Cai

Name: Chrysicai
Age: 25
Gender: Female identifies as male
Candidate: Yes
Craft/Rank: Journeyman Healer

Appearance: Generally the first thing noticed about Cai is his obnoxiously bright orange of her hair, which stands out among the drab walls and dark uniforms of Wardens. Coupled with his pale skin and thick layer of freckles, he stands out in a crowd. While Cai is female in body, he identifies as male. He takes advantage of his height ( 5'7"), his lack of curves, thick straight brows, and less-than-delicate jawline in developing a more androgynous appearance. He wears his hair just beyond his shoulders or tied back in a small tail.

Cai wears practical clothing, loose pants, high necked shirts and vests or a jacket over top, despite the heat. He has a preference for healer green, but will wear any color so long as it's not the prisoner's red and yellow. You'll never catch him in a skirt or any other article of 'girl' clothing if he has a say in the matter.

Personality: Sit Down. Shut Up. Do as I say. Cai is in charge and you'll just have to deal with it. This is his show and he'll run it whichever way he likes. He wants his fingers in every little pie and everything to be done his way. Cai is very much the micro-manager. He'll constantly be on others backs, making sure they're doing their work properly. He likes to always have something productive to do. There are things to be done and people need to do them NOW not later or when they feel like it.

Cai believes he's doing what's best for those around him though many will just find him bossy. Cai will question anyone and everyone's methods if he doesn't think they're the best. "Why not do it this way? It would go a lot faster if you did this..." ect. While he won't make friends with those he bosses around, if given leave to do as he wants, he gets good results.

Cai doesn't like people arguing with him. He's very stubborn and set in his ideas. Things will go a LOT smoother if you'll just do as he says. As a healer he's shown a talent for it. His serious attitude applies itself well to his chosen craft though his bedside manners leave much to be desired. In fact he's quite blunt in telling you the truth and exactly what he thinks.

Pros: Responsible, Bold, Honest
Cons: Bossy, Argumentative, Controlling

History:

Cai grew up at Fort Weyr with her parents, both healers themselves, led her onto the career path she eventually chose. She was an only child, and as such spent time with the other children of the weyr. In particular, she found herself spending a lot of time with a couple of children from the guard, Wen and his step sister Jemi. The three formed a rather close friendship in their younger turns, but eventually Cai left her friends, and some uncomfortable feelings behind when she left for the Healers Hall to begin her apprenticeship.

For seven turns she struggled at the Hall, not so much with her studies, Cai's parents had thrown true in breeding a natural born healer, but with her own identity. As she went through puberty she found herself growing more and more uncomfortable in her own skin. Dating and relationships outside of a professional manner were difficult to get into and worse to maintain. It was easier to just avoid all of that nonsense and focus on her lessons.

It wasn't until she was in her final year of apprentice ship and studying for her knots that Cai deliberately started identifying and dressing as a male. By the time she walked the tables and was sent to her first assignment Cai had settled into her new identity and relieved to start fresh outside of the Hall. For the first turn of Cai's life as a Journeyman he was stationed at a small hold loosely beholden to Fort. While he didn't have problems exactly, living in such a remote area didn't agree with the weyr raised healer. He wanted more out of his work and after some discussions between himself and the Hall, he transferred to Fort Weyr itself.

Cai hadn't quite considered that he wasn't the 12 turn old girl everyone back at home had last seen. He considered sitting his family and old friends down and explaining it all to them... then scrapped that idea. Cai acted like nothing was different. He didn't make a big deal of it, and neither did Wen or Jemi. They rekindled their friendship and before any of them really realized what had happened, it had developed into the carefully maintained relationship that it is now.

Really, the only surprise waiting for Cai back home was how short Wen was.

At one point, there was talk of a child between the three of them, with Wen and Jemi not being intimate with each other, Cai was the only option. He wasn't too sold on the idea, even with the enthusiasm the others displayed (in particular Jemi) but he eventually agreed, they wouldn't try for it, but if it happened, it happened. (Spoiler: It happens.)

Wardens had Cai's vague interest from the moment it was built. He wasn't sure how he felt about the idea of a prison weyr. He does remember being disgruntled when he heard of the gold they had sent to be their Weyrwoman. It seemed patronizing of both the weyr's legitimacy, and of the dragon and her rider. Cai kept up on the news of the weyr, but beyond his surface curiosity, he had no further interest in the south's experiment.

Until word of the hatching reached Fort. Cai took it as a personal offense that people were gossiping about pink dragons let alone any of the other dimglowed things suddenly springing from their lips. The worst rumor though was that the Warden himself had shot one of the hatchlings.

Cai just couldn't comprehend it, or believe it to be real until he saw with his own eyes. His decision to go to Wardens was abrupt, especially considering he'd only just discovered that Jemi had got what she wanted, Cai was indeed carrying Wen's child. He wouldn't be dissuaded though until he'd seen the truth of things first hand.

There's no such thing as a pink dragon after all.

Other stuff: ... I think that's a baby bump... It might be a baby bump...

Cai is just over two months pregnant with Wen's child. They doesn't know yet, but it will be twin girls. We're considering having them visit a dolphineer to learn of the twins before they're born.
