When Aspen heard Vincent call her beautiful, she closed her eyes, deep in thought. She remembered how bad she used to be. Back when she was insecure about almost everything. She couldn't help but compare herself to other girls and feel really ugly and fat. She never liked the way she looked or how her body shape is like. Whenever she saw these really pretty girls, specifically at gymnast camp, she would feel horrible and jealous and even started wishing she was like them. Even though she's not the skinniest girl, she knew that she wasn't not fat but can’t help but compare herself all the time. She didn't even give it a second thought when she did. Her parents would always say that she was beautiful and all that but she just didn't believe it. Aspen would constantly look at herself in the mirror and became more self-conscious. But, it was different now. She opened her eyes after a few moments of silence, realizing he was even closer to her, hands now resting on her forearms. "I am now, at least better than I was before. If I do something like that again just remind me. I can snap out of it and get a hold of myself." Aspen gave him the most sincere smile.
Yet you could see that she was beginning to warm up to Vincent, as if she had a secret crush on him. Absurd as it was, she warmed up easily and trusted people even quicker even if they had only just met. But, with Vincent she felt like she had known him much longer. That was just how it went with her. "No probl-" she stopped in mid sentence when he came in closer to her, just close enough so he could reach her ear. She shivered again, feeling a shock of excitement running down her spine. Aspen gulped, not knowing what to say, and she didn't dare doing so because she was afraid it'd come out wrong if she did. "I will. I promise," she vowed, ducking her head trying to hide the growing blush on her cheeks. She smiled slightly when she felt him stroke her hair, a calm feeling washing over her stressed one from her thoughts from before. "Right of course," she said, wondering what else he wanted to tell her.
Aspen glanced down at the candy in her palm that Vincent had handed her. He said it was for good luck. In her mind she thought of it as something to keep her going before they reached the restaurant, but she stuffed it in her pocket just in case she needed this 'good luck' like he said. She knew he was still holding onto her hand, but she pretended she didn't notice either, just so she'd have an excuse to not let go. "If you insist. But, I can help a little bit with the bill. I don't want you paying for all of it." When he suggested carrying her to the restaurant, she just laughed, thinking he was kidding. She smiled brightly at him, her eyes dancing with excitement, "I think your kidding right? You don't have to carry me, I'm not hurt or anything. So I'll just walk next to you if that's okay." Aspen tightened her grip on his hand, locking her fingers through his.
