~Kingdom: Makai; Location: Woodfall~

User Image Castalia smiled as she tucked away the last of the herbs she needed into her satchel. After all, it was getting late; and she'd spent most of her day traipsing about, watching birds flit through the canopy. Occasionally she had stopped to practice her new-found abilities by pulling a little drink of water up from the ground for herself, but, uh... She hadn't thought about how much it would taste like dirt and after the first sip had decided that, while practice was good, she'd really be better off just drinking from the oilskin of tea she'd brought with her. Needless to say she had ended up burning up quite a bit of time, and when the forest had started to dim she had almost been worried she wouldn't have enough time to gather everything...

But now that that was taken care of, she started back towards Woodfall. She would have loved to linger, but... It was never a good idea to stray too far from the town at night. Maybe someday, but right now she doubted that she would be ready in the event that she was caught unawares by one of the more sinister denizens said to lurk in the heart of the wood.

She managed back just as the watch began to light the extra torches and lanterns for the night. For once, Castalia used the main entrance to the village of the trees; she normally took a more direct ramp up the tree her own house was in, but from where she was she would have had to go around to the other side of Woodfall... She waved to the watch as she passed, and felt a little disappointment when they didn't acknowledge it but wasn't particularly surprised. After all, the only other residents who knew her face and really saw her beyond festivals were those who lived by the house she lived in with Grandmother... Or maybe it was just that those on the watch didn't care about greeting some random girl they'd maybe seen once or twice but never met. That too.

Suddenly noticing how much darker it had become, Castalia paused and looked back towards the gate. She'd come just in the nick of time that she'd easily be able to get home before she made her guardian fret and worry too much; and that she even had time to get home at her own pace, so surely stopping to 'smell the roses' wouldn't do much harm if she didn't take too long. After all, the forest outside Woodfall was supposed to be so pretty at night, and she supposed the sky was, too- it was a shame she never really got to see either of them...

Cedar hadn't gone back to Woodfall in a long time. After her parents death she had gone hoping to find answers but she was angry and young... No one would have told her anything. Even she wouldn't have told herself anything. The magic that was surging through her body when she was there... Emotions with her could be a very strong anchor, and at such a young age she could have probably burnt herself out.

The sun was setting and she listened to how everything changed. The breeze died down as if it was getting ready for bed and the voices grew soft. They would alert her to any dangers which was the only reason she trekked through the forest when the sunset. Through the trees the autumn hued eyes girl was able to see the torches and lanterns of the village.

"Home sweet home..."
She said softly. She felt strange about coming back, it was a good and bad feeling. Bad in the sense that she felt like she had missed out on something. Learning to use her magic in the right way. But good because this was her true home. She only wished that Lea could have come with her to see it, but he was busy he said.

As she walked through the main entrance she drew the looks of a few people. It felt like nothing had really changed here. "Evening~" She chided to a couple of the watch.

Castalia looked out through the entrance that was, to her, a small window into the outside world for a few moments that seemed to stretch on until time no longer had any meaning; though the rest of the village moved on around her. The few that took notice of her passed her by; thinking that she was just waiting on someone or something, or not willing to say anything to her. Eventually that little voice at the back of her mind told her that she really did need to go, and she shook her head as if to shake the almost trance-like state that she had fallen into. She really should be getting home, what was she doing! She'd lose what family she had left to heart attack if she wasn't careful.

She had begun to turn back when a brunette witch walked in through the main entrance. Castalia looked at her from where she stood and blinked, surprised that she was not the last one in for the night. After all, most were successfully deterred from travelling through the wood at night by the tales of what wandered the Thornwood after the sun set...

Surely, then, someone willing to brave it must be some kind of adventurer or a witch with very strong magic! Immediately Castalia forgot about her sudden urgency to get home and approached the witch just as she walked through the entrance and greeted the watch; ducking and weaving around the trickling stream of people as they passed in a way that was probably more than necessary... And yet in her excitement, she couldn't help it.

"Hello! I haven't seen you before, are you from Woodfall?" ... Well, it wasn't exactly what she had wanted to ask, but she supposed that was a good place to start.

