Hello! I'm not sure how active it is here any more, but I thought I'd stop by and say hi...
So a little about me: my name is Keakealani, or you can call me Kea. I am 23 years old and training to be a musician - I'm currently on a hiatus from school, but until recently was pursuing a BM in composition with a voice primary at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. I am currently living in Austin, TX with my lovely and wonderful fiancé who is pursuing his MM in piano performance at the University of Texas at Austin. Our family also includes a black-and-white kitty cat named Gilbert. In addition to singing and composing, other musical interests include historical musicology (with a focus on sacred choral music and early church music) and ethnomusicology (with a focus on Hawaiian choral music and choral traditions around the world). I am also a huge music theory nerd. Beyond music, I have a very amateur interest in linguistics and phonology, and a passing interest in writing (especially blogging/essaying) and editing. I copyedit and style edit for friends and family frequently. I am also involved in social justice movements, especially LGBTQ and women's movements.
But of course, why am I here, but because of veg*nism? Well, technically I'm not a vegetarian. Gasp! I would say I am what you call a partial vegetarian. I try not to eat meat and rarely have meat more than once or twice a week. I am a big proponent of healthier and more humane practices for addressing meat consumption and livestock, and while I sympathize completely with activism against animal cruelty, I also realistically know that I have a hard time keeping a nutritionally balanced lifestyle without occasionally eating meat and other animal products. But, all that being said -- I love eating veg*n food and I love sharing recipes and learning more about how to structure my diet in a less harmful way.
I may also be the minority in that I have also recently come into the Christian vegetarian movements through my fiancé who is part of a church that stresses vegetarianism and/or Levitical dietary restrictions. I would love to discuss with other people of faith how their lives are influenced by Levitical and other restrictions and how they address veg*nism in their communities of faith.
At any rate, I guess this is just my introduction, so thanks for reading and hope to talk to you soon! ^_^
