Title of the Story: The New World
Synopsis:
In the mid-nineteenth century, world-renowned scientist Dr. Karl Albrecht is accredited with the most powerful technologies developed in the history of the world. The world is plunged into an industrial revolution of machinery, commerce, scientific discovery and unprecedented knowledge. After ten years of supplying the world with powerful new technology, Dr. Albrecht attempted to do something never dreamed of; fusing theory, scientific method and metaphysics into an ultimate goal of traversing between dimensions. It is a success, and humankind explores this new world. Dr. Albrecht is again accredited with a discovery that isn’t rivaled by any previous invention or theory in the history of mankind. Although some major accidents happen after the first few days of exploring the new world, Dr. Albrecht who barely survived the accident and his remaining peers decide to colonize this place. The very physics of the plane are different from Earth’s own, such as gravity differences and shards of land floating thousands of miles away in the sky, which lacks any stars, suns, or planetary bodies other than these numerous shards, even the sky’s permanently violet hue and dusk-like dimness show great differences from Earth.
Eventually after a year of exploration and settling a new town on the “other side” of the portal, Dr. Albrecht finally joins the thousands of people now thriving in this new city in this alien world… Only upon his arrival, something catastrophic happens. The portals are closed off from each other, stranding the humans in this new world with previously unknown monstrosities beyond their wildest imaginations. The sky is ripped open by a massive fiend who allows swarms of smaller beasts to flood into the city and destroy everything and kill everyone, and Dr. Albrecht is knocked unconscious during the destructive pandemonium, losing contact with his scientific protégé, his assigned military commander of the forces on this side of the portal, and his lover. He wakes up later, in unfamiliar territory, only to find that he feels different than he did before… And he wonders what will happen to him. He wonders how he will return home, or if he will even see his home again. He wonders how he will find or save his friends and lover, or if he will have to dig their graves. He wonders if he can save his home from the beasts he witnessed. And mostly, he wonders if his life will ever return to the way it was..
Little does he know that powers greater than he realizes are watching and manipulating him in ways he could never understand…
