Best: I will admit, FE8 and FE13 are like tied to me to recommend to new player. They both having similar game system despite how some of the features are included or not (aka: FE8 has Rescue while FE13 has Pair Up.) And while I think FE7 is a good choice due to a balanced game system and storyplot, I have to agree with FD that FE8 is more friendlier than FE7. But to decide which game is best to recommend, I will have to say FE13 because the game makes it quite easier for the units to level due to skills than FE8. And even unequip the skill, FE13 units are able to level up easily due to the supports and Pair Up boost. Not to mention, FE13 has two different setting systems where you can save the game as well as reclassing multiple times while FE8 is restricted to one and that's it.
Worst: FE11. I don't know if there's a tutorial (can someone refresh me that?) about what each class does or how some of the game setting works, but it feels lack to me. Not to mention, there are some parts where you have to SACRIFICE your units in order to get units. There's no tutorial telling you that about that. And even if the player are supposed to figure that out on his/her own, it would upset the player about losing the unit. Seriously, we players like to collect them like Pokemon, not trying to form a cult to sacrifice to get an unit. >>;

On harder difficulties you start at chapter 1, and minus one Frey since he is the canonical sacrifice.

Although, I will admit that even though shadow dragon has problems, I actually liked the tutorial and how it provided Marth's backstory. I liked that it's showing the player what happened rather just telling it. FE3 book part one(Where shadow dragon pretty much takes place) just starts you off at chapter 1 against Gazzak and his band of pirates. FE11 could do this too, but you'd have to play in the harder difficulties as Tiki just said already.
We already get the idea that Marth had to escape his kingdom of Altea because of the whole Gra incident occurring at the time. We don't actually get to see what happened, but rather it's told through the prologue in text. And I have to give Shadow Dragon kudos for that at least!
The Fire Emblem anime at least had a short introduction scene of Gra's betrayal coming into place, and being all dramatic and cheesy, but it's the good kind of 90's cheese. emotion_dealwithit BUT darn it with Theme of love arrangement playing in the background... crying It's getting off topic as it is so I'll stop here... lol

I still need to come up with a new topic, but I do want to say I am amazed at how much everyone participated in this topic. I'm not counting the votes. This was something I planned from the beginning when I put out this topic. Just give me a little time to think about a topic and I'll post one.
