The bar was a small one, but a busy one - just the way a certain, off-duty professor liked it to be. When it was bigger, it tended to attract the worst sort of people - loud, rambunctious, obnoxious, people who drank until they were slobbering drunk. It was embarrassing.

Smaller bars, however, tended to be occupied by similar people to himself, people who just wanted to swing by after work for a few swigs of bourbon or ale, maybe chat a little with some of the patrons. And if you didn't feel like talking, nobody would bother you.

Exactly the way Xander Demetri preferred it to be.

On this particular occasional he was sitting at the bar instead of one of the tables like he normally did, absently swinging the little glass from the tips of his fingers. The amber liquid inside sloshed against the sides, almost running over, but he pulled the glass toward himself and took another swallow, idly setting it back down.

It had been a long time since he had been back. Several months away from this place had given him a new perspective, though he doubted it was any different than when he had left it. But leaving - taking some time to himself, that had been the best course of action. It had given him a way of calming himself, of figuring out his own path in life.

...whatever that was.

Six months later, he still felt little of the productivity he had once had. Where had his ambition even gone? It angered him, frustrated him, and Xander took a heavy swallow of the bourbon, sighing with the glass against his lips.

One day it would be enough, but today was not that day.

"Y'better not let me catch you incapable of working tomorrow!"

A small woman hollered just outside the little bar at a group of men that stumbled out it's doors. It wasn't too loud, though the threat was evident in her tone. Oh she was going to run those boys hard if they so much as had a hangover!

Sauntering into the bar, Natasha Sarvorius walked straight towards the bar. She was a familiar face in this small place, having found she quite enjoyed the less crowded nature of the larger bars. Or rather, less bar fights full of some-teen plus people. Damn she was tired of having to break those fights up. Just because she was the leader of the Cerbs didn't mean she had to be the one in charge of crowd control.

Nori all but flopped into a seat at the bar in a very unladylike manner. "The usual. Please." She muttered, giving one guy a impressive scowl at the way he gaped at her eyepatch. Clearly he was knew to this bar. And inching towards her first victim of the night at this rate. Not that she was notorious for bar fights herself.

"Keep starin' and I might do a trick." She grumbled and graciously threw back the glass of whiskey that was placed before her. And beside that, a glass of red wine. Her favorite.

And then she noticed in the reflection of her cup that she was not alone at the bar. Or to be more exact, there was yet another new face present. Though he did look somewhat familiar. "You gonna spit anything stupid out t'night as well?" She asked the darked haired man beside her, like a feline sensing the approaching rain.

Xander didn't look up at the person who occupied the seat beside him, still lost within his own thoughts and the very tempting glass of bourbon dangling from his fingertips. It was only when he heard a snapping, disgruntled voice that he showed any signs at all of noticing her, one dark brow lifting, though he kept his gaze focused on the bartender.

At least until he realized that she was speaking to him.

Xander slanted a gaze sideways, his gaze lingering briefly on the eyepatch before a vague sort of smirk touched his lips, pressing the glass absently against his chin.

"I never 'spout' anything," he said loftily. "I'm merely here to enjoy the finer benefits of alcohol."

He held his glass out as though toasting her and took another swig.

Nori just regarded the stranger that was sort of familiar but really, she didn't give a damn. So long as he wasn't going to cause any trouble. And from the looks of him, she probably didn't have to worry much. Hell, if she were to be really freaking honest, he was kind of handsome.

She requested another glass of whiskey before she even dared touch the wine.

This time, she didn't down the whole thing quite as quickly, letting it slowly burn down her throat before she set the glass down and turned enough to see the dark haired man. "Then it appears you and I have something in common." Her lips twitched faintly, an arm moving to rest against the bar.

"Haven't seen you 'round here before." Which wasn't too much of a shock, though she made a habit of trying to recognize the usual faces. "If it's not viewed as too rude, might I ask what brought y'here?"

