Vespera didn't particularly like the heat but the water here helped with that. "But it is a nice day" She thought as she stretched out, rolling to watch the clouds above.
"If I see that mouse again I'll have to make sure and thank him", she smelled to herself " before I eat him". If it hadn't been for that stupid mouse she never would have found this place. Earlier she had been practicing her pouncing when she just happened to see the perfect pray, a mouse had wondered too close to pass up the opportunity. But like all earlier attempts she messed it up, this time stepping on one of her own tail feathers ans falling flat on her face. The mouse stopped mid stride and just started laughing. Vespera, rather embarrassed, growled before getting up to chase her pray. "Why you little..." She fumbled after the now scurrying mouse. She wanted to catch it so badly. She hated being laughed at. Right when she thought she might actually catch the mouse he ducked through some prickly bushes. Although she followed she didn't do so gracefully and just slammed her way through. What awaited her on the other side was a present surprise.

 Astraea had been wondering around, looking very thirsty..she was in need of something to drink. Her eyes looked around for some source of water, but she couldn't seem to find anything. The small cub sat down and sniffed the air, knowing she should be able to find something to drink that way. Soon the fresh smell of water seemed to greet her and she jumped up as quickly as she could. She started to follow her sense of smell in the direction the smell was coming from. After a bit of traveling, she saw some prickly bushes and she wondered if she could carefully get through those. She had to try, they were standing between her and the water. She crouched down so she stomach was brushing the dirt, then started crawling under the bushes. When she found herself on the other end, she gasped in surprise by what she saw.

Vespera was sitting on a rock watching the water ripple, still flipping her tail feathers in and out of the water. The large fluffy clouds had moved out replaced by thin stringy ones, not quite as fun to watch. Vespera liked the water, felt nice to cool off in this heat. The sounds here relaxed her, she listened to everything. Water falling and making a soft splash, the wind through the prickly bushes a slight whistle and then there was the scratching sound of dirt. Her ears perked up, that's not normal she thought.
Maybe it was the mouse back again to laugh at her. Vespera listened intently wondering if she could catch him this time. The scooting sound sounded like it was coming from the prickly bushes behind her. Wiggling slightly to get her legs in place Vespera waited for the moment to pounce. The noise stopped, turning quickly she tried to jump and pounce only to be surprised that it wasn't a mouse behind her, someone a bit bigger. It was too late to do anything gracefully, not that she knew how to, her back leg caught her front leg and down she went...

Astraea had just been admiring the beauty around her, when she saw something coming out of no where. Her eyes widened like a deer staring into oncoming trouble, not sure if she could move in time. She however didn't have time and she closed her eyes, bracing for impact.

The world spun around her and the last thing she remembered seeing before things went fuzzy was the blue eyed cub she mistook for a mouse. Vespera tried to stand but found it a little difficult, her head was pounding and the bright light of the day wasn't helping. She spoke out loud hoping the cub was somewhere near by, "I thought you were the mouse I" she didn't want to say fell through the prickly bushes after "err chased in here earlier. Didn't mean to attack you..." She stretched her arms and legs making sure nothing was broken.

Astraea cautiously opened one of her eyes when she heard the voice of the other explaining what had happened. When she saw the other in a heap in front of her, she opened the other eye and wondered if the other cub was alright.
"Are you okay, you didn't hurt yourself, did you? Sorry if I surprised you, I just came in here to get a drink,"Astraea explained quietly.

She heard the blue eyed lion speak but it took a second to understand her. "Oh no no, I think I'm fine. Unfortunately I seem to do this often." Her eyes finally aloud her to keep them open, although she was quite sure there was only one cub there and not two. "The waters nice and cool, I'm Vaspera." She smiled softly.

Astraea tilted her head, did this other cub really fall like this a lot? Wouldn't that mean she usually got hurt when she did?
"My name is Astraea, it is very nice to meet you, Vaspera. Well, I am glad to hear you are fine, you really should be more careful,"Astraea suggested.

Although her head was still pounding she was revealed to find that there was now only one blue eyed cub in front of her. At least she wasn't wrong that she was seeing stars. Vespera had never seen a lion who looked like the night sky. "Astraea it's nice to meet you too. I try to be careful, although it doesn't seem to be working too well lately." Vaspera trotted towards the water, her leg did hurt a little. "Usually I don't do it more than once in the same day..." She was beginning to wonder if there was something wrong with her. At least other than a few scrapes or bruises nothing major had happened to her, yet. The headache from this fall was worse then normal. She was lucky that when she tumbled through the prickle bush she was only pricked a few times and not scraped up.

Astraea listened to what the other cub said, glad she didn't have accidents like this more than once a day. She hoped she didn't fall everyday, that would be a little too much.
"Well, maybe you just have to be more alert to your surroundings. I mean, if you are not so quick to rush into something, then you are less likely to fall,"Astraea spoke.

She giggled "Yeah, such as making sure you are a mouse before jumping. Please have some water, its very hot outside." Vaspera started lapping up some water doing her best not to lean forward too far, didn't need to fall in on top of everything. "Not sure where the water comes from but it is nice and cold, something you don't have around here. Tastes good."
Her ears perked up lightly, she thought she herd something off in the distance.

Astraea laughed, yes, good to verify what something is before you pounce at it.
"Yes, you never know what you are pouncing on if you do not look beforehand. I could have been something that could hurt you,"Astraea admitted. She walked over to the water and took a drink. Mmm, the water was so cool and delicious, she had never tasted anything like it.

The thought of what Astraea could have been began to freak Vespera out. She could remember her mothers stories of hyenas and cheetahs. She always made them sound soo scary and they were defiantly much larger then her. A small cub would make for a great snack for them. "Thanks for the reminder, I need to make sure and not forget that. So what were you up to before you found your way in here?" Vespera looked around, this place would make for a great hideout.

Astraea lapped up a bit more of the water, before she looked up and paid attention to the other cub. She nodded, she knew there were a lot of things out here that could kill a young cub and she did not want to meet any of them anytime soon.
"Well, before I felt really thirsty, I was headed for a place to rest,"Astraea replied.
