.there's something different.
.there's something different.
She hadn't been able to put her finger on it until now, in fact it had only been when she had put her finger on it (literally speaking) that she realised that something was very wrong and very different about her normal self - to put it plainly, as she now stared in the mirror and prodded at her swelling abdomen; she was fat.
She gave a small whimper as she continued to poke at the swelling that otherwise seemed full of water rather than anything else and her brow creased in confusion at her lack of understanding at the situation. If she remembered correctly, humans only got like this when they were...
"Pregnant." She squeaked and then released an ear piercing shriek in her panic. She was never one for being subtle and now was hardly a situation where she could explain or react in any logical or rational way. No, in the world of Epee where everybody loved and knew her (it was a special place) the only way to express oneself was to shriek very loudly until at last somebody ran in to make sure you hadn't hurt yourself.
"What happened?" Abyss demanded, the tall figure of a man slinking through the doorframe with eyes as round as saucers.
There was a pregnant pause (no pun intended) as the man stared at the otherwise unharmed Epee who was still poking at her tummy in horror. His ears were ringing and already he was beginning to recover from the shock outburst that had rocked the entire household although the corners of his mouth did twitch as Epee turned round and pointed to her tummy.
"What happened to me?" She wailed and then screwed up her face into one of distaste at the smile creeping onto the Bishi Chu's lips. Granted he might have looked human but the black mouse ears and tail were a big giveaway in revealing that he wasn't quite as he seemed.
"I thought you knew?" He mused as he made his way forward and crossed his arms against his chest as though guarding himself from any attemptive attack that she might decide was desirable against him - alas she was a peaceful creature and thus he had little to worry about, she simply stared at him in confusion, "Well it is your body..." Now even he sounded confused as he trailed away into silence.
"Knew what?" She murmured faintly and stared down at her swollen belly again.
"That you were pregnant, everyone in the house knew...we thought you were going to explain -" He fell silent as he saw her face and furrowed his brow with concern, if she hadn't known then how in the nine hells had she gotten pregnant in the first place? With that thought in mind the reason for her panic became crystal clear.
"Ah." He murmured simply and allowed his ears to flop slightly.
"I'm not even married and I've never even done those things with a man." She pointed out, colour rising in her cheeks as she even mentioned (let alone thought) of the things that men and women did together while they were on their own and very much in love, the second bit was of course the most important part according to Abyss and a number of her other companions.
"Well then - " His frown deepened and after a few moments he directed his young mistress to the chair by her bed and calmly took a seat on the floor beside her, "What in the name of the gods did you do?" He croaked, his eyes as wide as saucers as he observed the woman and her futile attempts to rack her brain for any memories of any type of procreation - although with a memory as good as a trout's she wasn't going to get very far.
"Oh..." She murmured at last, "Oh, oh, oooooh..." She tapped at her cheek with her free hand as one rested upon her swelling tummy and shook her head as images flooded back to her of that fateful day in Durem when she had decided to test out some of her skills.
"Oh dear." She turned her gaze back towards Abyss and calmly explained the only thing that she could remember doing that could only remotely resemble procreation in any way.
What had happened, was this:
"Well it all started in Durem, I was watching all the people there and I got the oddest idea. I decided that I wanted to test out my skills because I got that really annoying 'niggling' feeling that I always get when one wants to show itself so I figured - Hey! What's the harm?
Anywho, I actually let this gift out and well, I kind of went blind and I couldn't see anything except for loads of white lights. Actually it was really cute 'cause it reminded me of a swarm of fireflies and you know how I like fire flies."
"When they're in jars, yes."
"Don't interrupt."
"So as I was saying, I went blind and I could only see the lights which I think are their souls...you know, be being able to see their deeper being and all that jazz. Either way, I could sense their warmth too so I knew they were lving beings and would you stop looking at me like that?!"
"Like what?"
"Like I have two heads."
"Sorry."
"Well, by now you've figured out that I'm blind and everyone is tiny white balls of light so you'd kinda understand why I got really curious whenever I saw a pinkish light and it was much warmer than the others. Needless to say I got nosey and went to investigate in my own unusual way - see you're nodding, you know what I mean...with the ethereal tendrils?
Either way, you know they can't be seen and so I just kinda caressed and snagged a little bit of the soul because I wanted to be able to glow pink too!
...D'ya think I might have grabbed the wrong bit?"
She fell silent again and Abyss stared at her with a mixture of fascination and horror, well, more to the point he was staring at her abdomin and appeared to be attempting to come to terms with what he had just heard come out of his own mistress' mouth.
"You raped someone?" He enquired increduously.
"I didn't do that!" Epee shrieked in a horrified manner and shook her head, "It was an accident, he got in the way and it's his fault he has a pink spirit - I'm inclined towards pretty things!" She pointed out while he shook his head.
"Do you even know who he is?"
"Well he came out of the coffee shop," She murmured slowly and pursed her lips, tapping her cheek again thoughtfully while Abyss sat back ever so slightly and raised a brow.
"You do know what you're going to have to do then." Abyss mused.
"What?"
"You're going to have to tell him." He pointed out wrily and quirked a brow.
"I'm...what?" She breathed and shook her head vigorously, "He'd kill me!"
"Well it's hardly fair that he shouldn't know that you've borrowed him to have a baby." Abyss pointed out in a perfectly serious tone causing the young woman to lose colour in her cheeks.
"Oh dear..." She repeated with a sigh.
