They are better together. A'stor is better with either of his other halves. He changes shape - personality - beings from one to the other.

From Watchrider and lover to best friend and confidant, A'stor knows both roles. He would never change them, not for anything.

It's why when Kr'stof says he's going to Warden's, A'stor knows that he's going too, knows that for all his "You can stay," A'stor can't.

After all, what is A'stor if they aren't together? What would he be if Kr'stof left? He doesn't want to contemplate that; he'll stick with him until the end.

They are better together - A'stor is not much without one of the others around. Kr'stof or Damith, he doesn't care which. He could never care which. With Damith, he is the confidant; he is the best friend. He is the voice that Damith searches for to see him out of the darkness, he is the voice that gives him stability and someone to be vulnerable to; Damith is the presence who accepts him. They have their moments, their concern masked by the incessant mocking and teasing that goes on between the pair, especially about their weaknesses, but it is a brotherly sense. No one else could call Damith a coward but A'stor. Not if they value living. With Kr'stof, he is the lover; he is the presence, the touch. The constant, who never changes and never wants to, the one who is there. With Kr'stof, he is not so impulsive or cruel - he is the loyal dog. He is there - he will always be there. No matter when he is left or how or what happens, he will be there.

Because they are better together. A'stor knows it in his bones, completely and thoroughly, and has for awhile. He knows it because it hurts when they're apart; it aches when Kr'stof is mad at him. Kr'stof is not A'stor's first boyfriend, not close, but he is the first that A'stor cares so thoroughly about. It scares him, how easily the thought comes to him, how easily "better together" becomes "broken, apart," but he knows it's a bit late to do anything about it now.
