He was lost.
Havelock supposed this was probably a bad thing. Maybe. Perhaps. But, all things considered, it could have been worse. It could have been that he had left everything at home like last week and had been completely unprepared for his duties. Or it could have been like that time where he had been on a mission and had gotten distracted and wound up going for a swim and when he had come back he was entirely alone.
Point of fact: it could have been worse.
At least, Havelock decided, he had someone to patrol with. Normally he was by himself, seeing as how easily distracted he was, but, well, this time he had someone to guide him, someone to keep him grounded.
Or not.
"So," said Havelock, in a friendly sort of way. "Been a Knight long?"Kiareii look at this terrible start ide

Somewhat startled to hear his companion break the silence he had maintained since they had left the capital, Azra'iel's smooth stride hitched slightly before he continued moving forward through the forest. When his partner had appeared to prefer to travel in silence, he had simply allowed his mind to wander to the facts they had of the mission at hand. Reports of vicious beasts attacking were not uncommon... near the Riftwood or even in Thornwood and Agnhim Swamp. In Clarus Arbor? That required the attention of the Knights.
Continuing forward, Azra'iel considered the question. "I have been with the Knights for ten years now; though I have been training with my father for almost twice that." Ducking his head slightly as he moved a branch out of his way, he glanced over his shoulder to the figure trailing slightly behind him. "And, yourself? ...I apologize, it was Finnabar, correct?"

He smiled vaguely, or maybe it was distractedly, as something had twined its way around Havelock's foot. A vine of sorts, or maybe just a particularly friendly twig, and he spent several seconds trying to continue walking without actually attempting to free himself and wondering why it was that he was having difficulties.
"Ten years is a long time," said Havelock amiably, finally reaching down to tug at the vine, snapping it between his fingers. He eyed it curiously, and then dropped it back down, smoothing his hand down the front of his clothes. "I myself have only been with them for about five, though it seems like forever, and really forever is a long time, and so is five years, and have you ever been to the little inn on the shores of the city next over? It's really quite good, they have the best fish, and yes, my name is Havelock. Havelock Finnabar."
Havelock Finnabar who clearly was not paying attention to where he was going, as the next moment he walked into a tree.

Havelock Finnabar. Right. Azra'iel was sure he has worked with the other Knight before, but nothing specific was jumping to mind.
"I have not been there in recent memory, though perhaps on the way back to Lumena we will have time to detour..."
Azra'iel had turned, hearing strange struggles within the vegetation around them...only to see his current partner untangling himself from a vine and then proceeding to walk into a tree while straightening himself from the vine encounter.
Unsure how to react for a moment, had anyone been paying attention, they would have been treated to the extraordinarily rare sight of Azra'iel Einar speechless, mouth agape, and completely unguarded. The supposed 'witch eater' they had been sent to track could have come bearing down on them screaming and Azra'iel would not sense it until the creature was about to attack his person.
"Finnabar. Are you..." trailing off, Azra'iel sighed and brought a hand up to massage his temples. He got the distinct feeling this was not an uncommon occurrence for the other man.
It would be a long mission.
