"Shenja... Don't do that." scolded Diedre, glancing at her brother as he picked up another smooth rock.
"Oh, why not, sis?" Shenja threw the rock along the weyrlake with more than a little glee as it skipped three times (Three!) "It's fun!"
He picked up another one. "Bet I can get to four!"
"Shenja. Stop it..." she tried to grab for his hand, only to be eluded. "We don't know if it's against the rules. What if these stones are here for a reason, Shenja. We're guests. Lets not get in trouble.
Shenja laughed. "Aww, come on, Didi..." he threw the stone. Only two skips this time... awww. "Why would we get in trouble? I'm the one throwing the stones." He picked up another one with a mischevious glance at his sister. "And besides, we've been here before, and I've thrown stones at this weyr lake. Before. Didn't get in trouble those other times!"
Didi lunched halfheartedly for the boy, who dodged out of the way with a giggle. He was getting far too old for these antics. Really. "Yes, but you don't know. The rules might have changed." she scolded. She knew it was a weak stance to take. Who would make a rule against throwing rocks in a lake? But it was a weyrlake, and she didn't want to risk it. "Shenja..."
But it was too late, another rock sent sailing over the lake.
"Whohoo! Four!" Shenja crowed. He knew he was 14 now, and supposed to be calming down, but he was only more energized! Life was a great game, wasn't it? And he was happy to be in a safe place (not the jungle!!!) baiting his sister. He looked around. Anybody at the weyrlake to talk to? He was getting kind of bored, actually.