Cedar glanced around, there seemed to be more people living here then she remembered when she was younger. It was bound to happen. People were starting to have families again, but it seemed odd to her. This wasn't suppose to be like Clarus Arbor, there was something special about Woodfall, something special about her, right?

But before she even had time to get her bearings to find her old home, with so many new people, new homes were built into the trees. Cedar was suddenly approached by a young girl. Her hued eyes watched her for a moment before she gave a sudden start. The girl was talking to her!

"Oh dear~ I'm sorry. I was just a little overwhelmed. I am, well, I guess I should I was born here and lived here for a time before my family left..." Or possibly chased away.

"It's nice to be back here. Home is always home no matter what." She smiled at her. "I take it, not to many travel here by your reaction?"

Castalia almost became a little nervous as the girl didn't seem to even notice her. Did she want to be left alone...? She could just say so- Ah, she just spaced out. Castalia could understand that, she did that quite a bit herself...

"It's fine. Your family left...?" Castalia couldn't help but be a little surprised. Woodfall was a fairly stagnant village, as far as she was aware; people rarely moved in or out. Sure, it wasn't unheard of for people to come and go on trips, especially during holidays, but... She usually didn't really see all that many people she didn't know, and she didn't know anyone who had permanently moved out.

She hummed her approval of the statement that 'home is always home', as while it was true that she would jump at the opportunity to see the world, she couldn't imagine calling anywhere other than Woodfall and the Thornwood her home. "No, not very many at all as far as I know. Though, I normally don't pass by this entrance, so... Hmm." She paused a moment in thought. "I'm Castalia, by the way!"

Cedar nodded at the other girl some. "That's what I figured." She commented on the people not usually leaving. Which then meant that his old home would still be there. "My name is Cedar, it's very nice to meet you." As the sun finally set, the village lit up magically, the glow of light coming from the homes and street lamps. The air had changed when the night fell. It seemed quieter, but homey all at the same time. Must have been a wonderful place to really grow up here. She had to wonder what her magic could have been like had she stayed here.

Glancing around Cedar then let her eyes fall back onto the girl. "So, can you point me in the direction of some food? It's been a long day coming all the way out here from Clarus Arbor. I was didn't plan for this trip to well." She laughed softly but her stomach growled. With some food she would feel a bit happier and have more energy. But come to think of it, did they have restaurant in a place like this? They must have...

"Do you live here with your parents?"

Castalia didn't really know what to make of Cedar's response, and thus chose not to comment and go right into the rest of the usual greeting formalities. "It's nice to meet you, too!", she responded with a smile before looking up and around at their surroundings. She was vaguely familiar with this section of Woodfall, mostly meaning that she knew how to get home, but she rarely came through it... She just hoped that Cedar wouldn't need directions anywhere.

Food? Castalia brightened for a moment, that she could do! "Oh, yes! There's this wonderful little bakery just a few blocks away..." Her voice trailed off as she came to a sudden realization. "They probably aren't open this late, but I wouldn't mind showing you the way if you'd like to give it a try." She'd come from Clarus Arbor...?! Castalia made a mental note to ask her about it when the opportunity arose.

The next question really did give her pause, though; and while she was somewhat used to it and it really didn't bother her that much it did quiet her down a little. "No, just with my grandmother."

Cedar tilted her head some. A bakery huh? She grinned and gave a quick nod. "Castalia that sounds great. I'm sure with enough persuasion they'll keep it open late." She moved her arm to offer the other girl to take the lead. But it was at that time that the girl answered that she lived with her grandmother. Cedar didn't really make to much comment on it. Who knows when it happened or how. But Cedar had been there and she knew how awkward it was for her. So she tended to just ignore it.

"Grandmother?" However the older woman could possibly know about that time all those years ago. But no matter how much she wanted answers she didn't want to be rude to the first person she's talked to since coming home.

"Do they have chocolate filled croissants? I've been craving one for weeks." She glanced at the girl again to make sure she wasn't crying or upset. She would have felt awful.
