J'car
Name: J'car
Age: 34
Gender: Male
Craft/Rank: Watch Wingleader
Appearance: J'car is a man who gives off the impression of being larger than he actually is. He's a bit over six foot one, but with the military posture and confident swagger that he's got, he seems even taller. And while he is broad through the shoulder, his build tends towards the lighter side: a fact that is camouflaged by the sturdy flight leathers emblazoned with Watch colors. Beneath them he is less of a brick wall and more of a potent coil of wiry muscle: lean strength rather than the solidity of a strongman. Plenty of biceps, not a lot of chiseled abs or pecs, but not much spare fat either.
His complexion is naturally a medium tan, tending to darken quickly in the Southern heat. His hair is black and buzzed-short; when he has facial hair (read: when no one forces him to be clean-shaven) he keeps it similarly short and trim. His eyes are deep chocolate brown under dark brows, and he has a winning, brilliant white smile on the rare occasion that he opts to use it. A scar curves up the left side of his face, bisecting the left corner of his mouth and ending just below the cheekbone. He also has a number of tattoos on his chest and back, mostly simple abstract patterns in black ink. They were done by hand by a friend of his long ago.
Personality: J'car is... shockingly chill for a Watch bronzerider. The fact that his dragon has a shiny hide does not appear to have even occurred to him; he demands no particular level of deference from anyone, and he'll answer equally readily to "Wingleader" or "honey bear" or even "hey jackass." Those who use fancy words and deliberate courtesy towards him because of his rank or status actually seem to annoy him. If he were living on Earth, the phrase don't call me sir, I work for a living would happily be in his repertoire. This isn't to say that he doesn't demand the respect and obedience of his wingriders, but he treats them as equals and simply expects that they'll follow him because he's got a good head on his shoulders, not because they're told to.
And J'car does have a good head on his shoulders. The man is solid when it comes to hunting down criminals. There is a ferociously military hardiness and tenacity to him: he will keep going until he has no reserve of endurance left, and then he'll go another mile just to prove that he can. It is during these times when his hot temper will sometimes flare. Words don't make him angry, but incompetence, cruelty, or deliberate neglect or obstructiveness that prevents him from doing his job? Those will make him lash out, and lash out hard. This is one of the many reasons he chose C'per as a Wingsecond: C'per is calm, thoughtful, intuitive, whereas J'car has the drive, innate aggressive temperament, and the focus to close a case. C'per is the detective, J'car is the soldier, and they've made a strong team for turns.
If he has a truly dangerous quality for a Watch wingleader, it is his tendency towards insubordination. J'car does not take orders well. If he hears a bad order, he doesn't follow it. He doesn't even have the patience to quietly ignore it and go off and do his own thing. He fights it. Taking the path of least resistance does not come naturally to him: maybe this is why he was chosen to go up against Warden M'onk, an assignment that no sane and intelligent bronzerider who values their career would dare to attempt.
He's a strong believer in the "work hard play hard" mentality. When he's not actively hunting down someone in pursuit of justice, J'car is much like his dragon: a big cuddly sofa of a man. He likes kids, friendly competition, and he's a damn fine cook as well. In terms of relationships with others, he's got a kid back home, but he will cheerfully and casually flirt with anyone amenable, male or female. All it takes is a single "no" to get him to back off - J'car is not interested in anyone who is not interested in him - but being raised weyrbrat nearly from birth means he doesn't have much in the way of moral quandaries about casual friends with benefits. What happens when Tauvolanth chases a green simply doesn't impact the rest of his life.
J'car has a quirky sense of humor, one that bizarrely tends to come out most when he's in the middle of dangerous situations. He plays his emotions close to his chest; while he's quick with a laugh or a sharp word in anger, he carries fear and grief hidden deep down inside him. Fortunately, he has yet to suffer any terrible traumas, and he moves through life more or less unscarred.
Figuratively speaking, at any rate.
History:
Other stuff: He is an openly bi bronzerider in an organization that is known to strongly disapprove of such things. He is also openly polyamorous, but that's a bit more common for dragonriders, what with Flights being a thing.
Tauvolanth
Name: Tauvolanth
Color: Bronze
Age: 7
Appearance:
Personality: Tauvolanth is very like a bear. He would like nothing more than to be left to his own devices, napping most of the time and occasionally waking up to lumber off to find something to eat, then napping again.