He sent the woman beside him a sideways glance, idly scrutinizing her without actually staring (since that would have been all sorts of awkward, and Xander Demetri did not do awkward). She looked perhaps around his own age, though all things considered, that could have been questionable. A proud face, a casual, yet strong demeanor. Someone who clearly wasn't afraid to say what she wanted.

Definitely better than the weepy, hysterical women that tended to frequent the larger bars. Xander turned his head towards her, his lips curving upwards in a small smile.

"What else?" he replied airily, and took a long, slow sip of bourbon, relishing the heat and the burn against his throat, the fiery, amber liquid both familiar and reassuring. "To drown my troubles in alcohol."

His mouth quirked up at the corners, his smile becoming a smirk.

"Why else do people drink? We drink because we can, and that's exactly what I'm doing."

Xander gave a little shrug. "Though to be fair, it's been a while. I've been away a bit, and I figured this was the best way to get reacquainted with the area."

His eyes found hers above his raised glass. "And what about you? What brings you to this lovely place?"

Her eyebrow rose slowly at the airy question, almost as if she dared this man to say something utterly stupid. His response, however, gained a smirk and a small shake of her head. "The oldest reason in the book." She mused.

She rather liked this man. There was a strong intellect about him. And he was sassy. The words popped into mind and... it fit. He was sassy. And a smart a**.

"Fair point to you." Nori said dryly, grabbing the glass of wine finally. She took a small sip of it, relishing in the taste of the dark red drink.

He'd been away for a while, had he? Nori glanced at the dark haired man over the rim of her glass. Trouble? Perhaps. Though probably not the type she would deal with. The type her Knights protected Lumena from. Majin or Witch Eater? Hmm... she didn't think so. Interesting man.

"You have unique eyes." She murmured, took a sip of her wine, and shrugged. "I needed a break. This place is conveniently located." Not many of the Royal lines came to a small place like this. Which meant she didn't have to deal with family members. And it seemed a frequent hang out for her knights. "Rather like the crowd here more." She added with a wink, gaze flickering towards the door as it opened to watch the new arrivals enter. Not any of hers.

"The names Nori," She finally decided she liked this man and held out a hand for him to shake should he choose to do so.

She was, at the very least, not flirtatious. He could take that, and he liked that. Flirty meant awkwardness, and Xander Demetri was not in the mood for any sort of flirting tonight. He'd only just gotten back, and besides, flirting was something that did not come naturally to him.

And it reminded him too much of a certain obnoxious someone who he was attempting very hard to forget because thinking about him just made him want to kick people in the face.

Xander blinked, turning his face back to her, eyebrows raised. "Yes, well," he said. "My eyes have always been something of a mystery, even to me. They are what they are, I suppose. But I rather like being somewhat different," he added, with a slight smirk.

"And you're right," Xander continued, lifting his glass and taking another swallow. "The crowd here is not too quiet, but it's not too loud either, proving to be quite pleasing."

She had offered him his hand, and Xander hesitated only a moment before taking it and shaking, a smile playing at the corners of his lips.

"Xander," he said. "My name is Xander. Or just X, should you prefer."

The knight snorted, grinning around her glass as she took another sip of wine. "Ah, I wish I could claim the same." Nori tapped at the edge of her eyepatch, but didn't elaborate on the specifics as to how it happened. "Being different makes you stand out more. And easier to find. Especially when you don't want to be found." Oh how some of the other Royals just loved pointing out how she should have been a proper lady and she'd still have her pretty looks about her.

Pompous bastards.

She glanced about the bar, a fond smile slowly curling her lips. "Aye, it truly is quite pleasing here." Nori paused. Then added, "Well. Most of the time. Every now and then those troublemakers will come and pick fights and generally stir up the rowdy folk. And then she'd have to pull rank. Get bitched at. And send notes to her Queen. And Sibelius Frost. Ugh!

Nori felt a equals sort of smile play at her lips, appreciating the firm handshake this Xander gave her. This man was no idiot and just the type she'd love to have some of her higher ranked knights be. Alas, she couldn't always get what she wanted.

"X, huh? Makes you sound quite mysterious." She chuckled, taking another sip from her glass. "So, X. What sort of work do you do?"
