Personality: Derek is serious by nature, and people that don't take things seriously can sometimes frustrate him. However, he usually doesn't let on when he dislikes or is annoyed by someone. However, he will state his opinion, no matter how blunt. Having spent much of his life in the military, he values professionalism and precision. In addition, things that are bizarre or strange can confuse and concern him since he's not used to much of the world outside his well-regulated one.
Biography: During the early days of the Anubis Portal Corporation, some of the nations at first resisted the introduction of super-science and the uniting of the various floating continents, preferring instead to try and overthrow Anubis Corp. by force. Derek was in the military of one such nation. Although Anubis Corporation didn't actively retaliate with an all-out war, their super-science division developed weapons for their private security forces and managed to overthrow or subdue the resistant nations through several decisive battles in which their super-science technology showed a clear and total superiority over the technology of the day. Fortunately, Anubis Corporation wasn't in the business of conquest and occupation, so they allowed the nations to continue to govern themselves if they simply accepted the new technology and allowed Anubis to have corporate branches in their countries. Realizing that the old ways were over, the nations accepted and were brought into the fold.
Having served in three of these battles, Derek witnessed his nation's forces defeated again and again. Though he lost friends in the battles and came close to death himself several times, he doesn't hold a grudge against Anubis Corp. As far as he was concerned, he simply did his duty to his country. Anubis Corp won, they lost, and the two sides reached a deal. That was the end of it. He accepts super-science as the new future, never having had a personal problem with it in the first place. After the brief conflict he retired from the military and now works as somewhat of a private bodyguard, taking odd-jobs where they are offered. He still keeps his military discipline and outlook on life, however and this sometimes comes into conflict with the new ways of the world.

Magic/Super Science:
1. Skeletal wiring: One of the standard procedures undergone by the soldiers of Derek's nation is to be implanted with long, thing wiring running through the middle of their bones, connecting them all together. This wiring is filled with nano-tubes that can relay information straight to and from the central cortex. As a result, Derek is still able to use limbs even if the muscles are damaged or the tendons are cut. He can continue to operate his limbs even if they are burned straight down to the skeleton. This doesn't protect him from blood loss and doesn't apply to his organs which still can't function if they're damaged.
2. Spinal Chord neuro-weave: Tiny, nano-tube filled fibers have been woven into Derek's spinal column, optical nerves and cerebral cortex. This wiring allows information to be received, processed by and transmitted from the brain at twice the normal human rate. As a result, Derek's hand-eye coordination and reaction time is much better than a normal human's.
3. Piston-fused muscles: Several tiny pistons have been implanted into Derek's muscular system. Specifically into his arms and legs. As a result, Derek can hit much harder and run much faster and jump much higher than a normal human.
4. .50 Cal Magnum: Derek always carries with him a large, .50 caliber revolver. While firing this would break a normal human's arm, Derek's cybernetic enhancements allow him to fire it like a human could a normal firearm. These large caliber bullets hit hard and deal much higher damage than a normal firearm.
5. Cyber Contacts: Derek has had micro-thin contacts implanted just under the corneas of his eyes, giving him 20/10 vision in both night and daytime. This also gives him thermal vision and makes him immune to being blinded by sudden flashes of light such as flashbangs.
Strengths:
-Calm under fire, able to assess situations analytically and is unaffected by threats, taunts or insults.
-Highly trained in small-arms and hand-to-hand combat
-Cybernetically enhanced in much of his body, giving him more strength and stamina in combat.
Weakness:
-Slow to adapt to new super-science and abilities, he is generally unfamiliar with new techniques and abilities, taking time to understand and find a way to counter them. This doesn't include basic super-science that's been around for a while, including technology that he uses himself.
-Electro-magnetic weapons can disable his implants if they are detonated close enough
-Often takes things at face-value and is often too trusting.
