While keeping the same tastes for sweet and sugary delights that he had always enjoyed, he gained this new enjoyment out of watching the pain in others. A horror movie would be a comedy to this child. Watching a head bounce off cement and then roll away would pull a reaction from him similar to what a Comedy Central Roast does to its live audience.
Julian, although insane, tends to be obnoxiously cheerful and is always happy about things, even though he is stuck in an apocalyptic nightmare. He can be seen skipping around the blood-soaked hallways of the school or practicing soccer with the head of a zombie during his down time. Some would consider this disturbed child lucky. He cannot experience the unpleasantness of the nightmare that all of its inhabitants must survive in.
Julian may be a child, but that doesn't make him helpless. Actually, his insanity makes him stronger than most. A regular human, new to the horrors of Elmare, would most likely be reclined to rip apart the zombies that plague certain areas and would run away from the demonic beasts. They had risen in power over many generations and had achieved great power. With all of the protection and support of such a powerful family, the children of the Masons were projected to have a long, successful life. Julian was the last to be born of the Mason children. He had three older sister and one older brother. His eldest sibling was his sister, Eliza Mason. She was seven years older than he. The rest of his siblings were only three to four years older. Eliza took care of her siblings more than her parents ever could so Julian grew up mostly knowing Eliza as a mother figure.
At age seven, Julian didn't even really know his own parents. They handled the affairs of the family business and gave no attention to their own children. All of the kids were being schooled in business except for Eliza and Julian. Eliza had refused to take up the family business and would not become like her parents. Julian's attachment to his sister led him to following her.
At eleven nine, Julian met the greatest of the greatest tragedies to ever befall him. His mother and father, head of the Mason family, disowned Eliza and banished her from their home for disobedience and impudence to running the family business. Eliza was forced to leave and was killed a day later when her train was derailed. When Julian received word that night, he railed on with nothing but rage. His anger could not be calmed at this point. He burst into his parents' quarters and screamed at them. He shouted that everything was their fault and that Eliza's blood was on their hands. He vowed that he would never respect them in any way and even wished that they would die. That night, Julian's wish would come true.
Julian awoke that night to see his other sisters and his brother on the ground of their room with their throats slit open, their limbs severed, and eviscerated. Julian was witnessing pure horror. He fell from his bed and rushed out of his room to where his parents' quarters were. He could hear a strange, roaring sound emanating from the doors. He went to grab the door knob, but it was scalding hot. He tackled the door and busted right through On the other side was a raging fire that was destroying everything. It had even weakened the door enough for Julian to bust through it. Inside this room, he saw his parents screaming in pain and for help as they slowly perished in the flames.
Julian would be found outside of his burning mansion later that night. He was on the large steps in front of the entrance just rocking back in forth and mumbling words to himself. Paramedics wrapped him in a blanket and rushed him to the hospital. They took care of him there for a while until he was summoned to a court hearing. Apparently he was to be questioned about the murder of his parents as the main suspect.
Julian arrived at the hearing a week later, still incredibly traumatized. A servant from the household was at the stand giving his story of how he saw what happened. He saw Julian screaming at his parents and stated what was said. After that, he went in to check on Julian when he was in bed. As he had opened the door, he saw a figure of a female in dress in the room. It was someone that he had never seen before. She had seemed almost unreal, yet real at the same time. She vanished almost as suddenly as she had been discovered, too. And, as he was running away from the mansion during the fire, he had seen her again up in a window of the Mason's master quarters. After the hearing, Julian was declared guilty of conspiring the murder of his parents. He was incarcerated in a mental institution for the next few years.
Eight months after Julian turned fourteen years old, he had completed snapped and lost his sanity. It was planned that, after a month or two, they would have to put him to death. His case was hopeless and their was no possible way that he'd ever be capable of functioning the same way he once had. After hearing the news, Julian just smiled and accepted it. He didn't care about bad news anymore. Instead, he just laughed it off. He couldn't understand pain or worry any longer. That night, as he laid down to sleep, Julian would awake in the room of all white. He was entering the world of Elmare now. His mind would remain in that world and his body could be killed off in the real world. It wouldn't matter to him what happened. He was going to be free once he entered Elmare and he was just going to go with it.
