How to Play Keystone
Overview
In each round of Keystone, you will be betting on the roll of three dice, placing your chips on a board as you would in craps or roulette to match the number on the board with the roll of the dice. One game of Keystone can last for several rounds, with an average game lasting around eight rounds.
Arch Stones
At the beginning of each game, an Arch of 16 stones is arranged above the layout of the board. There is one stone for each possible roll of the dice (3-18 going left to right). As the game proceeds, the Arch stones will be removed one by one. For example, if you roll an 11, the stone above the 11 position on the board will be removed from the arch.
Arch Stones, Part 2
If the same number is rolled again, a lower Arch stone is removed. "Lower" means that the stone is physically lower on the arch; the number would be smaller on the left side or larger on the right side. So, for example, if you rolled another 11 after your first one, the "12" Arch stone would be removed, because it is physically lower on the board than the 11 one was.
Once both the 3 and 18 Arch stones or, in this case, the 10 and 11 Arch stones are removed, the game ends.
Arch Collapse
The game ends with the Arch "collapses." This happens if either one of the "Base" stones (either 3 or 1 cool is removed, or if both the "Keystones" (the 10 and 11) are removed. In our example, if you rolled a 10 after you had already rolled an 11, the Arch would collapse and the game would end.
Arch Bets
An "Arch bet" is a wager placed on one of the Arch stones. With this wager, you are betting that a particular stone will be removed before the game ends. Arch bets can only be placed at the beginning of the game, and you must make at least one in order to start.
Inside Bets
The rest of the table contains single-round wagering spaces, also called "inside bets." Different wagers have different odds, such as 8:5 that the dice will roll a number between 4 and 9, or between 12 and 17. In each case, the number on the right side shows how much you must bet, and the number on the left shows how much additional gold you will win if your wager is successful. At any time you can hold the Left Trigger to see an overly that shows the odds of each wager.
Inside Bets, Part 2
The second number in each odds value tells you the minimum bet for that space. You must always bet in multiples of the minimum bet. Some spaces allow you to bet on a combination of rolls: "Trips" means three of a kind, "Pair" means any two of a kind, and "Run" means a sequence, such as 2-3-4. "Keystone" is a bet on 10 and 11 together. Just remember that while Arch bets last the whole game, inside bets are good for only one roll at a time.
Collecting Wins
Inside bets are cleared or paid immediately after each round, because they are one-round bets. Your Arch bets, however, remain until they win, or until the end of the game.
Jackpot Keystone
On some tables, there is a special Jackpot rule. If the first roll of the game is a 3 or 18, then all Arch bets win! After the first roll, 3 and 18 still end the game, but they won't cause a Jackpot. In a Jackpot game, all inside bets pay out normally, including bets on the first roll.
