I ended up getting invited to a Diverstity Prom (mainly for the LGBT community where i am), but im not too sure if i should go or not. Im really shy and i dont really know anyone thats going, and i've honestly never been to something like this before. I like the face that I wont have to hide who I am as much while there, but im still nervous about it. I guess im asking whether or not i should go really. sweatdrop

Of course you should go! mrgreen You may not really know anyone, but it sounds like a great way to get to know the LGBTQ people in your area. And just because you're shy doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself, it just means you might have to step out of your comfort zone a little bit, (which isn't a bad thing, trust me. It's usually when we step outside of our comfort zones a bit that we have amazing experiences.) I would definitely advise that you go ahead and give the Diversity Prom a chance.

I say this as another very shy person -- try it! You never know what could happen. I think it's important to make a showing at LGBT-oriented events so that people can feel supported and part of a group, and at the same time it can help you find your place in the LGBT community in your area. And really, LGBT events are usually designed to be a very safe space, so hopefully you should feel even more comfortable than other social events where you might have to have a little more of your guard up. It's a good experience, if you can make it. smile

I'm fairly socially awkward and basically hate parties/prom type things but I would still go if I were in your situation so I hope you did have the chance to go
