User Image Ever since he had left her life had changed drastically. She had become a woman unable to be swayed by gentle words or passionate eyes. He had created a hole within her heart, a heart he had once patched up. A heart he had once keep safe and healed with careful hands and smooth words. His disappearance had only hardened her heart, reminding her once again of why she hated love and anything it had to offer. Reminding her that she was not meant to be in love, ever, and she was not ever to have a blood family.

This was fine, though. In a way it was a relief. She no longer needed to wish or dream and want. She had Yasashii, that was the family she needed. Gone were the silly dreams of loving another and feeling adored completely. As a younger woman she had dreamed of finding her other half. Now mature and experienced she knew her other half was a myth. She did not have one. She believed this firmly. She was not born with a soulmate. No. She was born alone, just like her first mate had left her to be. Alone.

Yet, even so Amy waited. She waited right here, by the river her and Iah recently spoke at. For who? Karoko. He had wished to speak and she was humoring the male for now. She didn't want to meet him here..... For some reason it caused her spine to twitch when she imagined the male touching a place Iah and her used. Iah. Her ears flipped back at his name, blind eyes twitching. What was it about his name that caused her chest to twitch and tail to flick gently? Why did she find herself using it more and thinking of his calming presence? He was merely a member of Yasashii with her and a good friend.... Nothing more. Someone close to her. Someone she didn't want Karoko to meet. This was their place, bringing Karoko only caused Amy to shudder in repulsion. She didn't want Karoko to ruin this place, too.

But, she didn't want him to come to Yasashii. She knew Tenma would come over and growl. Tenma was an extremely close friend of hers and he was not a fan of Karoko's behavior. Kithara, the respected Elder, would also trot over and give Karoko a seemingly sweet but laced with a mafia toned lecture. The Elder was so sweet and gentle, yet protective of her people. Extremely so. Karoko had already been watched due to him having no intention of joining Yasashii to be with Amy. His disappearance and effect on Amy had only added to Kithara's reasons to dislike him. No, Amy wanted to avoid a scene.

However, she wasn't willing to meet him where they met. Bad memories surfaced whenever she returned to their meeting place. She couldn't see him there, not after this long time and long separation. It'd only stab at her hardened heart more than she ever needed. She wasn't a masochist. So, she brought him to her safe place. The river. Iah's river. Her river. Safety from both Karoko's image and being.

Why was she even meeting him? She was too nice to say no. She couldn't deny a begging man. It wasn't because of any scrap of remorse towards their split, it was pity. It was now her turn to be the strong one, but this time she wouldn't fall back into his clever words and sweet hands.

User Image Karoko was terrified.

He hadn't seen her in so long. Not since his initial return. Not since he was sent scurrying back into the city like a sad puppy, heart broken and ego shattered. He blamed himself for the pain, though. It wasn't her fault. He could never blame her, never. Not for anything in this entire world. She hadn't abandoned. She hadn't been gone for such a long time. He had just hoped... Maybe... Possibly that he could have been forgiven.

Maybe that was why he practically pleaded to see her again. At first, the blind woman had dismissed him, claiming she was busy. Busy? She was a Carer and Yasashii had no children. Her job was to babysit and raise, but there was nothing to do that with. He had known she was running but somehow managed to persuade her to meet him at a later time under her own terms. That was today. Today was the date he'd finally see her again.

He didn't know how he felt about her. He once loved her, now he regretted everything. Regretted not returning to her. Regretted perhaps even courting her. If she hadn't grown attached she wouldn't have broken when he vanished for so long. She wouldn't be this cold woman who thought nothing of love. Maybe she'd still be sad but.... She was beautiful and sweet. Someone else would have loved her.... Someone else could have saved her. Someone better. Someone who wasn't Karoko.

He felt ashamed. Felt disgusted with himself and broken. He had made so many promises and broke every single one. She was gracious enough to see him again, this he admitted. He was lucky, and maybe he could.... Could what? Fix things? Win her back? What? What was it he even wanted? To no longer feel guilty? No. He would never stop feeling guilty. Ever. No matter what changed between them or what didn't. He could never fix the memory of what he had done. He could never forgive himself.

But maybe he could start with getting Amy to forgive him.

He was late. He did not know her home and he did not know where her river was. Why the river? Why not their special spot? Was this another hint he was not needed or wanted? No. He needed to stop pitying himself. He was not the victim.

Silver flashed within the greenery and he froze. He knew that color by heart. Immediately he made his way towards the color, his piercings clicking together as he moved. Leaping over a few roots and skidding down a hill, the man spotted the silver again and once more froze, breath halting and heart skipping. Fear flickered within his stomach, the silver jerking to the side as its owner seemed to realize he was there.

Purple eyes met blind yet beautiful silver ones. Her eyes didn't meet him on their own, he had to move slightly to have his lock hers. He didn't know why he always maintained eye contact with her when she couldn't even tell he was doing so. He just... Did. His voice didn't come out, he almost considered fleeing again. But no. He stayed still. Waiting.

She heard him long before his feet crashed through the forest. Her ears were better than most, as well as all her other senses minus sight. He went still and she simply waited with him, wondering if he truly thought she didn't know he was there or was simply thinking. She wasn't a fan of this game, though, tail flicking impatiently.

"Karoko." She mused, rising and approaching his scent. "If you wish to be quiet then I can return home. I didn't come here to be stared at." Her voice dropped, quiet and almost a whisper. She was frightened as well. His scent terrified her, reminding her of the warmth of his skin and how strong his chest was. He was not a big man but he was fit. She could remember more than one occasion when she'd curl up beside him in hopes of feeling protected at night. Now? She was repulsed. Frightened. Afraid to get too close. She was close to running away. She was almost trembling, in fact. Karoko was a reminder of who she had been and all the pain that followed after he abandoned her as well as the pain he had briefly healed.

