Well, you have to remember why we do those things in relationships. Holding hands is for warmly comforting the other, or just letting them know you're there. Kissing is the direct expression of your intimate attraction to the other. If you have genuine feelings of attraction towards him, then the only reason it's awkward for you (or him) is because of your preconceptions of homosexuality. You have to get it right out and say it: "Okay, this feels awkward, doesn't it? Let's try to not let it feel awkward. Here, hold my hand." And let him take your hand. Then keep holding it. After a moment or two, the awkwardness will dissipate. Look him in the eyes and give him a soft kiss. Your problems will be over from there.
