Blackbird was sitting out on a dusty part of the downs, his black coat warming him fairly quickly in the morning sunlight, especially if he fluffed himself up just right. He was quite aware he was sitting just outside a burrow entrance but he didn't rightly care right at that moment as he closed his eyes, enjoying the sun on his back for a change. He was glad it wasn't TOO warm right now, that's where his black coat was uncomfortable and made him more grumpy that he usually appeared.

Bubo had been snoring blissfully inside his burrow. It was a retirement burrow. He was useless to the warren, though he hated to admit that. He used to be an owsla officer in his youth, mates leaping left and right to breed with him. But his mates had all left him, either moved on to other mates or moved on to the black rabbit's warren. He was waiting, his bones old and his joints stiff. But he still had the spirit of an owsla. He slid up to the entrance of his den after a rude awakening. His burrow was suddenly too dark, the blissful warmth of the sun no longer sneaking in. He peered out angrily, staring at the intruder. He charged, trying to clamp on Blackbird's tail. "OI OI OI! CLEAR OFF! THIS IS MY SETT! SHOVE OUT!"

Blackbird wasn't prepared for the surprise of a collision and the feel teeth clamping onto his scut, especially when said teeth caught the bony part that made up his tail, he leapt up, thudding his hind legs in warning and turned to face his attacker. "What do you think yo're doing old one, it's not just YOUR burrow.. it's everyone's ... i'd be stupid not to snooze near an escape route... " he rolled his eyes at the ranting old buck.

"AH?! WHA?! Y-YOUR BURROW?! I DUG THIS BURROW OUT ME'SELF! WITH MY OWN FOUR FEET! I DUG IT AWAY FROM THE MAIN ONE TO GET AWAY FROM YEH...YEH HRAKA-HEADS!" He spat viciously, after releasing the tail, fur dropping from his mouth. "I raised a bounty of babies in this hole and yer gettin' your mucky scent all over it! I AIN'T ASKING TWICE, YE' BRAT! CLEAR OFF!" He stomped with all four feet like a tantruming child, smacking his lips to reveal his teeth were chipped, cracked, bucked and some were even missing in the back. "AND DON'TCHE DARE CALL ME OLD! BUBO, YOU WEASLY LITTLE KITTEN! DON'TCHE FORGET IT!"

"Frith's sake your breath is rotten" grumped Blackbird when the other bared his teeth, "I don't care about what used to be, there's plenty of other burrows close to this one" he rolled his eyes again and ground his own teeth in annoyance, as well as raking up a little earth under his claws on his forepaws "Stop shouting at me, i'm not the one that's half deaf" he snapped. "I'm old enough to kick the scut off someone like you ... this yourself lucky my Marli taught me not to hurt the old ones"

Bubo didn't care about his bad breath or the neighbours. He had protected some of these burrows in his youth and he'd do it again now, his old matted fur puffing out. "I ain't deaf and I ain't old! Come on then, runt!" He bounded to the side and then stopped, shaking, a loud crack proof that his back was acting up after such a rushed move like that. "Dang back." He fell onto his side, Blackbird seemingly forgotten.

Blackbird dug his claws in, ready to leap up or claw at the other buck as the old one puffed up his matted fur. He wasn't expecting the rather painful sounding crack and the sudden stop of the old rabbit's rush. "Hey... oldster.." he shuffled just a teeny bit closer, worry on his face just a little bit "oldster, are you alright?" A good scrap was one thing but he didn't really want the older male HURT, after all, they looked out for each other at Watership, it was how the whole warren stayed together mostly.

Bubo slowly shuffled backwards and lifted his tail until he was bowing. "Ah...there we go." He glared at the youngster, a bit of the hardness fading. He was a bit taken aback at the other's concern for something as silly as his back being thrown out. "Yeh, I'll be okay. Do me a favor and just put your paws between my hind quarters and press down, alright?" It was more of a demand than a polite question.
He hated being looked at as weak, especially infront of the younger bucks. "I moved at you too fast. You'd be dead if it weren't for this stupid back."

Blackbird frowned ever so slightly, hoping the buck didn't catch it. He was curious but he put his forepaws where instructed and leaned gently. "Yeah yeah, and i'm The Black Rabbit" he muttered.
Silly old bucks shouldn't even try and pretend they were as spry as the young bucks... sure.. Blackbird didn't have any does... not yet, and he hadn't REALLY proven himself to be anything other than a grump but that didn't mean any old buck could come along and try and thrash him. "if it wasn't for your back ... you'd be laid on it" he murmured more to himself than to the old one, and in a definite amused tone rather than an angry one.