She didn't want to see him! Well, she couldn't, but she didn't want to be anywhere near him! He was her past, not her future. He was her timid side. He was who she was. He was the Amy who was weak and so eager to love and be loved. She didn't want to confront both him and herself.

She wished she had just not come.

She approached and sent a shiver down his spine, both in awe and fright. She moved differently. Before, she would have timidly approached with her ears down and tail low. Perhaps even unsure if she was stepping properly. Now? She seemed confident. She didn't act blind. She almost fooled him for a second and would have had he not known her previously.

Her voice was first firm and then a whisper, a reminder of how her voice sounded when he properly knew her. He could only stare at first, scared to open his mouth. What if he said the wrong thing? What if she just left?

"A-Amy." He began, speaking just to make her stay. He didn't continue, unsure how. Instead he stared at the woman, feet shuffling and teeth chewing on his bottom lip. Finally, he mustered some courage and spoke. "I'm sorry. I didn't know how to greet you." His eyes rose, having lowered when he first spoke, and mentally cursed himself for not offering her more as a response.

Bringing himself up and straightening his spine, the male viewed her silver eyes and sighed gently. Why? Why had he done this? Why had he abandoned the beautiful and sweet woman before him? Ugh. If only he could turn back time. How he wished he could.

"How are you?" He questioned lowly, viewing her form. She seemed slim, but she always had. She wasn't malnourished and she wasn't overfed. He noticed, on second glance, the arm that had sported his bracelet was now bare.... She had finally removed it.

Amy hadn't quite appreciated his stutter, flicking her tail in mild annoyance. Why was he stuttering? What right did he have to be so nervous? No. She needed to stop and breathe, she was becoming irrational. Taking in a quiet breath, Amy listened to the rest of his words, grimacing briefly at the last question.

How had she been? How could she answer that? Hurt? Unable to trust? Or did he mean other than their history? Was he expecting her life to be dandelions and rainbows or....?

"Yasashii's members are receiving their tattoos." She suddenly blurted, lowering her head to show her eye marking. "Tenma is constantly vanishing to be with Champagne. Kithara and Nitya seem to be speaking about a trip. We have received two guardians, even." She paused, ears flicking and head rising gently. "What of you?"

Did she care about his story? In a way, yes. A part of her, the old Amy, wanted him happy. Another part tried to play it off as if it didn't matter. Even if their past was tense and off she couldn't wish ill upon Karoko, or really anyone. No matter how much they betrayed her or harmed her. It just wasn't in her nature.

She wasn't answering him. This was new. If asked before she would have told him how she personally was doing and how she felt. Now? She was dodging the question, instead choosing to speak of her beloved tribe and how they were. Karoko stared at the smaller woman, quiet. She had blocked him. He was not welcomed into her thoughts, was he? She was not letting him into her personal life. It stung worse than the fact she removed the bracelet. It was official. He was an intruder.

"I meant how are you?" He tried again, voice raising at the end. He felt desperate almost, desiring nothing more than to get closer to her. This wasn't right. They had been so close, so inseparable. She had been his other half! They had been so open to one another! Why? Why had he thrown it away? He never even meant to in the first place! No. She couldn't block him out. He couldn't let her. She was Amy. The woman with a soft smile and gentle scent. The woman so soft spoken and so timid yet strong in her own unique way. The woman who rescued him from a gang of men by displaying a style of blind fighting that was as beautiful as it was deadly. She was different, unique, special, and god dammit why were they like this now? Why was he suddenly a stranger? Why had time progressed and taken him away from her heart? Why?!

"I'm," He stopped, needing to collect himself before continuing. He was panicking, he needed to carefully hold his tone or else she'd hear it with those alert ears of hers.

"I'm good." Lies. He wasn't good. "Painting here and there." Lies again! He no longer painted, his muse long dead. "I've met a few people." The first truth, but... They weren't Amy. He wasn't able to smile as easily anymore. He couldn't be happy anymore. Guilt tainted his entire life and being. He couldn't stop himself from suffering from its heavy weight.

Stop. He needed to stop and focus. His eyes laid upon hers and finally noticed her new tattoo. Her only tattoo. He stared, shocked by the fact she was so daring to have it around her eye! It was pretty, fitting her perfectly. "Your tattoo suits you." He whispered, a faint smile touching his face.

He only hoped she smiled back.

Amy froze, ears suddenly flicking back as her shoulders raised. She didn't want to answer him. She didn't want to tell him anything. She didn't want to tell anyone anything. Especially Karoko. Her eyes twitched briefly, nails exposing and digging into the earth. He wasn't allowed. He wasn't trusted anymore. Karoko was just a stranger now. He wasn't even allowed to scrape across her emotions. However, she paused in thought. Maybe.... He could be allowed to know one thing.

"I've made a good friend." She spoke up, voice soft but slightly lighter, as if this was good news and comforted her. "Iah. He was - has been in my tribe since the beginning. We've recently bonded. He's my friend." Her friend. She didn't make friends easily anymore but those from Yasashii were special. Iah. The name brought a slight smile to her lips, a rare sight. He was comfort. He was strong. Iah was.... Iah. She couldn't stop herself from smiling at his name. It was instantaneous and immediately wiped from her face when she realized she had done it.

She sensed Karoko's lies, head tilting but not calling him out. Her mouth tightened, ears flicking and nails digging deeper. He was lying to her. Why? Why was he lying to her already? She couldn't trust him! She knew it. He was now lying to her.... But... Why? She hadn't lied to him. Perhaps she had danced around a question but she hadn't lied...
